Is he just going to be "Roy from the IT Crowd" for his entire career? Or can we call him Chris O'Dowd one of these days?

I guarantee that if it had said Chris O'Dowd in the headline, one of the first three comments would have been "who?". I think he has a lot of face recognition, but much less name recognition at this point.

I tend to like Christopher Guest comedies. Will check this one out.

Excuse me if this off the subject a little bit, but just take a guess at how much I can bench press. Come on, what do you think? Take a guess. 315 pounds, at the top of my game, maxing out at 500!

Heh.  Is there any line Willard has delivered in all his work under Christopher Guest that *isn't* golden?

It is coming.  The pieces are in place.  They're looking for an opportunity when the networks aren't looking.  They seriously are giving off vibes that they would love to sell HBO GO directly, without the cable provider's mitts all over them.  They're just scared that if they do the providers will go scorched earth on them.

All they need is an opening.  Where it doesn't seem like they're screwing the cable companies.  Then we can watch boobs and dragons all day long.

It is very funny. You should definitely watch it.

i just saw him last night in a Doc Martin rerun as a bumbling, inept, manic thief who isnt taking his meds holding everyone hostage in an attempt to get a bag of explosives for a warehouse robbery.

and he isnt even the reason i want to see Guest movies but that is just supre-sized gravy on top, imo.  I will definitely see this in one way or another.

The issue right now is HBOs contracts with the cable companies, which do not permit them to sell it separately. Publicly, HBO is stating frequently and loudly that they have no plans to make HBO Go separate, while on the other side they are trying to renegotiate those contracts with cable providers. While not all will agree right away, most will concede and eventually allow HBO to be offered to subscribers of their internet service, though at a price higher than the price for the channel on cable (they don't want to hemorrhage cable subscribers even more because of this). So expect to see it as a separate service for about $20/month in about a year or two, possibly $25.

Interestingly, Netflix just passed HBO in subscribers. HBO would LOVE if they could cut ties with cable companies entirely, and not have to deal with the overhead needed to deal with them. But due to their contracts, that's just not an option right now.

I knew neither the Chris O'Dowd nor the Roy from the IT Crowd references. Christopher Guest is a genius, though, so I do eagerly await this. It appears to have the usual ensemble of improvisational comedians, which is always a pleasure.

I'm convinced that Christopher Guest produces more work overall since he has six fingers on each hand and can type scripts faster than anybody else.

I watched it once on my own terms. I was forced to sit through it again because: "How could you NOT find this funny?" And, even after the second viewing, I was told, "I guess you didn't have enough to drink." I'm sorry, no. Maybe you're thinking of Funny Lady, which is completely different and should in no way have any connection to the God-awful spew that was Bridesmaids.

In other news, this has just been added to recording list...

Yeah, that's a great one, but I still like the Are We Not Men? clip where Roy is crying in the car in the dark ... "Did you see that ludicrous display last night?"

Also, something something "listen to me going on, like Stephen bloody Fry," something something. I don't even remember where that's from, but it always cracked me up.

That clip reminded me of a trailer for certain kinds of movies I would never see unless some attractive female really wanted me to watch it with her.  And by certain kind I mean gay.  "In order to find himself...he must search his past."  I mean, that sounds like a real exciting journey of self discovery with a few laughs along the way and learn something about how we all fit together in this great big puzzle we call gay.  Despite the fact that it has Roy from the IT Crowd and Lenny from Laverne & Shirley I think I'll pass.  Already made a similar mistake with "Sideways".

Isn't HBO owned by Time Warner, a major cable company? Can't see them letting their subsidiary run around behind their back like that.

I watched this the other day and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Moss, obviously, was hilarious, the girl was pretty good, but Joel McHale was just flat. Normally I like him, but he was definitely the weakest link in that ensemble.

For those who don't know- Chris Guest is The 5th Baron Haden-Guest of Great Saling in Essex County England and his half brother Anthony Haden-Guest is the person that Tom Wolfe's novel "Bonfire of the Vanities" is most probably based on.

Interesting family to say the least.
