cabbyman: If he's guilty Texas knows how to deal with him.
DoctorCal: Recoil Therapy: I hope that the components for his devices were actually in the process of being assembled into devicesIf you google Bryce Reed, you'll find plenty of sources that have the entire contents of the court affidavit, which is a lot more damning than what's described in TFA.For example:According to an affidavit released by the federal court in Waco, the McLennan County Sheriff's Office was called on Tuesday to home in Abbott, which is near West, about 'a possible destructive device' and related items. The affidavit said that law enforcement officials determined that the device and related items belonged to Reed. The material is described as a 3.5-inch galvanized metal pipe an inch and a half in diameter. Two galvanized end caps were attached to the pipe. One end cap had a small hole drilled into it.Canisters containing a fuse, a lighter, six coils of metal ribbon and several pounds of chemical powders were also found. The powders were described as potassium nitrate, aluminum powder, red iron oxide, ammonium perchlorate, sulfur powder and other materials. The affidavit said that the materials had been left in a home near Waco by Reed on April 26, but the person at the home did not know what had been left. You can also download the whole criminal complaint from there (the Daily Fail).HTH.

Clemkadidlefark: Terry Bratton, 38, started the Colorado Hayman Fire in June 2008 in order to get more hours for her paycheck as a Forest Service ranger technician and be thought of as a hero for reporting it.138,000 acres6 fatalities$40,000,000+ cost to fight fireNearly 6,000 evacuated133 homes destroyed
Recoil Therapy: Everyone has stuff to make a simple bomb around their house (an empty water bottle & a couple of things that are under every kitchen sink), intent is everything here. If that is what it is then every hardware store in the country needs to be shut down & the owners arrested for having components for weapons of mass destruction (you would be amazed/frightened what someone with the right knowledge can make out of the inventory of a Home Depot - bombs, chemical weapons, all sorts of firearms, etc)
Recoil Therapy: According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a Texas residence on Tuesday where they discovered bomb-making components including a galvanised metal pipe, fuse, lighter and explosive powder in bags. Now wait a second here (having finally RTFA.... I really need to start doing that first...) THAT'S all that he was arrested on? I'm sure that quite a few people have metal pipe laying around the house left over from various projects (especially in rural-ish Texas). Show me anyone who claims to not have a lighter somewhere around the house & I'll probably call you a liar. The fuse is a little less common but I know I have a coil of cannon fuse around here somewhere from some long ago 4th of July project (and yes explosives do revolve around that holiday, the fuse is the hardest to explain). And the "explosive powder in bags" is a bit strange only because gunpowder comes in plastic bottles & shouldn't be stored in baggies. However anyone who reloads ammunition will have a bunch of "explosive powder" at their residence (assuming of course the the powder was gunpowder, anything else would be extremely hard to explain).I know that I also have gasoline out in the shed (for the mower), laundry detergent/dish soap, rags & glass bottles (if the recycling hasn't been picked up), should I be arrested for having the components for a destructive device (molatov cocktail with the detergent added to make it sticky like napalm)? I hope that the components for his devices were actually in the process of being assembled into devices (such as fuse holes drilled into the pipe, pipe cut up into short sections, etc) & not scattered around the house/garage where any homeowner would logically keep such items. The amount of AWing this guy was doing certainly raised more than a few eyebrows & probably was what warranted the closer look into his activities to begin with. I just hope that they have a LOT more to go on than "well, he had stuff to make a bomb". Everyone has stu ...
Goodluckfox: 1.5 inch pipe that's 3.5 inches long? That's not a bomb, that's a firecracker.
Silverstaff: So, we instead have to fight the societal root causes of crime, and be vigilant in prosecuting those who hurt people with the things they build.
ravenlore: This is Texas we're talking about. Who DOESN'T have that shiat at home?
BizarreMan: Also on Friday, paramedic Bryce Reed made a brief court appearance in the town of Waco where he was charged with owning an unregistered destructive device. So if it was registered he wouldn't have been arrested?

way south: The case is weak sauce unless they can show that he was assembling bombs. If they can prove he had anything to do with the fire tho... You might as well raffle off his boots, cause he's done for./Do they have the death penalty in Texas?

Azlefty: So far other than his job there is no connection to him and the explosion at the plantHe is a firefighter, if it goes bang, boom or whoosh they are into itInteresting how the right is latching onto this to say that lack of regulation is not a problem. For them I would like to point out that if he did do it the lack of regualtion that allowed him into area with known fire/explosion hazards was a very big contributing factor in the incident.
