Wife's cousin had a house he's fixing up gutted for copper. He figured the amount of time they spent for the amount of copper they got was close to minimum wage.

I don't think a real job would help this guy.  No one wants to hire giant briquette.

One Fayette County man is dead after he and an accomplice tried to steal copper wire by shooting down high-tension power lines with a rifle, authorities said

And nothing of value was lost. Time for a West Virginia tag?

Buy local, buy USA.  Don't give your money to the international drug cartels.  Every dollar you spend on your local cook is a dollar he can spend in the local economy.  Keeps people employed.  I call this the trickle up effect.

How dare you insult George Norrie like that. Coast to Coast AM is not JUST the result of a drug-addled binge, it's a STAPLE of night shifters everywhere!

Without "Bigfoot Probed my anus while the shadow people watched" people, your life would be pathetic in comparison!

You want them on that UFO! You NEED them on that UFO!

couple of genius brothers in wifes hometown ignored warning signs galore, scaled several fences to get up onto some power plant equipment where they came in contact with the wrong wire. morans were nearly killed, lost toes, hospital galore.

they sued successfully and had a windfall of big cash. pissed it all away on hot rods and drugs. few years later one of those assholes killed a guy for a little bag of weed, did a few years for it. pure scum.

High tension power lines aren't copper. Copper stretches if pulled under high tension. IIRC high tension is steel reinforced aluminum.

There's always the "shoot it and find out" version of discovery which apparently was their method.

I believe our society has come to the point where the benefit of allowing boobytraps outweighs the costs of the occasional "innocent" being caught in one.

Ohm my, that must have been an electrifying experience!

It's going to be a leetle harder for some people here in my city in June.  The state of Tennessee decided that the unemployment office in Nashville can handle any unemployment requests in Johnson City.  If anyone wants to go and sit in it to use the computers there to look for a job, they have a long way to drive.

Then there's the website which apparently no longer will allow applications to be saved an entire year.  And people have to re-fill one for every job entry.

Ah, knowing a private business tech guy that works on the computers in the unemployment office, and on the servers for the website as needed.

People will work amazingly hard at not working,

My observation when I was working loss prevention. The shoplifters were doing everything I was doing....except I got to go home at the end of the day and they often did not.

I believe that high tension cables have a copper core, with a steel semi-conducting surrounding weave to support the weight of the cable between towers.

Are you sure they weren't aluminum? It's a decent conductor and it's cheaper and lighter than copper. It was even used for residential AC wiring in some older buildings (like mine).

2013-05-09 02:47:00 AM
Clearly we all just need to head outside and shoot down some power lines to see what they are made of. I know my home's copper connects to aluminum so we need to go after the big ones waaaay up there. Irresponsible gun owners, HEAD OUT, AND REPORT BACK!

/ don't, I'm pretty sure that's a federal crime.
