(Kotaku)   7-11stores in Japan have people of all ages draw pictures of their mom and display them for Mothers Day. It's as weird and creepy as you might think   (kotaku.com) divider line 37

is there really some kind of overlap between video games and gawker japan?

Not clicking the link (blocked at my company IIRC).  I assume tentacles and other anime trappings are in abundance?

Yeah, pretty much this.  That was some troll-tastic stuff.  For some reason this one makes me think of battered wife syndrome:

I like the picture of Japanese Beavis*, but I'm not sure that Japanese Butthead understood the assignment. Then again, we've never seen Mrs. Butthead have we? Maybe Beavis and Butthead are cousins or maybe Japanese Beavis drew the portrait of his Japanese Momma and she really looks like that.

On the other hand, isn't it great how Beavis & Butthead can be redrawn as a parody of almost anybody?

I've seen them as Star Trek captains, ther Royal Highnesses Prince and Princess Diana, and dozens of other parodies of famous people or characters (including, IIRC, Dick Cheney and his boy toy, Georgie) and they are always great.

*It's based on a famous Japanese print. You may recognize the original.

There's some wonderful art work there. This seems like a great idea that would bring a lot of people into 711 stores to enjoy the imaginative and often quite impressive or funny art work.

I like the idea a lot better than those stupid charity thingies they do in North America. Perhaps those could be replaced with a drawing contest where people donate a buck to post their "art work" at a themed exhibition instead of a stupid leaf or shoe or something with their John Hancock on it. That would be cool and might raise a lot more money for charity without annoying so many people who get tired of the walls of crappy cartoon shoes in supermarkets.

Drawings at 7-11?

The last time I was at a 7-11, I remember the day, it was the day Spawn came out. Spawn #1 out front of 7-11 which sold comics at the time, and no one knew how valuable they would be one day so they were just out front on a wire rack in the sun and rain.

My mother's dead and in Hell and I've been trying all these years to resurrect her. Thanks for reminding me subby. This was definitely a memory I wanted.

I missing being able to go into a 7-11 and pick up a few onigiri and some hot canned coffee too. Great late night munchies. (Nikku Man were tasty as well).

I think this could only work in Japan because it's normal to see drawn dicks in Anime/Manga.

If they tried it in the US, every mom's mouth would have a dick put in it by some asshole.

I think there is a lesson there about prohibition.
