It's meth. It's just meth. Our government is so corrupt they make you suck a pharmacist's dick to get one capsule of sudafed because someone might make meth from it, but then turn around and green-light insurance companies and doctors to just feed your kids meth every day under a brand name.

Might as well add an ethanol IV drip to the drivers' seats in cars as a safety feature, you hypocritical assholes.

I've heard it referred to cocaine in pill form.

Not exactly.  It's amphetamine, but not methamphetamine.  They are similar compounds, but not precisely the same.

Well, it's not as strong as meth, but that's about all I have to say about your argument.

/yeah yeah yeah, adderall makes you people function better
//speed does that to people, makes em feel good
///that's why they prescribed amphetamines so much in the 60's and 70's
////until the DEA noticed how many speed freaks there were in the US
///and cut that shiat out

/it goes through cycles

It's speed.

I'm sure a small fraction of the people prescribed it have a legitimate medical need for it. The rest are basically tweakers with health insurance and a prescription. Which is cool, I don't really care what drugs people choose to use.

Does the difference keep Adderall from farking with your brain circuitry like meth does? I understand if you tweak for a long enough time, there are irreversible changes to your neurochemistry.

Many psychoactive drugs can do that over time. It's a shame that the long-term effects on some of them are still unknown (or at least public).

You do realize it was a cheap shot at nazis "prescribing" their soldiers methamphetamine routinely right?
I'm guessing you're that guy at dinner parties whose stories get an uncomfortable silence that the type-A folks interrupt to start their own story to a sort of unspoken thunderous applause.

Hint: sometimes, you don't need to type a scientific correction, no matter how right you may be factually.

And on the flip side, do you want your child to be selected for the placebo control group in a class of students being given Adderall over the course of a year to see if it helps improve their test scores overall?

Uhh.. why yes, I would prefer my kid be in the control group.

No, psychosis is a side effect of long-term use of pretty much all stimulants. But I'm sure the doctor can prescribe you some anti-psychotics to deal with that. (How convenient). Though I don't know about irreversible. The brain is pretty elastic and few changes are irreversible.

It's branded Amphetamine.

I'd assume a big part of the problem with street meth is that there's all kinds of crap in it, since it was probably made in some guy's bathtub. At least there isn't floor cleaner in Adderall.

Assuming the interpretation is correct, he erroneously assumed that a) I'm still on meds, and b) I wasn't actually more engaged with life (your several somethings) than when distracted by the default state of my brain.

It was only on meds that I got my ass back in gear and got back on track in pursuing my education. I translated, coordinated, and produced a student production of Aristophanes' Frogs, held down a sysadmin job, and finally completed my (dual) degree. It gave me the handrail to develop the habits to fight my distractible predispositions--which are still an omnipresent fact of my life--to the point that I am now finally a Latin teacher. It's still barely manageable without meds, and I do have my stash, but I've been doing it. I wouldn't be here typing this without having had that handrail. So, yeah, he doesn't know squat about how distractibility works or how amphetamines change the dynamic.

They don't seem the same to me -- both in how they feel while in effect and as they are drawing
down.

I've taken adderall (of some form) for over two decades and it is indeed a wonder drug and I wouldn't be employable if I didn't have a way to counter-act ADD/ADHD.

I don't take it every day -- maybe one week a month -- and I've tried to not take it and just fight the ADD alone and that is not possible.

I've only recently been able to read a book cover to cover without the aid.

It used to require weekly trips to a psychiatrists office for talking -- which seemed basically to tie 50 minute hours to a prescription.  I tried quitting that several times but within time (and sometimes I waited too long) it would be obvious I was just not doing what i needed to do in life, so I would go back to another doctor and endure the 50 minute hours until I got sick of it again.

now I have a prescription from my primary care doctor which is wonderful -- i can tell when I need to start and manage when I stop.

I've taken stimulants of other kinds and besides keeping me up until 8am in the morning they weren't really all happy joy joy that people make them out to be -- really: i'm amped that way normally.

No it isn't a completely invented disease. It is however a completely over diagnosed disease. There are differences in the brain chemistry of people that have ADHD that causes them to have the issues that they have, and when given Adderal it helps with those issues. When a person who doesn't have those differences in their brain chemistry take Adderal it has a different effect on them than it does in a person who truly does suffer from ADHD.

Amphetamines have been around a lot longer than that.  As I recall, amphetamines were first prescribed way back in the 1800s as a treatment for asthma (it apparently worked to dilate the bronchioli).

I can't speak for Adderall, but I can speak for Ritalin and the effect on people is the same all around that I've ever seen and experienced. You take it, you concentrate on the stuff you want to do.
