This is what the GOP has done to itself. They've made it their essential raison detre to simlpy oppose Obama. It's a goal in and of itself.

2013-05-08 05:11:27 PM
Pretty sure they just want Obama to rob a 7 Eleven in a wifebeater so they can jack off to the security footage.

The demands:

1) Repeal Obamacare
2) Resign over Benghazi scandal
3) Admit that he's a foreign born Muslim whose true allegiance is to Allah

Then MAYBE they'll give a little on this whole debt limit thing.

They want to cut non-defense spending until all programs that benefit the poor and middle class cease to exist, and the Chamber of Commerce doesn't have to go overseas to find a cheap, desperate labor pool.

They don't want anything pertinent or constructive or useful that will help fix the country.

They just wanna be in charge. They want to call the shots. And they will fling poo at Obama until they are.

America is a burning building. Obama has a hose. The Republicans are standing on it and blaming him for not putting the fire out.

If that is a McCarthy reference, I still stand by my statement.

And if it isn't a McCarthy reference, and is instead a reference to a Letterman Top Ten, please continue!

For everyone who's been whining "ERRRMERGERD!!! NO BUDGET!!!" this is why.
The "budget", which is useless and unenforceable, will be doubly useless when this rolls around.
But, hey, it let the R's pretend like they were upset about something and allowed the droolers root for "putting it to the blah guy."

From an article linked in the O:
Instead, they are considering forcing the Democrats to go along with them on tax reform. Jonathan Chait had some fun with this by noting that the main difference between the parties on tax reform is that Republicans insist on revenue-neutral tax reform while Democrats want net revenue increases, which means that Republicans would be threatening to default the nation unless Democrats ... agree to larger deficits.

It is what the GOP has been doing since Obama came into office. Obstruct and then blame the black guy.

LouDobbsAwaaaay: If Obama had any stones at all, he'd be holding an online contest for what to put on the $1T coin.

I'm not so sure he doesn't get serious about the debt not being questioned this time around.

OTOH, the derpers got slapped around pretty good by the money folks in the GOP in 2012, so that dynamic might have changed things.

2013-05-08 07:16:54 PM
I started thinking about this. I thought about how they want to reform use this to threaten to reform the tax code, something Obama said he wanted to do with Republicans years ago.

I realized this is not primarily to force Obama to do things. It's actually being used to give them an excuse to be able to work with Obama on things without the Tea Party beating them up for it.

If they went "We want to work with Obama on such and such" then the Tea Party would attack them for working with Obama. However if they say "We are threatening Obama to do such and such and we need to approve it" then the Tea Party thinks it's ok.

Think about. That's what they are doing. They are too afraid to work with Obama because of what the crazy righties would think so they have to put it in a context of a threat so they will find co-operation acceptable.

It's really very very sad.

Duh.  They want Obama GONE.  And they want Democrats GONE.

That's IT.

Dusk-You-n-Me: Republicans Are Blocking Budget Negotiations Because The Debt Limit Is Too Far Away

so they want a balanced budget?
because if you cant raise revenue and you cant increase the debt limit, the ONLY OPTION IS NET ZERO (surplus? LOL)

2013-05-08 07:28:58 PM
The debt limit hostage-taking idiocy should have only happened once as part of that first agreement over raising the debt limit should have been a change so that raising the nation's debt limit can't be held hostage ever again.

I'm sick of this crap. Call their bluff, and let the cards fall where they may.

Just another GOP-manufactured crisis.

2013-05-08 07:32:36 PM
This "sequester" nonsense is the best thing that has ever happened to Obama. Obama gets to reduce the deficit this year while assigning the resulting pain to the disintegrating Republicans. Thanks, Tea Party.

Considering the US deficit just went down 32%, due to revenues on higher taxes - the GOP doesn't have much to hold in terms of holding the debt ceiling hostage.

Everyone knows those are just Obama's cuts to Medicare and the Death Panels finally getting implemented in states that set up insurance exchanges, as per Obamacare.

That presupposes that there is a sane contingent left within the GOP, which I'm not willing to give the benefit of the doubt.
