As impressive as the quantity of lego that is, I am more surprised at the equivalent measures of the giza pyramid.

casey17: LEGO's suck now. They were best when they were just a bunch of bricks & you could make whatever you could imagine, instead of these pre-conceived "sets".

You know that you don't have to build the thing pictured on the box, right?

My son has multiple themed sets, and I don't think he's ever actually built whatever it is the set is supposed to be. Pirate ships become starships, Transformers become tanks, etc etc.

Because it's still just a big box of pieces that lets you use your imagination...

Wenchmaster: Could we build a death star with that many Legos?

Nope.  Just did a quick approximation, and it would take 754.7 quintillion quintillion times more Legos than that to make a Death Star.

Also, it would cost $17.279 quintillion dollars.

(used Ryszard Gold's numbers to find the cubic meters of material and substituted Legos for steel, these figures for a standard 8-peg block, and an average of $10 per pound of Legos from here)

My mom wouldn't let me have them - she said they'd get all up in the vacuum cleaner. They wouldn't have if she'd WATCH WHERE SHE VACUUMED!  :-(

madgordy: shouldn't this be more about how many legos each of us has stepped on.
and what the most painful shape to step on is.

....you know what, I think they should make a Lego Pyramid of Giza.

Full scale replica, put it in Cairo, Illinois.
