Subby here. Any other PA farkers dealing with this crap? I drive between Camp Hill and Harrisburg and it's an absolute nightmare right now.

I know that this mess turned my 20 min commute into an hour long slog this morning.  I was not happy.

i live in lower paxton. You would not believe how bad the traffic was on Jonestown road this morning. That accident screwed up things a good distance away. I live about four miles from work and it took almost half an hour to get there this morning, and we take back roads to get there. Normally takes us 10 minutes.

traffic all around the local area is gonna be a mess 'till monday at the very least.

Oh that's right, with this version you can't reload an earlier save.  :(

Great, I most likely (won't know until tomorrow) have to drive there tomorrow.  I shouldn't have asked yesterday how this week could get any worse.

I'm in Linglestown.  Life sucks for me here with everyone using Mountain Rd to get off of 81 on on to 39 to try and detour around it.

2013-05-09 07:47:40 PM
And this version is always on DRM, server lag too.  Much less a flaw in the traffic algorithm.  Good luck PA!

ouch. I'll bet detouring truckers trying to use that roundabout has to be a mess.

"State police said the crash occurred at 6:10 a.m. when the tanker, fully loaded with diesel fuel, overturned and caught fire.

The driver, 52-year-old Thomas Uecker, of Dover, was able to escape the truck with minor burns. "

Thankfully, my commute to Camp Hill only requires the Harvey Taylor since I live in the city.  Sucks for everyone on the Northside of HBG though.  The only major bridges are now 83 or the Turnpike...both of which drop you in about the same location.  Clusterfark of epic proportions.

2013-05-09 07:57:45 PM
Awesome-sauce. I used to live on Front St in Hbg and would have to take 81 North about 10 miles to work. If I didn't quit working there years ago, this would have probably been the deal breaker.

I commute from Hummelstown to Hershey every day so having to listen to everyone else at work complain about this for weeks on end will have a significant impact on my well-being.

Didn't bother us a bit. Traffic is perfectly normal....

Grew up in the area, and yeah, that's gonna be a biatch.  My dad's gonna have to find a new way to drive to Camp Hill for work.

Man, last year I did a commute from Baltimore to Lock Haven, PA 3 times a week. It would've sucked if this had occurred during that. Thankfully it didn't and my life is fine. Just wanted to keep you all updated.

Love,
Omarion

I had to deal with this highway closure today...

http://www.niagarathisweek.com/news/article/1615274--major-collision -c loses-qew

Over two hours bypassing the closed highway section which pushed three lanes of traffic through ~20 miles of 2-lane roads with lots of left-hand turns, short green and lo-o-o-ong red signals.

Not as bad as that one in PA though.

Damage to that tractor will buff right out, IMO.

It is. Trucks following detour tearing apart Linglestown roundabout. I think when they designed those stupid roundabouts they forgot that tractor trailers exist. Even though it's a state route.

This wasn't the Eisenhower interchange. Although I understand this whole crap had things backed up that far.

Shiat. How long has the construction with the "Express Lane" been going on in that area?

Exit 59 -- that's east or west 581 from 15?

I-81 WAS the best way to get from Greenville, SC to Northern NJ.  So much for that, Harrisburg traffic will make DC look like Sugar Rush.

Here's a detour that will avoid all of that:

I-81 North to US 30 East to PA 234 to US 30 again to US 222 North to I-78.

2013-05-09 09:12:38 PM
I'm really glad I don't have to travel that road on a daily basis.

SilentStrider: I'm really glad I don't have to travel that road on a daily basis.

I did up until a little more than a month ago.  I used to commute from the Wertzville Rd. exit to 39 in Hershey, and I would have had to take 581/83/322 instead.  There's a lot about that job I don't miss.

2013-05-09 09:19:31 PM
Yeah, it was a pretty crappy commute today. Almost 2 hours from Hershey to 322's Linglestown Rd Exit, taking 39.  Just for fun, on a southern detour of the 81 fiasco, a truck full of hay caught on fire on the turnpike.

Came up from the south on 81 to Camp Hill because I had to be at the gym in 26 minutes. Everybody seemed to be taking things well. TONS of people were getting off 81 at the Carlisle exit for the Turnpike. 581 was smooth until the Rt 15 exit.

Shutting down I-81 doesn't just mean taking out a 6-lane interstate, it also means taking a Susquehanna bridge out of the equation. There are only 4 bridges across the river (+ the turnpike bridge), and they're already at capacity. Closing or even limiting just one is always a disaster during rush hours.

It was a nightmare getting home from Camp Hill to Carlisle, and that was going the opposite direction. I'm dreading the drive tomorrow.
