Does anyone actually *like* Tebow?

2013-05-10 06:57:45 AM
Belichick is just being cautious. No one really believes Tebow either could or would sprinkle Holy Water on him, but why take a chance?

2013-05-10 07:32:58 AM
But the Patriots' source said the team won't take a chance on Tebow as a situational player because "they wouldn't like the circus that comes with it."

Sounds pretty damn reasonable to me.

Tebow brought all of this on himself, too.

Tebow in WWE.  Vince would try to make him a condescending Christian heel as a 'project'.  He'd make it on TV once or twice before being 'future endeavored'.

Tebow in TNA.  Four appearances accompanying someone to the ring and then tebowing in the middle of the ring at the end of a match, then he disappears off TV for three months.

I like Tebow the leader. I emo hate Tebow the ESPN production.  Which is basically what every team in the NFL thinks. They'd love to have a guy who can play all those positions and is a hard worker. What they don't want is so ESPN reporter asking coaches about "Is he gonna playing QB?" and "Breaking live to camp as Tebow gets a new haircut. How will this effect his QB chances?"

2013-05-10 09:35:30 AM
Tebow, as one NFC offensive coordinator told me last spring, carries more of a stigma than Terrell Owens.

How is that physically possible?

2013-05-10 09:36:51 AM
So, the Pats have no interest in Tim for the exact same reasons other NFL teams have no interest in Tim.

This guy is a demi-god to Gator fans. His stupid post game press conference cry is now a plaque outside of the stadium. And when he was in college the easiest way to completely piss off a Gator fan was to say that Tebow had no chance in the NFL.

For the life of me, I can't figure out what's so farking interesting about Tim Tebow that his name has to be brought up every single farking day.

2013-05-10 09:56:58 AM
Hate seems like a bit of overkill but of course he does like Tebow's style. Bill's game is built around a QB who is deadly accurate and not real mobile. Tebow is the opposite.

This is why I stay away from ESPN.  I can't figure out why people base their opinions of athletes based on the amount of coverage they get, and that they think that the athletes themselves determine how much time ESPN devotes to them.

He should sue ESPN. Had they not overcovered him, he wouldn't be suffering the financial hit he is taking.

Of course, it is his fault - he should have never signed with the Jets.

I can see multiple reasons for that point of view:

1. Tebow wants to be a QB and nothing else.  If he were willing to adapt to another position, like many of the other former college QBs who coverted in the NFL, he would probably be a started right now.  See Julian Edelman, Josh Cribbs, Antwaan Randle El, Anquan Boldin, etc.  Okay, so Boldin converted in college, but you get the point.  Being stubborn isn't helping his NFL career.

2. Tebow is the one putting himself in the middle of the media circus.  He was the one who decided to do the Super Bowl Commercial.  He was the one who wanted to go to Robert Jeffress hate church.  All indications are that he wanted to be on the Jets, not the Jags and Denver accommodated his request (remember the Jags offered the biggest deal in the trade, I see no reason for Denver to make the second best deal available.)

3. Tebow isn't improving as a QB.  It's your fault if you don't get up to NFL caliber at your position.  No one elses.  If the amount of help that Tebow gets isn't enough, then he just doesn't have the ability to adapt.  Why should you blame the NFL for that?  Name another backup QB that's had this amount of help?  Where's the outrage about people like Jason Campbell or Tarvaris Jackson who are far better at the position and have been put into worse situations through various circumstances (Campbell's rotating coaching carousel, Jackson was doing well in Seattle until the torn pectoral muscle... not Russell Wilson good, but certainly better than Tebow).

Speaking of Russell Wilson, this isn't Tebow's fault, but the NFL is getting pretty packed with good QBs right now.  Not everyone is elite, but many of them are good now.  Even ones we make fun of here on Fark, like Carson Palmer, have shown more ability at the position than Tebow has.  Heck, some of the current backup QBs have displayed a level of expertise above Tebow in their short playing time.  Matt Flynn and Kevin Collins for example.  Who knows if they will pan out, but considering how many chances Tebow has already gotten and not improved, I think it's reasonable for any coach to take a look at some of the other QBs available out their first.

2013-05-10 10:07:00 AM
Geez give the guy a break. He's had more success in the NFL than a lot of QBs.

ginandbacon: Does anyone actually *like* Tebow?

I don't think anyone has anything against Tim Tebow as a person. By all accounts he has a positive attitude and strong work ethic.  He just doesn't seem to have the tools to be a good NFL QB and giving him a shot would require taking on all the ridiculous media attention that comes with him, and he has no control over that.  I wouldn't want him with the Saints as a QB because I don't think he could run the offense and I don't want the media nonsense that follows him.  That said, I see no reason why someone can't make use of an athlete like him somehow.

Or at least a complete lack of self-awareness and introspection. It's almost as if they've been conditioned to not think critically, particularly about themselves or their beliefs.

That commercial isn't the reason for the circus. Choosing the Jets maybe be a part but ESPN was in full Tebowner mode before the Bronocos finished their season.

Farking sports reporters.  This and Stephen A talking about some made up bs shiat about Danny and Doc is just farking stupid.

Belichick, by every public action, seems to regard Tebow highly.  He may not think he'd work out at QB but I can't imagine he'd have a hard time finding a place for him to contribute.  He does, however, hate the media circus, with or without Tebow involved as fodder.

/Phew, take a breath there.
