Look, people are too apathetic to care.  You can rub this in their face as much as you want. They wont care.  As long as there's a new episode of American Idol and KFC doesn't run out of chicken, they wont care.

Politicians the world over get away with atrocities on the daily.  But people don't care.  It sucks, but that's the world world we live in.

And do it right before the mid-term elections, and combine with with the 39th HCA repeal vote too.  That will help your electoral prospects immensely!

they just had the 39th. by then, they'll be up to 50.

True, but in this case, no one has gotten away with anything.  The independent review of the incident laid clear fault with State, and the funding cuts mandated by Congress.  An avoidable situation, for sure, but no Watergate style scheme, either.

Exactly this. There is nothing to uncover and there's nothing to impeach Obama over. If there was - there would be less rhetoric and more action.

This is worse than that time Reagan sold arms to terrorists.

Bontesla: There is nothing to uncover

I disagree. There's probably plenty to uncover, but nobody's going in the direction of uncovering it, because that means unmasking ongoing covert activities. Who gave the stand-down order is pretty small beer. The thing at the bottom is the gun running, who was being armed and what was Chris Stevens' role in it. That's what the books will be about in 20 years.

Ten times worse. After adding something else a Republican president did.

Dude, you're playing the "there's a scandal but you rubes don't give a shiat because POP CULTURE DIVERSION!  card. And that would work if there was an actual scandal involved. And ironically, the people who watch American Idol and eat KFC are well, you know.

The longer this goes on, the more they sound like truthers, merely looking for any inconsistency or mistake they can find and yelling "WELL WHAT ABOUT X", without realizing they have strayed so far from any credible narrative that the anomaly has no meaning and no context.

I think the closest thing to a coherent explanation is that we don't know what is being covered up and that is why we need to expose the cover up. An attack on an embassy is an attack on an embassy. But the mystery cover up could be anything. It could even be a boat! That's still pretty incoherent, but I think it's the closest they've come.

It's getting hard for me to re-watch that show. Seeing how politics works these days, I almost feel like that show did a disservice by giving people good feelings about things like the filibuster and divided government, making them seem like good things when in reality they are crippling the country.

I agree with your sentiment. But I just don't think this is one of those times. The GOP has a lousy history of going after 'scandals' when there's plenty of real, actual bullsh*t he can be criticized for.

As annoyed as I am by the constant requests that Benghazi finally be a scandal, I'm also impressed that this is the worst 'dirt' they can get on the commie Islamist n**ger.

Face it, guys - Obama is more or less scandal-free. He's done some things that made my skin crawl but you're not getting him by being petulant high school girls. He's smarter than you. So is his staff. On top of that, he's widely regarded as a family man and a guy who enjoys the occasional beer at a sporting event. You're not taking him down unless he rapes a child.

Yeah, in WW, Haffley is supposed to be a PITA Speaker who is very difficult to work with, but he eventually sits down face to face with Bartlet and they hammer out a deal.  No way Orange Julius would ever do that nowadays.

2013-05-10 09:36:48 PM
I'm sure they said something

Whatever it was, it probably started with "we still have questions...".
It's their entire strategy.

They'll ride this shiat through an impeachment just based on pretending no answers are good enough and that there is some deep dark insidious truth they conveniently have zero evidence of.

It's the perfect type of shiat that drums up their window-licking base.

And it makes for a great smoke screen as they obstruction our shiat into the dirt all so they can blame it on Obama later.

"could be abused by members (of Congress) to beat up the State Department for not paying attention to warnings, so why would we want to feed that either? Concerned ..."

Is not good. They are downplaying the truth for political reasons, and this is as close as a "smoking gun" as the Republicans need.

Here is what I BELIEVE is the "scandal"

1) Bengazi compound was attacked on 9/11
2) Obama paniced, because it was an election year.
3) Told the military NOT to rescue those being attacked.
4) 4 people died as a result.

Other side points
1) The original scandal was that Obama did not call it a terrorist attack.
2) There was misinformation given to congress on the nature of the attack

Yeah, I don't know. It makes NO farking sense to me.

You know, I've heard that from my die-hard Beck & Limbaugh addicted co-worker.  That Obama had initially blamed the attack on a video because admitting it was terrorism would mean admitting that he lied when he said he had killed off all of the terrorists in the world - therefore leading to his losing re-election.

I asked him to find me a video or citation of Obama saying terrorism was a thing of the past.  The best he was able to find was Rush saying that Obama had said it.  He considered that as solid evidence and could not understand how I did not.

I have a masters degree in International Economics. I've always wanted to be a diplomat, and I was an intern for a Congressman who was on the Foreign Relations committee. I interviewed for a job at the State Department and I failed both the polygraph AND the interview. I wasn't cut out to be a diplomat - I had done too many drugs in college and I was rejected as a candidate.

That was in 1996. LOL Here I am on Fark.com. True story.

...this was a venial, not a mortal, sin.

We're getting a peek behind the curtain. Normally the media and the public just see the final result -- the message the administration, or in this case the State Department, releases. This shows how that message was being created. And while that is certainly interesting, the process isn't new, and it doesn't qualify as a scandal. Like a magician who screws up a magic trick, it leaves the audience feeling a biatcheated, but no one is actually surprised that the magician isn't performing real magic.
