Sounds like a baa-aaa-aaa-ad idea to me.

yeah, that works until they decide to give the contract to someone else.  Then what are you supposed to do with two dozen goats and several jars of mint jelly?

This will work for about a year until investors start demanding increased profits.  Half the flights will offer goat curry as a meal, the duty free shop will offer goat cheese and that unused room off of concourse B will see a steady line of men walking in and staying for 15 minutes.

What happens when the goats decide that they can fly?

Cubs fans will do anything to end the curse.

It'll work swimmingly until the goats decide to organize.

This should be more common. I'd do it but my yard isn't big enough to have goats by city law. I have a shed plenty big enough that I could easily make livable for two goats in the winter and more than enough yard space for them to be happy. Probably not enough grass to keep them full but I'd rather buy goat feed than gas for a mower.

The O'Hare goats will be shepherded by the same woman who takes care of the herd in Barrington Hills, Arnold said. The goats will take shelter at night in a trailer or tentlike structure, Arnold said. The contract with Central Commissary Holdings, which expires at the end of 2014, was the lowest bid received by the city, at $19,500, Andolino said.

So the shepherd lady (shepherdess?) will make less than $20k over the next 18 months, for spring to fall work? I wonder how many hours a week that's for.

/not outraged or anything; it may be a fair hourly rate

Fresh kabob stands in the terminals would be awesome.

In Houston the airports make some extra money by baling and selling as hay all the grass that grows in the cleared areas around the runways.

Or, you know, you could hire somebody to herd goats around runways.

Won't the grass be contaminated from all the jet fumes? All the particulate matter that settles out of the air has to go somewhere. Would the airport be liable for any poisoned goats?
