The little girl tasting Vegemite for the first time...her face has a "Dafuq you just put in my mouth?" expression.

That was cute, but how can that girl be that old and never eaten an olive before? I guess some parents aren't very adventurous, she probably lives on chicken nuggets and mac & cheese and "just won't eat anything else".

I didn't try vegemite until I was in college and that was pretty much my experience.

Hrm, I'm 28 and have never eaten an Olive... just doesn't seem appealing at all.

What they didn't try 44 Magnum sauce? (4,000,000 scoville units).

Law enforcement pepper spray = 1,500,000 to 2,000,000 scoville units.  I've picked up the clean bottle without gloves and then washed my hands afterwards only to have every body part I touch afterwards (face etc.) burn for the rest of the afternoon.

I didn't like olives until a few years ago (in my 40s now). Now I love them.

I love olives. Especially big-assed ones sitting in the bottom of a full martini glass.

What?! No Durian?

I remember the my first experience with that fruit as a young man. I walked into my boss's office (he was Indonesian) and said, "What's that awful stench?!"

"Lunch", he replied.

That was my first thought about orange and lemon.  The lemon kid looked like he was about 8 or 9 years old.  But olives, meh.  I don't recall trying olives until I was about 10 or so.  I didn't even like them until I was in my mid-twenties.

What kind of olive? The above linked Greek olives? Those horrible green things people put in drinks? Black olives? Inquiring minds want to know.

I can't believe they were able to get Calvin to do that lemon part.

Because olives are bullshiat.

// actually, my kid's been eating olives since she first started solid foods
/// I hate them, but I'm not going to project that on her
/// and yes, I am a VERY adventurous eater. Just don't like olives

I think giving Vegemite to a kid should be considered child abuse.

Hell, I think giving Vegemite to an adult who hasn't tasted it before should be considered assault.

To be fair, I'm not sure how often I'd feed my kids JUST a slice of lemon.

Throw me in this group as well. Love to try new things, but olives have always been one of the very few things my taste buds hate. Infact I pretty much look like the girl in the video when I eat one. Complete with the triumphant arm raise at the end.

My cousin won't eat olives any more. He says that you never know where they've been.
He had a horrendous fraternity initiation involving olives....

HotWingAgenda: What in the flying fark are pickled onion and gherkin?

Gherkin = sweet pickle.  awesome addition to any deli meat sandwich.

pickled onion, same thing as pickled pigs feet but an onion instead of pigs feet.

My dog trying a tangerine for the first time was similar to the "olive girls" reaction.  Oh and cherry tomatoes when you bite on em the first time and their guts come pouring out.

I'm going to let you guess what a pickled onion is. It's not difficult.

Good point.  My brother was a bit of an oddball and loved raw lemon.  He would chomp them all down like orange slices.  I'm sure I tried it but made a face like the kid in the video...probably about 8 or 9 at the time, too.  Well, that explains that.

That Is EXACTLY the same expression on my face when I accidentally encounter an onion in my food!

Was that a piece of gauze that came out of the pickled onion kid's mouth?

Entertaining but a lot of those foods would be more accurately described as ingredients.  Anchovy, pickled onion, etc are too strong to eat alone.

I'm an awful mother. I knew it was bad to give my wee ones lemons, limes, oranges, and grapefruit, once they started cutting teeth. But I figured pfft, they're gonna lose those puppies in a few years  and make their way under a pillow to which I'll have to trade cold, hard, cash... so I figured wth, may as well get a giggle along with the once-in-a-lifetime photo op of their "first time tastings".  Hands down, they were the BEST candid shots ever taken of my kids.  lol  That's the extent of abuse I've imposed on them, sad to say. :P   I think I did pretty well leaving it at just those considering I wanted to duct-tape them to the garage ceiling with an attached poo-baggie on more than one occasion.   Now all I have to do is kiss them in public or dance in the grocery aisles and sing show tunes out the car window to torture them. At least I'm not smoking crack in front of them or promoting their teenage porn tape and trying to get them on a reality t.v. show.  lol

that was way lamer than I hoped.

aside from the stereotypical spinach, popeye was well known to be fond of eating olives.
