That's rude.  The preferred PC nomenclature is "mentally challenged."

Voting irregularities? You mean somebody actually voted?

This is a bigger scandal than Benghazi.

My wife loves that show. I end up watching it with her. It a decent show. The judges don't crap on anyone and honestly try and help.

The country guy on it is funny, and  Shakira is adorable.

When they first found the voting irregularities, they considered scrambling F-16s to destroy the building the server was hosted in. WHY DIDN'T THEY BLOW THE BUILDING UP? WHY? And of course they forget to mention that a Seal Team was only 18 hours away and could have been there in 3 hours or less.

3rd best show of the night (Behind both NCIS shows).

I don't watch any of these singing shows and am not white knighting The Voice. That doesn't mean subby aint trolling though.

My girlfriend started watching it this season. She loves it too. Honestly it's much better than the other singing reality shows. There's no fake drama between the judges, and none of them are huge dicks or anything. It just seems like they're having a good time, and honestly it makes it much more fun to watch.

The worst part about the show by far is that Carson Daly, after literally decades in broadcasting, still sounds like he won the job by eating more bowls of Count Chocula than anyone else.

Agreed. I don't watch The Voice consistently, but one thing that makes it far more enjoyable than other singing competitions is the judging panel. Adam Levine and Blake Shelton seem like genuinely nice guys and have tremendous charisma in front of the camera. Shakira is a HUNDRED times better to watch than Christina Aguillera (who always came across as a snotty biatch), and Usher has big-time producer credibility and is at least on par with Cee-Lo.

Now compare them to the utter trainwreck that the American Idol panel has become, or the exercise in self-fellation that is the X Factor. It's not even close.

The best judging panel is on The Sing Off.  Actual, credible, non-sensational critiques.  Good show and awesome music, too.

Too bad it's too normal for NBC to continue.

Biggest show of the night if you look at the Adult 18-49 demographic, which is pretty much the only demographic that broadcast advertisers care about.

Agreed but I do miss watching the show for all the bad "you really shouldnt wear that with your current body type" outfits that Christina always tried to pull off. It is like a bad train wreck to see a 5' nothing girl that is holding onto some baby weight try to pull off hot pants and 6" heels.

Nope, still can't care at all.

Agreed. I tried watching it last year and found Christina to unbearable to watch. Shakira is adorable and Usher is a great addition; the man knows his stuff. I think it helps that he pull in talent that for the most part has some performing experience.  They need to steal ryan seacrest  from AI and dont' allow the public to vote.

Reality competition shows are not game shows. Game shows have been regulated ever since the Quiz Show scandals of the 1950s.  Reality shows are NOT game shows so they are regulated by no one.  They can make up the rules as they go along and do whatever the fark they want. If they want to kick their top-vote getter off just because the producers don't like him?  No problem, just fudge the voting totals.  They will never get in trouble for it.

I also remember when some brilliant person decided to buy up 1-866-IDOLS-13 so that when American Idol decided to go to 13 finalists, a call to that line went to a phone sex line.

Someone (I think the NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast) referred to The Voice as

"the singing competition show for people who don't like singing competition shows"

And since I hate those shows, I gave it a shot.

It's great. It doesn't have the same schadenfreude aspect stuff like Idol has. Even when people are terrible, the judges try to give constructive criticism and generally be positive. They also help out the contestants on their team who get voted off after the season!.

I'd even say it's even better this season because

a) Christina Aguilera was a biatch and a diva, and always seemed like she had somewhere better to be
b) Cee-Lo, while massively entertaining, always seemed high not amazingly strategic or invested.

Usher and Shakira are both funny, engaged, and doing well.

I came here to mock this show and everyone involved (having never watched it).

Instead, I find a bunch of FARKers having a reasonable discussion about something they enjoy (that isn't beer).

This is weird, it's making me uncomfortable, and I'm leaving.

/Glad there's actually a good singing show out there.

I love and hate The Voice. The wife and I watch it regularly. The judges are great and the music is pretty darn good - I actually downloaded Terry McDermott's cover of 'I want to know what love is.'

My problem with the show is that they make me care, and then the people go and lose... So and so is 30yr old blues singer from Ga whose mother was killed by her father who was raped by aliens and then fed to the sarlac and if she doesnt make it on The Voice she'll be sold to a Mexican druglord and have her eyes torn out and used in an international game of marbles...

I've never liked other ones. American Idol always kinda sucked to me, but my girlfriend loved it so we watched it. Even she gave up after this season.

The Voice actually has good judges. The best part is there's no fake arguments or fights or anything. Usually Adam and Blake will burn each other, and some of them are damn good, but it's all in fun.

I'm not big into reality talent shows, especially ones where the vocalist is made out to be the absolute core of the band. As a musician, it bothers me to think that someone who is born with talent should get more respect than someone who was spent years perfecting their skills on an instrument. You can't teach someone to sing who doesn't already have the ability.

That  being said, I do like The Voice, because the judges are fair, teach them a bit about singing, and the phoniness is kept to a minimum (although every week someone says "this is the best performance ever on The Voice", which you know is BS, because the show cannot possibly be better every episode forever). Note that the people going in for the blind auditions usually already know how to sing, so you don't get some clown in there who's either deluded into thinking he's not tone-deaf or is dressed crazy because he wants to be on TV.

I compare it to American Idol, which I only used to watch for Simon Cowell's cutting down wannabes during auditions, because his brand of cruel truthfulness was fun to watch (there are a lot of people out there who think they can sing but everyone knows they can't and yet noone is honest enough to tell them no, until they get to Simon). Anything after that comes off as 100% farking fake, down to the voting, the stupid music videos where everyone is enjoying their Ford Focuses so much, the weeks where noone is voted off because they want to extend the season an episode. Then of course, there's the 'results' show which is mostly background on these singers, a song performed by an actual professional recording artist, and 20 minutes of BS of them standing there waiting to get voted off. It's just so farking fake and lame and I farking hate it and it clutters up the TV schedule because it's so farking cheap to make compared to shows with actual thought put into them. Most of the 'stars' the show produced were non-starters, with a few huge exceptions.
