He didn't have much response, though, when Leahy asked if the commission has made any recommendations yet.
"Well it's uh, we're working on that," Cornyn said. "What is this, May? And we're trying to, we're trying -- we're working on that."
"I would be happy to help you," replied Leahy.

Cornyn: "Our job?  What do you mean we're supposed to do our job?  I mean come on, what month is this, May?  I've only been here since 2002!"
Leahy: "Bless your heart."

Obama should now take the lead on this from him.  Nominate the libbiest libs that ever libbed for the bench, then bask in the derp.

Actually what he should do is nominate judges that Republicans would like, just to see the Republican's heads explode as they try to both accept the nominations and simultaneously trying to block each and every one because N0bama nominated them.

So, the GOP is acting exactly as it has for the last 5 years........shocking.  Conservatives only stay in power by championing issues that they themselves created.

Republicans have a point. Our system assumes that all parties involved act in good faith, but Republicans have proven that they cannot be trusted to act in good faith, so therefore the system must be reformed. We could get off to a great start by eliminating Republicans.

Jesus H. CHRIST, between Ted Cruz and John Cornyn this state no longer DESERVES to be a member of this nation. Sell Texas back to Mexico for $1 and give me 48 hours to get out, that's all I ask.

Oh that might be fun too.

Although it is sort of where we are at.  Cornyn can't both propose someone, then block them to prevent Obama from accomplishing anything.

/Actually I bet he could

"Although it might feel like it, at least for me, I haven't been here anywhere nearly close to 1,000 days," Cruz said.

Way to throw your counterpart under the bus, douchegoblin.

Why not?  The Turtle saw no problem with filibustering his own proposed and un-amended legislation.

My question is what happens when Hillary gets elected in 2016 and 2020?   Are the GOP really just going to dig in their heals and refuse to fill judicial seats for 16 years?

I think there is a phrase that is useful here: "the banality of evil"

Really Obama has both been cursed and blessed by completely idiotic opponents. But because of the demographics of the nation, if the Republican party continues to insist on being so stupid or evil (or both) then all but those with resources will continue to suffer. Then again, you have to wonder: is that the actual goal?

Absolutely. That is what Benghazi is all about - giving them justification to obstruct Clinton. See also Rand Pauls explicit admission of this on twitter.

Cornyn is a former Supreme Court Chief Judge (Texas). You'd think he'd know a little about courthouse plumbing.

But the best of the article is this: Corpus Christie.

Perhaps the political writer should get together with a geography writer and sort out whether Corpus Christie is a palm-tree-covered, white sandy beach port at the northern end of Padre Island or a corpulent governor of NJ.

It would be interesting if the next President were a white male Democrat, and suddenly the Republicans are able to deal, bringing governance maybe not up to the level of a smooth-running bureaucracy, but at least reclaiming the "loyal opposition" mantle. And then spending the next four years insisting that it isn't about race.

"No, really, we've just changed our minds and decided to allow some the legislation and executive recommendations we've been denying for the past eight years because suddenly we like them better for no reason whatsoever. The language has been improved."

"It's the same bill, word for word, that you filibustered in..."

"THE LANGUAGE HAS BEEN IMPROVED. GOVERNMENT IS HARD. YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND BECAUSE YOU'RE LIBERAL MEDIA AND EVIL."

"I'm from Fox N..."

"LIBERAL MEDIA! EVIL!"

Yeah, 'cause Bill Clinton totally didn't have to deal with all this BS. <eyeroll>

The only differnce is back then the GOP used to try and keep it's imbeciles out of the spotlight. Today they put them on pedastals and declare them brilliant thinkers.

Been a hero of mine since he ripped a new one to several Bush official during the hearing on the Bush Adminstrations attempts to polticize the US attorney's office.   This guy is a former prosecutor and it shows when he gets pissed

This has already happened, with no exploded heads. Robert Bacharach was recommended for the 10th Circuit by Tom Coburn of all people, Obama put him forward for nomination...and then the Republicans blocked him for ten months. He finally won approval a couple months back.

Light bulb just clicked in my head on that.  I thought they were just trying to distract their base from the massive obstructionism they are pulling now.  I have never been able to give them credit for long term planning with the exception of the State races in 2010 which gave them control over redistricting and built the Republicans a bulletproof majority in the house.

It's half a joke but I believe our political system needs major reforms. Getting it done would be a monumental task though.

This still isn't long-term thinking. Because if Clinton doesn't run, or doesn't win the primary, they'll have wasted all the outrage. The '08 election was the same way; Republicans prepared themselves to go against Hillary, so when Obama got the nomination, they had to resort to the extra-derpy shiat like birth certificates and arugula.
