But, why can't I stop laughing?

2013-05-12 01:35:36 PM
Didn't this kid receive any Youtube money from all of the hits it received?

That would have probably taken the sting off some of the insults.

2013-05-12 01:45:07 PM
Hopefully he will rise up and destroy the internet.  Then we will have to send someone back in time to kill him before it happens.

"We're all worried, we're all in pain. That just comes with having eyes and having ears. But just remember one thing - it can't get any worse, it can only get better. High school is the bottom, being a teenager sucks, but that's the point, surviving it is the whole point. Quitting is not going to make you stronger, living will. So just hang on and hang in there."

You may not have enjoyed the movie it was from, but this encapsulates that entire article. Good on this kid for getting through it, earning his law degree, and hopefully getting his "revenge" by living better than those who humiliated him.

What kind of sick jackass tells a kid to kill himself over this? I'm OK with the kid getting a bit of ribbing over recording himself doing something embarrassing, but that's too much. It's like the jock at the food fight who gets a bag of apples and starts fastballing them into people's faces at point blank range. Congrats, you've just escalated this into sociopath territory and RUINED IT FOR EVERYONE FOREVER.

Oh, stop whining. That video made you an international celebrity.

Pretty much this.  Everyone needs to be able to deal with being laughed at, but mean people suck.

If I only laughed at his video and didn't urge him to suicide...should I still feel bad?

None if us is as mean as all of us

No, sounds like the bullies at his school should feel bad.

You're kidding, right? This is the internet. On this very website I've seen people tell others to kill themselves for having a different opinion on a TV show.

As someone who was bullied myself I can sympathize. The school should have done something too to the kids who did upload it. Also I get the feeling that being in law school means he might be the one who does bring down the internet.

For a moment I was thinking this was going to be about Jake Lloyd

Oh please. A lot of us were bullied in school and we turned out fine. In 8th grade other kids would tell me to kill myself. Boo freakin Hoo.

That being said, if he ever has a chance to prosecute a case involving someone who bullied him, I could look past any kind of misconduct.

2013-05-12 03:35:28 PM
Oh come on. If you get all weepy and depressed just because millions of people relentlessly mock you, call you worthless and tell you to kill yourself, then you need to suck it up, soldier.

Law student graduate =  I'm gonna sue everyone that laughed at that video, made rude comments and become a billionaire overnight  LOL.

I may have been one of the many who laughed upon seeing this the first time, but I'd go and buy the guy beer anytime

/and if he wants to play some video games, anytime man
//sad to hear his story went the way it did

Because, the suffering of others isn't funny; it's hilarious.

Most important thing he said.  Anyone know what Ellen Feiss is doing today?

Ah, high school.

Turning innocent kids into total assholes since 1867.

give it another 10-15 years. this is a Lifetime movie special in the making. always wondered why Jack McCoy was such a prick.

considering that he never posted it to youtube himself, probably not.

i'm surprised that Stewart & Colbert didn't track the kid down to give him a chance to redeem himself.

Nobody should ever tell a kid they should kill themselves. Ever. That's possibly the worst thing anybody could say. But an adult lawyer? Ehhhhhh... Hmmmm.

Maybe Disney could let him be an extra in the new movies...

Man up and deal with it. It's not like you've been drafted into the military and are ordered to go over the trenches and attack enemy machine gun nests.

You know Tosh has tried, but that would probably just make things worse.

Would it be insensitive of us to reminisce about our favorite remixes?
I've always had a soft spot for the disco version. The baffled expressions of Luke and Ben are just priceless.

Old news is so much fun! (not like the story isn't 6 months old...)

But more seriously, good on this guy for getting his degree and moving on in life. It does truly get better.

And I don't feel bad laughing. If only because I used to do the same thing as a kid, and I still think its awesome.

I don't think he was ever in danger of killing himself ... I mean, i don't think that was a real light-saber.

2013-05-12 03:44:53 PM
If the video had first appeared on today's internet, it wouldn't have appeared half as geeky as some videos out there from guys twice his age or more.

2013-05-12 03:47:58 PM
The bullying became so bad that Raza was diagnosed with depression and ended up dropping out of school and being sent to a children's psychiatric ward.

That sucks. I guess I can see it though. Being so young, and like the article says, he was pretty much the first kid to be subjected to this; if it happened today it would be a different story. And it's not like he put the video out there at all. Glad the story didn't end with him in the psych ward.

If it appeared today it wouldn't have gotten worldwide notoriety like it did. It would have been lost in the glut of other videos with people doing stuff just as nerdy. Granted this kid would have probably had a local problem because of it, but it probably wouldn't have been very noticed outside of his community.

7th Son of a 7th Son: Oh please. A lot of us were bullied in school and we turned out fine. In 8th grade other kids would tell me to kill myself. Boo freakin Hoo.

Yes, I am sure your mental status was identical to his, as were the situations of being thrown unwillingly to infamy to be taunted by millions of unknown people and the occasional suggestion from a couple of students to kill yourself. There was no seemingly concerted effort by people to get you to commit suicide or otherwise harass you. There was against him and there are against many others such as homosexual students, and there are numerous tragic consequences to those.

People telling him to commit suicide or otherwise mocking him are deliberately being assholes, which is fine; you though are trying to act as though you have some understanding of psychology, misrepresenting yourself in the process to insult. You want to insult him? Say something insulting and be done so we can know your comment has no value from the start.

Back in my day, you did a light saber dance in the privacy of your own home. And you were happy if the dog stuck around. You could get $40 for a nickel back then. Today, you can't even get a Big Gulp. Why did we fight in the great cola war anyway?
