Dude's 6'4", it's tough when you're that tall to do certain things, including trying to fit your frame into chairs made for you little people.

Weird, the chairs on the Enterprise all have low backs.

Ok I'm probably a noob for asking this and will gladly take the ridicule but is this for real? I will have to check these tonight

As a 6'9" Star Trek fan, I got a kick out of watching that. Don't know why I never noticed, because I do so many similar things. Well played, Frakes.

2nded.  anything to improve airflow.

Ok, everyone knows about the nipple piercings right?   Frakes had them then, which was unusual.   In the rare eps where he appears shirtless, he has *no nips*.

100% real.  They all look like small chairs that are in relatively confined spaces and it really can be quite difficult to swing your frame into such a chair in a normal fashion.

DrowningLessons: As a 6'9" Star Trek fan,

I'm guessing then that you know what I'm talking about.  I'm only 6'3" and skinny ("lanky" is a common descriptor) and this is a regular problem for me.

Thanks, that makes it that much more amusing considering how smooth he did all of it with the viewer not noticing.

This is what I love about TNG so much. All the characters have little quirks and mannerisms that make them unique and memorable.

2013-05-08 02:27:55 PM
Possibly a good way to not have to do the Picard Maneuver every time you sit down.

He also lead the way with his shoulder as if he was constantly having to squeeze through a small opening.

I never noticed this habit before, and I've seen every episode of TNG. Except for the Deana's mom episodes.

The guy really hates pulling his seat forward when he sits.

I'm pretty sure you can catch Data doing that on a number of occasions as well. I remember thinking that it was odd for a character who is supposed to be an Android to do.

Brent Spiner is only 5'11" so I'm wondering if those chairs were just too low for them to sit in quickly without looking awkward on TV, so that was the solution.

Ha! Of course, in reality, the auto-destruct console would have a little slider bar at the bottom that you'd have to swipe first, to prevent accidental butt-destroying.

My wife and I met Frakes in a hotel lobby once.  He took a pic w us and I can't say enough about what a great impression he left us with.  He was just an awesome guy.  When I spotted him we were a little nervous approaching him but then he started doing all the talking and had us laughing our asses off the whole time.  My wife (as a joke) said "you're the guy from 'fact or fiction', right?" and he immediately started doing dramatic quotes straight from it.  It was an awesome experience. Frakes is good people.

CSB....

He also used to open shopping malls dressed as Captain America (pre-TNG).

The thing I always noticed about Ryker was that he got really really stiff as the show progressed because they had him in a full body corset to cover up his fat....

Space junk, surely. And also, someone who notices this and makes the time to compile it probably spends their evenings penning slash fic.

And by penning, I mean masturbating to ST:TNG.

/make it so.

Smidge204: EvilEgg: /And Riker likes airing out his junk

One minute they're sitting around the campfire singing and BOOM there's a giant version of Commander Riker trying to smother them all with his stadium-sized scrotum. I made sure to fake a door lockout too, so they were trapped in there for hours looking at Riker's taint and trying to breathe around his ball bag.

=Smidge=

Oh, hell, that was funny...."TRIPLE MILKSHAKE!"

I liked the TNG Riker but not the movies Riker. Same actor, different character I think.

Just tried mimicking that move.. doesn't work worth a shiat on a high-back office chair that comes up to your chest.  Even if I somehow cleared it, I'm sure the armrests would have ruined it.

I actually noticed this myself - every time I go to a bar, instead of pulling the barstool away from the bar, I lift my leg over, and I always (ALWAYS) think of RIker when I do it.

Also... whenever I'm at a curb waiting for the crosswalk to change, I imagine I'm Kirk materializing on the ENTERPRISE in ST:TMP - I step off the curb as if I'm stepping off the transporter platform.

No shame, but no life.

Frakes' head is *always* tilted to one side....and not just a little.  Once noticed...well, it's basically all I see when he's in a scene.

Same with George Clooney....when he's reciting a line his head bobbles back and forth and that's all I can see.

Of course, there are certain actresses with specific traits that block out everything else.  I don't mind those.

I'm guessing that's deliberate 100% by the director, given his height you'd have to have him lean alot so character positioning doesn't look weird.

2013-05-08 04:16:12 PM
Funny -- never noticed. I do that a lot. I've done a couple swing the leg forward sittings for giggles in the past (which I learned on a tandem bike when I kicked my kid in the head pulling a Riker).
