See what Jefferson was taling about there was ideas.  Fearing the people because a good 1/3 of them are batshiat crazy conservatives isn't what he had in mind. All of us, not just the government, are afraid when a chimpanzee plays hand grenades.

Remember, covertly selling weapons to our enemies then using the funds to support notoriously vicious goon squads with a penchant for rape and indiscriminate slaughter is NOT as  scandalous as saying an attack was motivated by a film when it was eventually shown not to be a factor.*  In fact, the latter is TEN TIMES WORSE!!1!

/this is what Republicans actually believe.

* at least, I think that's the scandal.  Outraged FARKers habitually avoid answering when you ask them.

I find it a pretty authoritarian country, myself. Most folks just don't see it though, they've spent so long in the matrix they can't imagine life without it. Not sure about the left-right distinction, I honestly don't know what that's supposed to mean anymore.

Not to mention in those eight years you were "unpatriotic" if you said anything against the guy with an R next to his name. Funny how that changes when a D enters into the picture.

I try to treat people the way I want to be treated. It's a good rule.

So no need to make fun of Ollie. No need to stoop to Fox's level.

We all know what happened Benghazi and that should be enough.

We could use a little maturity around here.

Really?  No one back then cared about fiscal responsibility or the over-reach of the federal government?
States rights wasn't an issue back then either?

Do the pages of the history books you read require you to use crayons to color the pictures?

North specifically singled out Ambassador Thomas Pickering and Admiral Mike Mullen, who headed the review, and accused them of lacking "integrity."

Oh, yes...memories...

When the Dixie Chicks (mildly) dissed W, outraged 'Mericans threw all their DC stuff in a pile and ran over it, or burned their stuff, or threw it away.  In general, had a prolonged hissy fit.

Then, when Ted Nugent calls the President a tyrant, a Nazi, and a bajillion other things of that nature, lib piled up all his stuff and-  Oh, wait.  None of that happened.

But you know what they say...

To be fair, Nugent's body of work is owned solely by people unable to read, write, or form logical coherent thoughts.  If you find any Nugent fans, treat them nicely, they've had a hard life and they're just doing the best they can.

Isn't Obama jusr re-iterating what that "Jefferson" quote is saying?

TJ: People fear govt = tyranny
BO: (To citizens) Reject those who tell you to fear the govt = agents of tyranny

Not sure why a teabagger would think that quote was a bad thing for Obama

God, rightards are bad at analogies. Besides the word "tyranny" they're not even talking about the same thing.

Jefferson warns to be wary of tyranny.
Obama warns not to listen to those that see tyranny everywhere.

It's one thing to be cautious, another to be paranoid.

JolobinSmokin: Fark independents are coming out of the woodwork.

It is in so far as most people think of themselves as center right, even if their views aren't.

Hell, I'm one of em. I'd love to see the US implement an NHS style single payer system, I'm firmly pro-choice, and I'm incredibly proud of the fact that my flyover home state allows gays to be married. Suck on that, California!

(Okay, that may have not been the best phrase to use there.)

But I also hold that the second amendment is as sacrosanct as the first. If I gave birth I certainly wouldn't be in favor of aborting my own child, but the qualifier at the beginning of this sentence makes it pretty obvious I shouldn't be the one deciding on the matter. And I'm a fiscal conservative, although I tend to believe more in investments for future growth like STEM education and infrastructure improvements.

So yeah, I'd describe myself as center-right. Mostly to the people I work with, because it's easier than arguing about Benghazi.

I'd also consider the current crop of GOP media whores to be nothing more but regressive reactionaries. They are Harold Hill made flesh, hawking neat little packets of fear and outrage to the rural communities that make up so much of this country's square footage.
