Welcome to Farktography!
This Week's Theme: "Farkstronomy 2"

Description
: Stars, Planets, other celestial bodies, spacecraft, or observational equipment. Difficulty: No streetlights. Note: Stacking and other astrophotography techniques are allowed for astrophotos; HDR and other software enhancements are not - all other normal Farktography rules apply.

We ask that before submitting your photos you read and adhere to the following submission rules, including but not limited to the following:
- Submissions must be photographs; screen captures do not count as photographs.
- You must be the original photographer of your entry. Do not submit anyone else's photography as your own.
- You are only allowed to enter a photograph once. Do not submit the same photo to another contest later.
- You may enter 3 photos in each contest as long as each photo is of a different composition.
- Please post each photo separately so they can be voted for individually.

Please note:
The overarching ideal behind Farktography is that image corrections are acceptable, while adding or removing elements in the image (e.g. removing telephone poles, adding Elvis) is not acceptable. HDR, stitching, or otherwise combining exposures in post processing are not allowed unless specified for a particular theme (multiple exposures done in-camera are acceptable, however). See the rules for more information on acceptable modifications, or check in at the Farktography Forums.

Legal: All photographers submitting photos to this contest are the legal copyright holders for the photos submitted and the photos are not to be considered free for any other use without written consent from the submitting photographers.
- Drop by the Farktography Forum on Fark (new window) or Farktography.net (for chatting, critique, techtalk and so on)
- Stats can be found here.
- Image hosting sites can be found here.

Posting after fluffybunny is intimidating. But here goes.

Overhead in the Adirondacks

I spent 3 nights shooting the sky and this was the best I got. There was an astounding amount of light in the sky to the point that shots over the lake looked like it was daylight. Gonna try some different ideas this year.

Nighttime on Stone Tower in the Allegheny Mts.

Funny story - shortly after i began shooting atop the tower, 3 car loads of people just showed up. I was afraid they were going to be partiers and I'd be awash in booze soaked idiots who were going to ruin my shots. They turned out to be a group from some summer camp looking through a large telescope one of them had. Turned out to be a pretty pleasant group after all...

At least I'm in before linguine, orionid and ravnostic (among others) blow me out of the water...

This is a single exposure. I was on the beach shooting the lunar eclipse with my pitiful equipment, meant only for terrestrial shots. The moon was about to slip behind the fog bank, when a friendly dog came over for a scratch, and bumped my tripod in the process. first I cursed, then I decided to keep it--this photo, not the dog. The dog went home with her owner, both unaware that I had a canine photo assistant that morning.

If the contest had allowed streetlights, then I wouldn't have cropped out a group of them just to the left. They look like the eyeballs blinking in the dark at the end of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

Thanks to all for the delicious examples you have provided! This contest has been timely for me, because I'm just starting to THINK about dipping my toes into more serious astrophotography.
