Watching that reminded me of a 1950s B-movie called "The Monolith Monsters".

Uber-creepy.

Both SpikeStrip's comment and mine were "Fargo" references.

Officer Olson: Hiya, Norm. How ya doin', Margie? How's the fricassee?

Marge Gunderson: Pretty darn good, ya want some?

Officer Olson: No, I gotta - hey, Norm, I thought you were goin' fishin' up at Mille Lacs?

Norm Gunderson: Yah, after lunch.

That was a fantastic video! I've never seen anything like that before.

I liked the brittle, tinkling sound it made and wish the LOUD shrill lady had shut up more so I could hear it.

I didn't even know that could happen, but I've never lived in snow country.

I came to watch ide come ashore, and instead endured a screeching control freak yelling into a cameras microphone.

Now I want to punch my wife in the face.

Thanks a lot for that.

If that were my house, and even though the effort would likely be futile, I would at least be out there with a shovel or something trying to divert the ice flow away from my house.

If that were me, fark filming it, I'm going back inside, grabbing anything I can, and GTFO'ing.

Don't hate on her.  She suffers from Vertical Video Syndrome.

2013-05-12 09:42:51 AM
We spent one winter at the family cottage and saw this, but didn't get any video....because it was in 1973.  It didn't slide along sideways as much as the ice in the video, it mostly piled up and pushed over trees.

Noticed that the ice is in small vertical columns, "candle ice", which is often what happens to the ice as it deteriorates when it warms up.

Quick CALL Someone! Its going into their house. Quick call the ice police!

CSB
When I was a kid living on  Lake Erie, Canada side. Me and buddy were sitting on a rock at the lakes edge in the spring. The rock was the size of a large Buick, really. The wind changed direction and the ice flow started to move in and it pushed the rock further up on shore like it was a pebble.  Got off the rock really quickly, but still to this day remember how humbling and awe struck we were.

Sadly I don't think she provided quite enough material for autotuning.

It's been a soul-crushing winter in Minnesota though, just won't end. Snow melted completely away four separate times, only to be followed by another unusually late snow storm. If I had this happen to me to top it off I'd have a breakdown.

I don't know, I could have listened to her lovely voice saying inane and ignorant things more often and much louder. Don't know why my volume button stayed on.

Or you could be smart and not have houses yards from frozen lakes known for this sort of phenomenon.

I am constantly amazed at how people in this kind of situation remain completely oblivious.  They think of houses as immovable objects.  So it comes as a complete surprise that the ice that has been creeping higher finally pushes in a door.  I expected the video to show the house being literally knocked off its foundation.

Considering the vast amounts of energy involved, and the temperature differentials, there is simply no telling what might happen next in that kind of situation.  Like maybe a flash flood suddenly bursts out from under the ice.  I would have had myself and the kids 100 yards away from that, at a bare minimum.

Instead, she just wants her small child to stay at least 3 feet away.

This kind of reminds me of a video I saw some years ago of people filming a tornado from across a lake.  They were amazed, entranced, awed, right up until it was about 100 yards away, and then suddenly it dawned on them, this isn't entertainment.  They all died; the video somehow survived.  Of course, in that case, there may have been nothing they could have done anyway.  The thing bore right down on top of them.

Makes me want to buy some lake front property.  I can probably get some of this property for pretty cheap now.

I so wish that ignorant biatch had gotten swallowed up in that ice!  Nikki, Nikki, it's up to my ankles, Nikki, Nikki, its up to my waist, Nikki, Nikki, omg, its up to......tinkle, tinkle
