Can you believe those pricks for thinking people should get paid a living wage?  And what about those guys who insist that voting rights should be universal?  How arrogant can you get?

He's right, but only because it takes arrogance to say "everyone should follow this law I've created." That sort of condescension will always be a part of making laws no matter what party proposes them

And the GOP proudly races to the bottom.

They made 'progress' a negative and insult. Fark you and your desire to jump back to the 1850s.

Projection yadda yadda.

'Cause, you know, ain't nothing arrogant or condescending than calling huge swaths of the population "takers."

"I got mine.  Fark you."  That's the true core of empathy, decency, and understanding.

If you believe progress is a bad thing, then maybe you're just not cut out to be a human being.

I have no idea how the democrats managed to paint the GOP as the "selfish" party that is "for the rich."

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to thinking about my new budget, where I'm going to propose slashing benefits for the poor and raising their taxes, while cutting taxes for the rich.

"Instead of helping people make their own decisions, it makes those decisions for them. It makes Washington the center of power and politicians the center of attention."

You mean like making the decision for a gay man whether or not he should marry someone he loves.

How about making the decision for women when they should or shouldn't start a family?

But did you guys hear that Bloomberg wanted to ban giant sodas because people were becoming huge fatasses who wouldn't take responsibility for their own health?  How arrogant and condescending!

Vote for me instead - I promise never to do that.

also I will eliminate the capital gains tax and lower the top tax brackets to help the richest people get even more fabulously wealthy, while cutting education, social security, health care, and all of the other programs that help people who truly need it.  Oh, that and I'll try to make abortion and birth control illegal because my religion says so.

I don't understand the right's opposition to progress as if it were some kind of pie in the sky utopianism.  The entire modern age is built on 19th century progressivism.  Sure there was some bad stuff, like eugenics and prohibition, but there was also lots of good stuff, like not working children to death in factories and giving women an equal shot in life.

If it's argent and condescending to want a better world, so be it, because it is a better world.

Marcus Aurelius: Looks like no one told Ryan that "progressivism" is mostly charging rich people higher taxes.

This a billion times.  Without a doubt, the GOP's number one goal since 2008 (other than being dicks to Obama and trying to score poltiical points) has been protecting the rich from any tax increases.

In fact, the GOP thinks that not having taxes go up at all on the rich is so incredibly important, that it literally brought the country to the brink of default and had its credit rating downgraded, PURELY to protect tax cuts for the wealthy.

For God's sake, we haven't had a budget passed in years.  The whole government is being run in a massively inefficient, haphazard manner.  But the GOP can't agree to compromise on anything, because they all gave their solemn oath to never, under any circumstances, raise taxes on the rich.

For fark's sake, GOP congressmen had to ask Grover Norquist's permission during the last round of manufactured crisis, because they needed him to bless that ending the tax cuts for the top tiers didn't violate their sacred pledge to him.

Until we kick these guys out of office, our country is farked.

And then reinvesting those tax dollars into social infrastructure which further cements social stability, which is generally good for business, which ought to translate to greater profits for the rich (assuming they aren't Tony Stark that is).

An accusation of arrogance tossed at the other side is somewhat humorous coming from someone whose party gets so much traction from the idea of American exceptionalism.

Does anyone believe that Ryan actually wrote the "Ryan Budget"? He showed such ignorance during the campaign I can image him having the knowledge to actually assemble a piece of legislation that large. I assume it was actually written by a "conservative" think.

A Republican complaining that an opposing ideology tries to consolidate to much governmental power and put too much focus on politicans is so rich, it just has to be fattening.

Also, the party that wishes to decide who you can marry, when you can give birth, and whether you're wealthy enough to vote calling others "arrogant and condescending" is equally rich.
