I could see someone paying handsomely for one of those set pieces, the moisture evaporators look to be holding up really well.

Is there a reason they didn't tear down the set?

It was so remote, they just said "fark it"?

I wonder if the green screens used in the new movies will be preserved for generations.

Like, 40 years from now some guy will be digging through a dumpster and find a giant, 50 foot green carpet from Lucasfilm....

I thought these locations were Tunisia's main tourist attraction.  I know my dad visited it when he went there, like a decade ago.

You'd think they'd have kept it up.

I bet Hobbiton in New Zealand has been maintained.

All the way to Tunisia and then across the desert for 6 pictures? What happened? Run out of batteries? Didn't bring enough film? Didn't have another memory card?

Looks like, since then, a group went out, rebuilt the Lars Homestead "igloo" in concrete and erected a historic marker on the site. So it'll be there for a while.

That's actually unfortunate, in a way.  I could see those being a cool setting for the next three movies (which I'll go see even though they won't be REAL star wars movies.  Because I'm too weak willed to resist.  FML.)

Diptychs? Black-and-white anagogic prints? I think these photos were taken in 1952 with a brownie. (The desert, not the camera.)

The igloo for the Lars Homestead is not the original. That was the one built for "Attack of the Clones." I only know tis for sure because I had read an article where they stated they went back to the original site and had to rebuild the dome.

Capt Vader also sailed the Death Star into an iceberg (where is split into two pieces) because he was upset about not being able to find his sled.

Then he died but came back to life to save some whales.

That's probably from Episode 2, not 4   They shot the exteriors in Tunisia for that movie as well.

whatshisname: Don't they have to clean that shiat up when they're done?

Apparently not. I read an article back in the 90s where this archeologist went and found all these sites. Said the "garbage" locate right outside the cantina was still there twenty years later. He also found the skeleton of the krayt dragon that Threepio stood in front of. He did take a little chunk off of it and had it made into a key ring.

In some behind the scenes they said some of those "igloos" were the actual homes to some people and some interiors are from some hotel. And some years ago i watched some news reporter who went there and then he entered one home, showed everything and when it was time to walk away he noted the big kobra at the door

Nope, there is nothing to see.  They ask you to pay a farking fortune and all you will see is a few mounds of paddock. No houses, no fences or structures of any kind.

Was that before or after he took the group of oil drillers to that asteroid to keep it from hitting the planet, and accidentelly breaking the nuke, so he had to manually set it off?  That's how, (I think), he wound up in that body armor..
