(Cleveland Magazine)   So what about those reports the media passed on about the naked girls on leashes in the back yard? Stick them in the file with the "12 dead" in Boston Marathon explosions and anything else CNN said that entire week   (clevelandmagazine.blogspot.com) divider line 30

"Someone said it, so we report it."

And yet, the *NEXT* time they report something, we'll all believe it.

Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect.

On 9/11 there was a car bomb at the State Department, a fire on the Washington Mall, Mossad agents arrested with a truck-full of explosives, and there was even a third plane coming towards the WTC

When big stories break we tend to go all apeshiat and see what we want to see. We lose the perspective of the unbiased eye. Its not that hard to understand why. This case has angered many. Hell, even I feel like I wanted to cry. But we need to make sure that on stories that tug on our emotions are properly vetted before reported as fact.

That's never going to properly fill air time and sell ad space.

ah bullshiat, the time honoured tradition of people trying to get on TV.

See person in the other thread doubting me with my link and data?  Now it's a headline on Fark.  Believe me now?

Sheesh.  ;o)

But really, they did say they scoured the records but were these calls coming in on the 911 line where they would have to be recorded or did the people simply call the non-emergency number, the note get written down and thrown away?

I don't know how the non-emergency number works as far as recording, records, etc.

This is why I get all my news from Fark.....

2013-05-09 01:25:51 PM
Hey, it's only information about actual news (as opposed to the infotainment they usually disseminate). Getting it right is secondary to getting it FIRST. And it should be a little sexy. So, girls on leashes it is!

The station I used to work at recorded the non-emergency ones, too, as a CYA measure. Most people overestimate the severity of their situation, but some do underestimate and choose to call the non-emergency line.

It is one thing to report what turns out to be erroneous information during the time of crisis because there is so much chaos going on. In this situation, there is no reason to run with details that aren't verified.

Thank you very much for answering that.  Knowledge +1

I will attempt to return the favor at another time when I find what's important to you.

How come if I were to do what CNN did during the last few tragedies, I would be sued for libel.  But because its CNN they are somehow immune to being punished for making up their own facts.

During the latest school shooting a man was sent various death threats online and, at one point had to be taken into protective custody for his own safety because CNN falsely accused him of being the school shooter...  How in the hell is CNN not able to be sued for this.

Making up news is no longer monopolized by Fox.....this is a sad day.

If you're talking about the ones I saw on TV, I'd bet everything I have on 911, under theory they wouldn't remember anything more complicated.

Yeah but FOX has political motivations.
CNN is motivated by desperation/money/incompetence.

FTFA: Most local news outlets, notably The Plain Dealer, look good today for not publishing the neighbors' tales. Amid competitive pressure to match bigger news outlets, they trusted their own skepticism.

That's their farking job. No self-congratulatory pat on the back has been earned here. I can remember when newspapers mocked tabloid blather rather than emulating it.

Well, the difference is Fox always makes up News in a single direction to drive a narrative.  CNN just relays anything and everything they have heard or imagined with the hopes that perhaps one of them might be partially true.

But I digress, I really came to the thread to see if there was any help on what naked girls on leashes might look like...

Yeah, not surprised here. I could somewhat believe the first stories, but when it got up to "Naked women on leashes" I figured someone was trying a little too hard to get on TV.

Do some research.  There WAS a van full of Mossad agents that filmed the second plane (sand presumably the first plane) hit.   They busted a fake moving company that was a Mossad front and deported them to Israel.
