Bye Isles, we'll be looking out for you guys next year...

It still stings, but for the first time in a while I'm excited about the not-distant future. The Isles are a good team that has cap room, highly-drafted prospects that will eventually hit the NHL and/or be used in trades, and no uncertainty in terms of where the team will be playing. shiat, we might even get a free agent to sign with us willingly!

The other great thing about these playoffs is that my fellow Isles fans came out in droves, like I knew they would once the team stopped kicking us in our collective balls. I've had to assure people for years that we exist and I think that's apparent now.

Today I am a Red Wings fan. For scheduling as much as the Blackhawks/DWR matchup, it must happen.

Go Bruins!
Go Holtbys!

This.  I want to get the chance to attend a Stanley Cup Finals game.

Here it is, game seven day.  The do or die, go big or go golfing type of battle between two teams and it's on at ..... 10PM eastern on a Sunday.  Fark you Bergman & the rest of the clowns who scheduled this.

While I certainly want my Ducks to win & move onto the second round, I'm actually ok with however this game turns out.  The Ducks are playing the Red Wings, a team that took until the final day of the regular season to make the playoffs & weren't expected to do much.  My biggest hope is that by losing to such a team (and there is nothing wrong with them being here.  Frankly with all the retirements, injuries & young players, the Red Wings deserve nothing but praise for even being here let alone taking things to a game 7) that it pisses Teemu off so much that he'll want to strap the armor & skates on for (at least?) one more season.  He's consistently shown that he can still play at an elite let alone an average NHL level.  One more good year might put him over 700 goals (675 currently) & while 1500 points would be hard, it is still within the slight realm of possibility (1430 currently).

As a fan of hockey itself, a Red Wing win today would be a nice way to put an end to their time in the Western Conference.  If they win they'll be fighting with the Blackhawks in the 2nd round.  Having another pair of original six teams battling it out this year would be fun to see.

As far as the other teams go, I'd like both the Rags & Leafs to win.  Two more game sevens would be great to watch tomorrow night.  However if Boston or Washington manage to close out their respective series I'm quite ok with either team moving on.

So all in all it should be a great day of hockey to be watched.  Too bad it isn't Father's Day so I'd KNOW that I'd have control over the tv, as of now Mrs RT is still up in the air over watching 8 hours or so of hockey.... oh well, I love her anyway even if her priorities are questionable today.  Time to go be productive for a couple of hours because I certainly won't be later.....

The thing you don't understand is that it's about ratings and the majority of the ratings would come from the eastern time zone. What you also don't seem to comprehend is that today is Sunday and sporting events are often played in the afternoon instead of at night.

Now go fix that leaky pump.

On the list of the NHL's and NBC's sins, this would be at or close to the bottom. What exactly is wrong with starting the game at a time appropriate time for the time zone in which it's being played? Especially when scheduling it at a different time would create conflicts with other games.

What conflict would it create? NBC has multiple networks and we've already had numerous instances of more than one game being played at the same time. A 7pm local start wouldn't do any harm to the ratings on the west coast and would certainly boost them in the east.

2013-05-12 02:36:00 PM
By the way, during the regular season, all but one of the Ducks Sunday home games started at 5pm local time. The one that didn't started at 6pm.

Just a guess, maybe other events in Anaheim.  Events that were scheduled months ago. Maybe not, but the point it, the game is at 7.  You'll get over it.

It's not about channels, it's about splitting the audience. There are only 3 games today and one of them happens to be in California, so it sets up the ability do one east coast afternoon game, one east coast night game, and one west coast night game. Why force people to choose one game or another when you don't need to?

Besides, more east coast people would probably choose the Boston-Toronto game over the Ducks-Wings game if they were on at the same time. I don't think the ratings would be boosted as much as you might think.

By starting a game at 10pm, they've chosen to exclude a large part of their east coast audience.

Were there other playoff games that the NHL didn't want to overlap on those days too?  Maybe biatch about the other games starting so late.

West coast games start at 10 all the time here, and not just in hockey. It's nothing new.

If there had been been 0 or 1 other games on today I'd think you'd have a point. But the schedule they've made given today's games makes complete sense to me.

Speaking of the Ducks scheduling, WTF are they going to do if they win tonight? The Rolling Stones are playing two shows, this Wednesday and Saturday.

They would have had better ratings with eastern start times of 1pm, 4pm, 7pm or 2pm, 5pm, 8pm. I'm sure the Ducks fans going to the game would have rather had their normal 5pm start for a Sunday game.

Maybe play tuesday and thursday?  Game 5 monday in necessary.  Maybe a day game even?  I don't think there will be a problem.

Meh, I guess. Maybe there were other events, maybe they didn't want to get in the way of peoples' Mother's Day brunch, who knows? Personally if I were in California I'd rather be outside during the day.

/unless the Anaheim area also gets some of that May Gray/June Gloom thing that I learned about the hard way in San Diego last year

It won't be sitting there if there's a hockey game.  If it can be put up, it can be taken down.  And then put back up again.  The arena guys would probably love the overtime pay.

I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue. Part of the job description for the arena workers. MSG has hosted a Knicks and a Rangers game on the same day.

The area is designed so you can quickly switch from hockey to basketball and back. The Rolling Stones have a huge stage that takes more than a day to disassemble. It's so large and complex that they actually have two full sets so they can leapfrog across the country since it takes so long to set up and tear down.

Well that's a bit much. I know they're legends but what the hell Rolling Stones?

That said, if the shows are Wednesday and Saturday then they should be able to take it down for a game on the days in between and put it back up. Even if it's monumental pain in the ass.

It wont be fixed for weeks or months by your standards. Thats how long until they said they are sure it is liquid tight. So no hurry.

Speaking of hurries why the rush to see the Red Wings eliminated? You should be glad it wont happen until this evening.

Oh, we do have a thread now. Hello everyone. Someone leaving out of Wings and Ducks, and if the Caps and Bruins win we won't have any games tomorrow so here is hoping for a little bonus hockey (but an easy victory for my Wings) with a NY and Tor win, at least one.

I don't think any of us are smug tonight. Wings have made some great efforts at times to remain in the series, but play has been inconsistent, with a couple games near failures. I will simply be glad for us to get through to round two.
