Just legalize the growth and cultivation already (actually all of it), the last thing I want when hiking through the woods is to piss off some grower.

It sounds as though an area was being cleared to grow marijuana not that marijuana was being burned, besides plants burning is not the same as dried out leaves burning.

A team of smokejumpers parachuting into a fire in the mountains of Southern Oregon landed in an illegal marijuana garden being prepared for growing season.

The six smokejumpers from a base in Redmond found the site Monday evening, when there was a rash of lightning strikes.

The smokejumpers extinguished the fire and then went for Taco Bell.

FTA: They seized two guns and more than 1,000 little pot plants.

No doubt valued at just over $3.756 BILLION.

Headso: they ceased plants... out of a forest....

When pot is completely legal every where and there are no drug gangs associated with it, I'll agree with you.

Until then, I prefer they get rid of illegal pot farms in the national forests.  The drug gangs aren't messing around, and accidentally hiking in to one is a good way to disappear and never be found.  It's a safety issue more than it's a drug issue.

Which makes my Boobies seem a lot less sarcastic..

This would've made the plot to Wildfire 7 muuuuch much much more enjoyable.

How anyone thought Tracy Gold could portray a charismatic, tough as nails, leader of some smoke jumpers is beyond me.

the absurdity of pot being illegal is illustrated when you are ceasing plants out of forest, that should be a wake up call for you as a police officer but so shouldn't getting over 300lbs and by the pictures you see that isn't the case either...

You could probably pull off I-5 at a dozen spots between Eugene and Albany where the freeway is hedged by trees and find a small crop unguarded.  Who needs smoke jumping?

Friend of mine lives in Eureka (California) and gave up hiking in the national forest long ago because of how scary he says the growers are getting.

Nothing is obscure. You've heard James Keelaghan's song about Mann Gulch, or Cry Cry Cry's (arguably) better cover?

All the hippies have cards, there is no reason for rogue grows.

And? So is Santa Cruz, CA, but that hasn't stopped it from becoming a planting ground (and battle ground) for Mexico-based cartels.

I, too, wonder how accurate the Mexican drug gang statement is, but I'll say that there are some... dangerous people in that part of the state, and they will end you if you get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I know people who no longer go driving in the mountains (Coast Range and Siskiyous), not because of the growers but because of the feds who are looking for the growers. They WILL pull their guns on you.
