Did your mom make you wear your hat like that also?

If he hasn't shown up on campus yet to attend practice, then the contract isn't binding because he hasn't received any compensation

Lost Thought 00: If he hasn't shown up on campus yet to attend practice, then the contract isn't binding because he hasn't received any compensation

Wrong.

Promise of compensation = compensation.

The article makes it seem like Georgia is on equal ground with USC as his preferred destination, but I hate Lane Kiffin, so I'll just say he's now intentionally tearing families apart and this is entirely his doing.

"So I made her (his mom) happy" =/= duress.

His hat says respect...I seriously doubt he gets any after wearing his hat like that.

It must be so stressful to get that far along in the recruiting process only to find that nobody's check has cleared. How else do you choose a university?

FSU will end up granting the release. Usually they stipulate that he can't go to another school in the same conference or to a school they are scheduled to play for the next 4 years. I don't know if FSU has a contract to play either USC or UGA but if they did they might not agree to either of those. FSU has the advantage of possibly forcing him to formally transfer but I doubt they will do that. They don't want future recruits to think twice about committing. They'll make sure he goes someplace where they don't have to play against him.

This late in the year, I would be shocked if USC or UGA even had any scholarships left to give the kid. On top of that, it sets a precident for their kids to pull the same shiat on them in the future. They'll either get the kid to play this season then transfer or wait till its far too late for him to play anywhere, then let him go.

Why would you chose USC which is still on probation for two more years with a slimy coach who will probably leave for a NFL OC job next?  Can you say Mercedes Benz?

By 'their', I was referring to USC and UGA.

He should just go to Alabama where apparently they just straight up pay their players (if you believe their twitter accounts).

If signing letter of intent is releasable, how long until grey shirting with LOI or oversign a bunch and release the ones you don't want becomes okay?

This slope, it is slippery.

The letter of intent is to protect both parties- 1) that the player will have a scholarship 2) that the university will have a player.   For some players, they will always get a scholarship (5 star rated athlete)- but for the majority it is a benefit for them to know where they are going and that they will have a slot.

If you don't want the guarantee, you don't have to letter of intent on national signing day.  If you don't LOI it is still fair game to recruit and you can flip flop all you want.

Although just on his options- as a defensive player, you probably want to go to FSU.  They sent 11 players to the NFL in the draft more than any other school this year and most of the picks were from defense.   A 5 star is almost certain to make  the NFL anyway- short of complete meltdown.

If the guy wants to play for Lane Kiffin, he clearly doesn't have the mental capacity to make his own decisions, so he should probably just listen to his mom.

What? An 18 year old I've never met doesn't want to play for the school I root for? OUTRAGE!
