Whiskey Pete: 1960 Plymouth XNRSold for $935,000

Yeah this will go for 1 million + and it is at a respectable auction house so it won't be subject to Barrett Jackson stage rash.

If an American car company ever made a Bond Car, I'm thinking it would look a hell of a lot like that.

It does say that the driver's seat is set higher than the passenger seat...

Honorable mention to Jeep's 4.0L six. In. De. Structible. I've had three, 2 of them went over 250k. The third was destroyed in a head-on collision. The Chrysler 3.7L V6 they use nowadays is... not great.

You should hear it. The XNR is quite loud. The development also led to an aluminum slant six, which actually was available for a few years in the early '60s.
Thanks Subby, very nice find.

Oh hells yeah. We had a couple trucks on the farm that my brother and I did our best to maim or otherwise destroy, and those straight six engines kept chugging along. We somehow kept the pickup with the flathead six from being sold and we intended to restore it, but an oak brought down by Hurricane Fran flattened that thing like a pancake. So there's the final evidence - it takes a major storm to kill a straight six.

That would be the real car with the ray tracing around it...

A GIS turned up some real life pics..

It just killed the body, I bet it would have ran in another truck.. It'll never die!

Someone I knew in HS had a slate six, when he got a new car, he tried to kill it, ran it with no oil and it wouldn't die...

that is one UGLY car. i'm sorry - i appreciate what they were trying to do, but it doesn't hold a candle to the ferraris or astons of the era.

Sexy car. Saw it at the auction last year.

Couple of things to observe here.
Look again at drawing at around :39 mark - is that a red penis near the top? Maybe Freudian? A little like this (not sure if SFW, so linked)
Speedometer only goes to 160? Really? I would think it was capable of a little more than that.

I too have a fondness for the slant 6.  Drove many a K-car into the ground; it was never the engine that determined the "ok - too much money to fix" point. What can I say, K-cars were crap, but I was young and poor and had a family to support.

Topped out at 152 with a fiberglass nosecone attached.

RTFA, "In initial tests by Chrysler, the XNR hit 146 MPH; not bad, but Exner had hoped it to be capable of 150 MPH, so Dick Burke added a fiberglass nose cone that enabled it to hit 152 MPH "

K-cars never came with slant six's... they were 4 bangers.

It's unusual looking for sure, but it's damn few cars that can hold a candle to the DB-5 or 250 GT California in the looks category regardless of era .

OMG!!!  I want that car!

My current ride is cool, and a 225 slant 6, but that is amazing!!

true...

but i just can't help feeling that the proportions are all wrong on that thing. it's too narrow and too tall. i mean, it's cool; don't get me wrong - but it's a case where a few mm one way or the other could turn it from an eyesore to an icon. it just seems... wrong to me.
