The Stealth Hippopotamus: Well what else is the minority part suppose to do?!

Work with the majority party to craft legislation that benefits the country, instead of throwing a temper tantrum?

Seriously, 37 (and counting) attempts to repeal Obamacare, numerous anti-abortion bills with no chance in Hell of passing, multiple partisan witch hunts, getting America's credit downgraded by refusing to raise the debt ceiling (to pay for spending THEY ALREADY AUTHORIZED) until the last minute...Does that sound like sane government to you?

And people wonder why young generations think Republicans are worthless.

Actually it ratchets up a level with each successive passing of the White House to the other party.  However, with Obama being the half breed socialist Muslim usurper that he is, the GOP has pushed a little harder than usual this time around.

I still believe that the Democrats to some degree have an interest in governing.  The GOP, on the other hand, farks everything up on purpose and then says "See? government doesn't work!".  That's the fundamental difference.

Indeed.

For those other folks in the thread saying basically "What is the Minority party supposed to do?", it's simple. Put forth your own ideas, and work with the Majority party to seek a compromise. You know, Bi-Partisanship? This worked just fine for the last 200+ years, and while there have been bumps in the road here or there, the GOP during the Obama Administration has taken partisanship to an all-new level.

There's a reason you see "We get it, he's Black" all the time in the Politics threads. I'm not saying the GOP is entirely racist, but they are all playing along with a central leadership that are opposing Obama on every single thing, and offering zero compromise. The GOP does not wish to compromise at all, it is either "their way or the highway", despite being the Minority party.

They were not this way with Clinton, so what is so different about this President, to raise such ire? That's right, he's Black. And for many, many Conservatives, racism is still the norm.

From an article on LinkedIn, written by the CEO of Gallup: "Here's the problem: The very survival of America depends on job growth and GDP. But what are the White House, Congress, and all of the media and talking heads focusing on? Guns, immigration reform, and foreign affairs. Bluntly, none of these issues have much to do with the core drivers or root causes of America's potential decline."

There are many in the business community who share his sentiments, but will not speak up because the last thing they want to appear is "liberal".

So why do people vote for them?

Because the alternative is less appealing?   I mean, President Gore?  President Kerry?  President McCain?   No thank you.

No. False. Wrong. Typical of a modern conservative.

Obama routinely gets high approval ratings while Republican approval is in the shiatter.

Young people support Democrats more than Republicans, and for obvious reasons.

The good news is that the R(ape) party has been showing their true colors for years now. Young people think they are pathetic losers. Women think they are pathetic losers who will strip them of their rights. Hispanics think they are pathetic losers who want to deport them. Old people think they are pathetic losers who will try to kill them.. There is no demographic where the R(ape) party can show any gains. So they have no choice but try to completely destroy the economy and blame it on the black guy.

Welcome to regional, marginal, permanent minority status, assholes. You deserve it.

Yeah, right. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see some aggression from the left in this country, but too many Dems are outright pussies.

Harry Reid, for example. The filibuster still exists because of that farking pantywaist.

You see on one side of the equation you have costs and on the other side you have revenue. If you must have more revenue than costs you have two choices: cut costs or increase revenue.

Rueened: The Stealth Hippopotamus: Blues_X: Subvert democracy, obviously.

This doesn't even make sense! They were elected too. Should they just roll over and let things they know are a bad idea go though?!

Car_Ramrod: We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas!

If you think they haven't put forwards some ideas then you not paying attention. Try reading something other than the Huff Post and Mother Jones.

Making 37 unsuccessful attempts to repeal the President's landmark legislation is not really what I'd call 'putting forwards some ideas'.

They're doing more than that. That's just a few hours of their day.

Oh yeah - don't forget more Benghazi hearings, and all the votes that are DOA in the Senate, like their retarded budget proposal, the debt-prioritization bill, their 40 job creation tax cut bills, and now, just hours ago, yet another committee on Benghazi. They sure are putting forward some stellar ideas. Good on them!

Yes...anytime a consequence of the sequester is on display, it's just "political theater".

It's like the Republicans didn't realize there are consequences to the sequester just like there are consequences to every decision one makes in their lives.

"Alright, let's cut some spending"
"What? You didn't tell me that was going to include the air traffic controllers. This is all Obama's fault!"

Teufelaffe: The Stealth Hippopotamus: cameroncrazy1984: No, but they have used a record amount of filibusters

So ok with this. If you want a vote now and figure out what's in it Congress go right ahead. I'm thankful they are slowing that type of shiat down.

You do realize that what they're slowing down is doing their farking jobs, right?  This is not, "OMG, if we don't threaten to filibuster the Democrats are going to pass this horrible bill!"  This is "OMG, if we don't threaten to filibuster we might have to actually do our jobs and discuss this bill!"

Absolutely true. While the ultimate goal is to stop a Democratic President from achieving anything substantial (too late, btw, assholes. Obamacare ring a bell?), Republicans are using the filibuster to give them cover from having to explain their incredibly stupid, irresponsible, and provably false ideas on every modern policy in this country. A filibuster keeps them from making fools of themselves in public view.

You see, raising the debt limit or defaulting on the debt has nothing to do with costs or revenue.  Congress already approved the spending.  Now they don't want to pay the bill.  Spending and entitlement cuts won't do dick all to the debt ceiling.

Why am I bothering with you?  I've seen you troll and you do it better than this.  Enjoy the day.  The field is yours.

this is actually quite simple reasoning on behalf of the Republicans, they would not consider their actions obstructionism for the simple fact that they don't see this country as the multi-cultural-racial-religious-mixed bag-o-nuts & everything under the sun that it is.

they see it as their country, not ours.

they aren't obstructing, they are cleansing.

It sounds like you sincerely believe that the only legitimate role for a minority party is to prevent the majority from accomplishing anything. How, then, is the government supposed to govern, as there is always a minority? Since you seem so dead-set against democracy and republicanism, what is your preferred form of government?

That sentiment will go out the window the very second the GOP takes over the White House again.  You won't hear another peep about fiscal responsibility.

Also, the only "Republican" in the last century who actually practiced fiscal responsibility was Eisenhower. All claims that Republicans are "fiscally responsible" are false.
