Gonna go back in time....

Seventy-nine percent of those voters said they approved of Gov. Barbour's job performance, while 74% said they had a favorable opinion of Sarah Palin, and 73% viewed Huckabee favorably.

Wait?  Didn't Sarah Palin have a fling with Glen Rice?  Well, I guess she didn't marry him so that's ok.

To be fair, it was 46% of republican's in Mississippi, not all of Mississippi.

Although, since that would be 46% of probably 70-75%, that still leaves it at probably around 30% of the state.   And probably not a large % in cities, so, you are looking at probably over 50% in the rural areas agreeing with that.

And people are shocked that there are cities down south that still have separate black and white prom's.

In February, a Gallup poll found that Mississippi was the most conservative state in the nation. In that survey, 50.0% of adults identified themselves as conservatives.

Isn't it one of the most poorest and uneducated states in the US too? Also a state that takes some of the most federal funds?

Social conservativism and fiscal prudence are not inextricably linked.  In fact, many "morality first" types are complete idiots with money, as evidenced by the fact that so much of it goes to large megachurches.

And is there more recent data?

If so, does it show a marked decrease in the number of Mississippi Republicans who oppose interracial marriage?

If you can't provide newer data, then the most recent data is all we have to go by.

And that data shows that a plurality of Mississippi Republicans are racists.

coeyagi: 2008 National Education Rankings

I keep seeing this but what are those scores based on, what is the source, since the NEA does not rank states by republican or democrat. Is 1 the best, or the worst?  What does it refer to? SAT scores, graduation rates, higher degrees? Methinks you pulled it out of your ass, since the NEA or the census do format statistics like that. Oh, and here are some links to actual education rates, that lead me to believe yours are complete BS.

I have considered creating a PAC or SuperPAC with the explicit mission statement of "Protecting traditional marriage". It would have a website and donation links and, upon amassing sufficient funds, would purchase advertising (television, billboards and other applicable methods) calling for a fight against the judicial redefinition of marriage in spite of public opposition that occurred in Loving v. Virginia.

If asked for comment, I would reply only, "Problem?"

It's a shame, really, because interracial marriage is probably their best shot at getting a full complement of chromosomes into the gene pool.

It is possible that a plurality of people (of either party) in Mississippi are racists.

Can't find specific data for Mississippi, but the nationwide numbers are 12% of Democrats and 23% of Republicans do not approve of inter-racial marriage.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/149390/record-high-approve-black-white-ma rr iages.aspx

It's higher among Republicans, but it's certainly not completely restricted to Republicans.

The good news? "Today's older Americans, those aged 50 and older, are much more likely to approve of black-white marriage than people of the same age a generation ago; 78% today vs. 27% in 1991, a 51-point shift."

I saw two gay men together the other day.  The were both white, had the same haircut and dressed the same.  It didn't seem natural I tell you.  You shouldn't be allowed to look just like your spouse.  One should have to wear a hat or something.  Just saying.

Interesting that I can't find a single non-white face anywhere in either of those pictures.

I'll bet the people in the top half of that picture agree with the sentiments of the people in the bottom half.
