"New York is still a relative bargain compared to other top cities around the world," Randolph said. "You get more for your money at the $50 million level."

Pretty sure that if you have $30-$50 million to spend on housing, you'll probably do pretty well in any city in the world.

Why on earth did Jeff Gordon buy a place in Manhattan in the first place?

My guess is status symbol. It's a way of showing off wealth.

Lots of the very wealthy buy luxury Manhattan apartments just because they can. Regardless of whether they actually spend any time in New York.

FTA- "Gordon purchased the apartment in 2007 for slightly less than $10 million"

And he's selling it for $30 million? Must have been a fixer-upper.

Not a bad return for a five year investment.

Can somebody explain this silliness to me? I am trying to reply to nucal. Since I can't, I will simply quote myself.

New to Fark, are we?

People on the Internet have a common and annoying tendency to pop in and announce that they are making the initial entry in a discussion thread.

Fark combats such contentless posts with a filter that auto-corrects certain common phrases used in such posts.

As a New Yorker, two thoughts:

1. That specific area (near the SW part of Central Park) has some ludicrously nice places if you're in that price range. Not that I've actually seen any of them, but still.
2. Just a guess on my part, but the fact that most people around here don't really care about NASCAR probably allows him to go through a day without being bothered as much as he would be in other places.

And this has turned into quite the filterpwn thread.

Basily Gourt: And he's selling it for $30 million?

No. He's listing for $30m. He'll probably sell for significantly less after it sits on the market for a year. Also, this is a family friendly website. Please try to keep the discussion of your boobies to a minimum.

Hmm. I've been trying to figure out a way to make ends meet. If New York is such a bargain, maybe I'll move there.

Well, people do make sushi for themselves. Alternately, when you're hiring staff, you look for a cook with the skill.

You can always go to 7-11, pick up some "sushi", put it on your bar and pretend you're hot shiat, or boobies, whatever works for you.
