I haven't seen the first one yet. I liked the first two movies of the Raimi trilogy, is this one worth the time?

As lame as the first one was I wouldn't put it past the producers to be using 121 as general wardrobe reference.

Sure looks like she's on a bridge, though.

Well you have to sit through the whole origin story again and there goofy ass lizard guy who has the standard comic book scheme of gassing the city for some reason and I dunno. The Sam Raimi one was better.

Ehh it's a toss-up for me. I liked the actor who played Spider-Man in the newest one, and I also liked that he engineered his own webslingers. I think Spider-Man 2 was better than the newest one though, but that's because Doc Ock was such a great villain.

Good:

The guy playing Spider-Man is much better.
Mechanical webshooters
Emma Stone > Kristen Dunst
Better webslinging SFX (they used a lot of a dude swinging from a mobile crane, versus CGI)
There's an interesting set-up about what really happened to Peter Parker's biological parents.
Smart-ass Spider-Man doesn't sound narcoleptic.
Does a better job playing up Peter Parker's scientific genius

Bad:

Meh villain.
The CGI Lizard was a bit wonky at times.
I preferred the original Uncle Ben over Martin Sheen.
No J. Jonah Jameson.
No Randy Savage (R.I.P Macho Man)

This is a good summary. It's worth a rental at the very least.

There's something about Tobey Maguire that makes me want to punch his face in. Both Green Goblin and Doc Ock were great villains.

On the cover of 122 she's in hot pink. Could be a red herring.

bdub77: There's something about Tobey Maguire that makes me want to punch his face in

Yeah but the "slapstick" in that last film made me wish this guy would get run over by a train too.
And actually, if you cut every "long soulful look" in half in that last film it might actually improve the film a thousandfold.

Oh and the 90 minute origin story where Peter needs to be told I SAW YOUR FACE, I KEEEEEL YOU before he thinks of a mask is kind of annoying

Why can't the studios let the directors do what they were hired to do? It seemed pretty obvious Raimi and Favreau both had the studios so far up their ass they had to paint by numbers instead doing something interesting

I think Raimi should do a new Darkman style film where he gets to create the superhero instead of being ramshackle by existing characters/storylines

I want to kill Spidey in the first act and have Doc Ock be the hero, avenging Peter Parker's death by battling through the underwold against all the other Spidey villians only to discover Venom saved Peter but now he's evil and they have an epic battle in Chinatown where V's finally defeated by a big novely but Doc Ock's mortally wounded and he tells Peter to run before the police show up.

Better than one not as good as two.

This one should be awesome since we got the origin out of the way.

Return Emma to a red head and cast her as MJ!! MJ was never the love of Peter's life, she was just the rebound girl.

I'd agree with that. He's a better Spider-Man than whiney Tobey Macguire anyway, he remembers Spider-Man has a smart-ass attitude, something Tobey never could pull off. But dammit I really didn't need to watch the origin story again. And Sally Field as Aunt May made me feel old.

The Shocker ain't gonna beat the Spidey.
The Spidey is when you put your middle and ring finger inside a girl's egg sac, pointed to the top of her Daily Bugle, and then flick them up and down until she squirts her webbing all over your mask.

I'd applaud this if they decided to troll by putting her in the same outfit and put her in the same situation, but decide not to kill her.

Hell, just watch Andrew Garfield in Red Riding on Netflix Instant, or in The Social Network.  He's a fantastic actor with the right material.

I'll warn you; Red Riding is one of the harshest bits of BBC TV I've ever seen.  it's like L&O:SVU turned to 15.

They were filming a chase scene right outside of my hotel in Rochester last week. Kinda cool to see but kind of a pain in the ass too. Not that its a even barely plot point, but at some point, an Oscorp truck being towed is involved.

FTFA:  Personally, I don't see Gwen's eventual death happening in this installment, but anything is possible.

I'm not sure how someone comes to that conclusion given all the evidence, as well as what the writer himself was talking about concerning why the actress took the role in the first place.

As for the reboot, I thought the idea to start over (or continue, as the case may be) was silly and wrong. The movie itself was better than I expected, but it was pretty pointless as anything other than a cynical cash grab. But that's the way of the world.

The first movie was farking terrible.  The actors had nothing to work with so I don't blame them.  The script was just incredibly awful.

I never like the idea that spidey was a jock level douchbag/smack talking supergenius superhero but still has a strong moral compass and remains fiercely loyal and close to the aunt and uncle that raised him.

Any one of those personality traits seem a bit out of place (superhero not withstanding)?

I thought the "pussy" aspect of him made the character more human...

Please, for the love of all that is sacred, stop going to see Sony made movies based on Marvel IPs. As long as people are giving them money, they'll keep making movies and the rights will never revert to Marvel and we'll all be the poorer for it. Spidey showing up in Avengers would be fan-farking-tastic.

You're a complete moron for even THINKING the latest spider man movie even HAPPENED!

The actor was an emo douche, I didn't care at all about that dog who played MJ, and the entire movie was trying, desperately, to BE the first spider man. it had so much penis-envy over the first one that I was embarrassed that my face could be seen walking out of the theatre.

It should not have been made. There was no reason for its existence.

Raimi's idea for 3 was shiat. There was always going to be the show down between Harry and Peter that was set up over 2 films but screw that Harry now has amnesia. His other idea was the Sandman and retconning the murder of Uncle Ben but we should be conflicted because he has a sick daughter.  The Sandman part of the story is an absolute trainwreck.  The studio told him it was shiat and he should do a Venom and Gwen Stacy instead.

Somehow everyone decided that doing everything together was the answer and none of them were well executed.

It wouldn't work anyway, for the same reason the first Avengers didn't work for me. You've got several interesting characters from vastly different worlds, but they just start hanging out for some reason. They all have interesting stories, but no one gets to hear them. And no, you shouldn't have to watch 3 seperate franchises to know what's going on in one movie.

"Hey, I know. Let's take a billionaire playboy, a Germanic god, a World War II supersoldier, and a scientist who was in an accident that gives him attacks of homicidal rage that he can't control, except that in this case, he can. Then, we'll put them all in a room, and have them make catty exchanges at each other a la the deleted scenes in Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

It works in the comics, but not as a film series. It was 2 and a half hours of a 10-year old asking "Who do you think would win in a fight, this guy or this guy?"

Adding Spider-Man wouldn't add anything to that series, as there wasn't much to add to. It'd be no more than a chance for the audience to say "Hey look, it's Spider-Man."

Coz if they don't make a Spidey film every x amount of years, they lose the rights. It's in the contract somewhere.

The cgi Lizard was craptastic.
