That is Epic Kite Fail  Youtube February 9, 2009

There is another video shot that day without as much fail in it that shows what they were doing-- "power kiting".

I think q = (1/2)*p*v^2 is more relevant here. Especially that v^2 bit.

Not familiar with that one.

KE = (1/2) * mv^2?

Ok, that last video - that looks fun as hell.

What are "Kite Killers"?  A gadget that helps you avoid getting flung in the air like in the first video?

And this too.

Holy.  shiat.

the problem with killers is that if you are airborne and you let go of one of the handles you are dead for sure because the kite is going straight down. not a sport for the faint of heart....

It looks like fun, but if I were going to do this, I'd wrap myself in bubble wrap first.

I wonder how much injury one would sustain if you let go just as the wind picked you up?

Dynamic pressure is half times (fluid) density times (wind) velocity squared.
It means that as wind speed increases linearly, the force generated by the kite increases exponentially. Which is why a relatively modest gust can lift the guy off the ground.

Ah OK. I think you mean "quadratically" there, but I gotcha.
