(YouTube)   Comedian Stewart Lee breaks down the 'It's just a joke' defence, stomps on it, piddles on it, and inserts a clockwork up its bum to animate it like a Mechanical Turk so he can continue to ridicule it. (Yes, some Not Safe For Work language)   (youtube.com) divider line 45

blah blah blah, I'm edgy because I hate Top Gear blah blah blah.

/Although I suspect that Richard Hammond would be much more annoying if you lived in Britain.
//In his defense it sounds like he may actually watch Top Gear unlike most of the show's critics

I must have missed some episodes... when did Top Gear use a "Just a joke" defense about something?

Watch that video, Top Gear didn't use that defense, "guy from the Daily Telegraph" used that defense.

Oddly subby, the person that used the "It's Just a Joke" defense most seems to be Stewart Lee:

I was thinking the same thing,  and that points out pretty clearly what Stewart Lee is really about. He paints himself to be an anti-populist comic, and he seems to be trying a bit hard on that aspect.

For anyone that gives a shiat, there is a feminist cat fight going on twitter, and at Salon and the usual places over the hashtag #killallmen and yes, many feminists that would otherwise say there's no such thing as a funny rape joke, can be seen saying now, #killallmen is just a joke.  https://twitter.com/search?q=%23killallmen">https://twitter.com/searc h?q=%23killallmen

Not from Top Gear but from Clarkson:

"Jeremy Clarkson's TV outburst in which he said striking workers "should be shot" has led to more than 21,000 complaints to the BBC.
..
Clarkson ... told The Times that he had informed the production team before transmission of the details of what he insists was only a joke remark. "

source

Clarkson is paid huge amounts of money to say 'outrageous' right-wing things. He justifies them by saying they are just a joke. He's been doing it for years and will continue to do it until people stop paying him.

"The show's producers thought it would be entertaining if Clarkson offered an extreme view of the strike that was not meant to be taken seriously, the newspaper reports.  "

That's okay - many people don't have senses of humor, I'm sure you can lead a mostly-fulfilling life without one.

There are many jobs, ranging from accountancy to IRS auditor, that need people just like you.

I'd suggest the DMV, but you seem to have issues with people who like cars.

So much hate in this person. I'm not surprised he's a self-described liberal.

Good god. From minute 9 through the end, he just dives right into preaching.

And I thought Bill Hicks had quiet audiences.

So to sum up, Top Gear is not hosted by a real hamster? That's about all I got from this. On this point I presume he is correct, and a comedian with a darkly bitter edge once again speaks truth into a world of lies.

What's even worse is that he dedicates a minute to someone who lost an eye as a child and says you shouldn't make fun of it because he couldn't help it, but he dedicates at least 10 minutes to Richard Hammond being short.

Comedians should be douchebags, but they should at least be consistent in the same routine.

If you didn't watch it, then STFU.

It was quite brilliant. Amazing how some of the comments are so off base. He isn't actually hating anyone.

/and a joke, like on Top Gear.
//he actually would make a decent farker but some morans have missed this.

mrbach: He isn't actually hating anyone.

He's hating Richard Hammond.  He was pretty clear about that.  And it wasn't the "I wish his head had been ripped off" - it was the "hampster" description.

What you missed is that by taking the joke too far, he was still using a cheap joke to describe him, and he kept using it right until the end.

I don't have a problem with him reaming Top Gear for acting like imbeciles. But the least he could have done was be funny about it.

What does having a sense of humor have to do with Top Gear?

Wait-- is it supposed to be funny?

Well there's the problem. It's not that I don't have a sense of humor; It's that they suck at being funny.

/People who like cars are fine.
//People who spend hours talking about them are a bore.
