I'm surprised the Post isn't reporting 12 women were held captive for 10 years.

AND the Post does it again by posting a picture of the son instead of the father. Way to go professional journalists!

Tied to the three is a girl, a girl with supernatural powers born in captivity.... She shall be the one.... the one to rule them all.
Or she will be a hooker serial killer

Neighbors said they called cops two years ago when they saw a naked woman crawling around Castro's back yard - but officers dismissed it as a prank.

Another call was reportedly made when neighbors saw three girls crawling on all fours with nothing but dog leashes around their necks, according to USA Today. They said police never responded to their call.

A resident said he called police a third time, in 2011, when his sister heard pounding on their window and looked up to see a woman outside with a baby. When the cops came, they found nothing and left, the neighbor said.

But the Cleveland Police Department said cops were dispatched to the home only twice over the past 13 years, never in relation to the missing girls.  They first came in 2000, when Ariel reported a fight in the street, the Cleveland PD said, and returned in 2004 after Ariel left a child unattended on a bus. But no one came to the door during that visit, and the cops simply left.

Let's hear it for the Cleveland law enforcement officers for saving the day!

The real outrage is going to set in if someone can prove that the Cleveland PD did, in fact, blow off multiple 911 calls that would have alerted them to this horrorshow earlier.  Ugh.

The incompetence of the officers reminds me when I hear what sound like obvious gunshots coming from the wooded area behind my house. The police don't even bother to investigate when we call it in, they just say it's probably some kids lighting firecrackers.

Some day they are probably going to find like 40 bodies buried in the woods back there.

How many threads do Farkers biatch about unlawful searches and dogs being killed by reckless S.W.A.T. teams? Now, we're going to go the other direction and say that a cop should treat every call like a possible child abduction?  We have no idea how many prank or stupid calls that police departments receive where they waste their time and our money investigating bullshiat. We need to blame the folks who call 911 because the manager at Burger King won't super size their meal or the woman who calls because her daughter cursed at her. Int he story of the Boy who cried wolf, we didn't blame the townsfolk for being slow to respond. We blamed the boy who was carelessly alerting them for no reason.

I am assuming there was a good amount of time spent late into Monday night and Tuesday morning as Cleveland PD searched and cleansed their records

There's a difference between unlawful search and following up on a call to police about women on leashes in someone's backyard. In the case of the sounds I've heard in my neighborhood, I can understand if the cops have seen evidence of firecrackers or know some kids that go back there for that purpose. On the other hand, you better damn well investigate something like women on leashes.

So did I. Look at it another way and it's "Damn cops harass poor people unreasonably because someone heard a scream somewhere." And I'm not 100% believing in all of these stories -- people always like to see "signs" of something like this in retrospect. Screams, possibly seeing someone at a window? I can believe that. Women on leashes in the yard? Well .... it could happen.

You have no idea what steps they took to investigate or follow up on this claim. For all we know, they positioned a squad car in the area to keep watch. They may have increased patrols. Or, in the absence of an immediate follow-up call or complaint, they may have thought it was a neighbor complaining about consensual activity that was visible, but taking place on another man's private property.

Now you may be right but they certainly didn't follow up with the people who reported it, and it would certainly appear they in fact did nothing.

This ain't exactly a "nice" part of Cleveland.  I am sure they didn't have spare offices to stake out reports of a woman on a leash.  They've got a barrage of robberies and shootings to deal with.  Probably how subtle things like what these lunatics pulled off can slip under the radar.

Well from the rep ...

These are the same people who ACTUALLY LIVE in the neighborhood where the house is and they all also said on the first day after this came out that it was a complete surprise and they were totally shocked that there were three girls inside. They also continue to interact with him after seeing a little girl in his attic window? Where was the follow up of the neighbors? And if this was totally shocking to the people who lived next to the house for ten years it should locigally tell you that he had them hidden pretty well and not much outside of a warrent and search of the house was going to find those girls. But, the police presumably did not have probable cause.

Brain scans too.  There's already research been done on both fronts.  This neuroscientist studied PET scans of normal people and violent psychopaths and found correlations between neural structures and behavior.  The kicker: his family tree had some bad, violent folks, including Lizzy Borden, so he was talked in to checking his immediate family's PET scans.  The scientist found his scan to look just like that of a serial killer's, as did several genes that have been associated violence.

Nature and nuture both can have profound effects on a person's development and adult behavior.   With advances in genetics and neuroscience, maybe we'll be able to identify a young one's natural tendency or susceptibility to ill-behavior and deliberately manage their *nuture*  to steer them away from the dark side.

I don't know for sure, of course, but if the babies born there died after they were born alive due to the fact that there was no doctor or facility available, that might not be considered first degree murder but should be negligence homicide.

However, I would prefer that they do not get the death penalty, instead gets lifelong rape in prison

While I see your point about the calls to which the police chose to respond, it would be nice if they had responded to all of them.

They responded, no one answers at a seemingly vacant house, no woman on a leash in the back yard.  What do you want them to do at that point?  Get a warrant?

Should I repeat my previous post, or will you just continue to pretend they responded to every call?

Every call or any call, the question is : What do you want the cops to do when the show up at a house with a report of some kind of activity and find no signs of it.  No one answers the door.  What should happen at this point that would have saved these girls sooner?

As a former 911 dispatcher, I can say that you actually put this very well.

Then again, I was in a small rural town, and you can bet that, there, every cop in the the county would have been surrounding that house on the first report of a naked woman being seen outside.

Or it could be that whole nurture thing.  But since the brothers should share about 25% common DNA among all three, it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out which is the sociopath gene, right?

Granted there's alot of assumptions being made here... many probably inaccurate, but with some it's hardwired into the brain from birth and 'treatment' is largely ineffective as they simply do not experience the world the same way.  It's a fairly small percentage of the population.  A lot of these monsters grew up in fairly average homes and families and with normal siblings.  And on the flip, most broken homes do not create monsters.  More and more recent studies find complex genetic connections to mental ailments.  To have 3 from one immediate family I think is very interesting.

The daughter's mental illness is also interesting to note.  Definitely worth a case study.

So yesterday you heard plenty of neighbors stating they couldn't believe it, but then people for years have been calling into the police about stuff detailed in the article?  No neighbor talks to any other neighbor about this?

Our man Charles Ramsey was shocked as hell and he lived right there and BBQ'd with the guy (and listened to salsa music)!  He obviously didn't hesitate to come to the rescue when he saw what he saw.  He's clearly an approachable guy.  Nobody ever said, "Hey Chuck, we think there's some pretty crazy shiat going on in that house that you better watch out for."

I'll happily admit I was wrong if it turns out there are records of these calls and the police failed to respond accordingly, but right now I have to think BS.  Either the situation was such that people saw things on numerous occasions and cared enough to call the police but in turn never said a word to any of their neighbors, or these claims are BS.

I won't belabor the issue, because you certainly have a point, and hindsight is indeed 20/20. And I don't really blame the police themselves. But if the police were in fact called about suspicious activity on multiple occasions, your department better reexamine the way you analyze incoming data and perform police work. It is certainly possible that neighbors who called in the activity in fact saw it occur multiple times and presumed that the police had already investigated it. Some additional investigation is warranted in any case, not to hold police responsible, but to find ways they can prevent tragedies like this from happening in the future.

It doesn't surprise me at all.

The abused can become abusers themselves later in life, sometimes as a result of their nature (genetic propensity to violent mental illness) or nurture (raised to view abuse and violence as "normal" or is damaged as a result of the abuse). Sometimes it's a bit of both.

There is no profit in rescuing broke people.

That was what I was going to say but you're absolutely right in this case.  We're only getting one side and, because it's PWGS, we're setting all sympathies to them.

If it turns out that there were, in fact, no calls made to 911 or that those calls were not of the nature described then I suppose our emotions would be wasted and we'd feel foolish afterward.

More like pondering out loud.  It's joined with host of related ethical dilemmas that we'll have to face as our knowledge of and ability to manipulate genetics and neuroscience increase.  Issues with the present ability to test for a genetic tendency to develop Alzheimer's (the Doc knows, but should he tell you, for example) are trivial compared what's on the horizon.

Parent knows they have a family history of psychosis and violence, should they get their kid tested?  Maybe they did and ignored it - could they be found liable later when their adult offspring eats the livers out of school children?

Is it going to be a miracle when the years and years of therapy these women are going to need finally get them to a point where they can fall asleep without crying, or be hugged by another human being without their flesh crawling? Is that all part of God's miracle?

Same thing I thought yesterday when I googled the address and street viewed it I suddenly realized "holy crap they are in there right now in the picture".
Also I've seen some news reports saying "oh my god some of the windows were boarded up why did no one go in because of this". From looking at the street it would have been suspicious to not have some boarded up windows.

DROxINxTHExWIND: TheDirtyNacho: DROxINxTHExWIND: RatOmeter: TheDirtyNacho: DNA sequencing of these guys' genome should be done.  Amazing that 3 brothers seem to have the same sociopathic nature.  Perhaps one day we can spot these people before they're born...

Hope you're both joking.

/"Minority Report"

A fictional story about mutants who can see the future is not the same as genetic screening and diversion into programs that keep an eye on them.

The world will remove from itself a lot of trouble once we have a better grasp on the genetics of mental illness and can spot it ahead of time.

Not to Godwin this, but I wonder how many Jews would be on the "danger" list if a Hitler-run government were responsible for intepreting the data?

I think there's a big difference between genetic screening and eugenics, but it should be backed up with pretty ironclad ethics rules.  Today it's possible to screen for some highly disabling problems and then, if the parents so choose, selectively abort.  But I don't think this should be applied to most issues, definitely not mental health ones.   I'd rather keep an eye on people.

Like much technology, it can be used for great good... or great evil.

mayIFark: thurstonxhowell: Danger Mouse: I hope they get the death penalty.

AFAIK, they didn't kill anybody, so no death penalty for them.

I don't know for sure, of course, but if the babies born there died after they were born alive due to the fact that there was no doctor or facility available, that might not be considered first degree murder but should be negligence homicide.

However, I would prefer that they do not get the death penalty, instead gets lifelong rape in prison

These sick f#ckers should die in the most painful way possible. Lock them up in a condemned building infested with rats and put the key and some food just out of reach. They have plenty of water, but it's just to prolong their suffering. After four weeks of starving, four weeks of breathing Fiberglass filled air, four weeks of enduring rats tearing their flesh, four weeks of maggots and cockroaches crawling through their wounds, they'll finally slump over, dead. But all of that will be paradise compaired to what awaits them in hell.

bdub77: Neighbors said they called cops two years ago when they saw a naked woman crawling around Castro's back yard - but officers dismissed it as a prank.

The 911 calls are just as bad.  The girl made a call and the neighbor made a separate call.  In both calls the 911 operators basically dismissed them saying, "we'll call police" and then ended the call.  Amazing.

Why is it genetic?  The larger the group, the more sociopathy can take hold; that's why it's called sociopathy.  Lone gunmen have a hard time carrying out Lidices and My Lais.  And unfortunately, group crimes -- I-bank grand larceny, date rapes by the Alpha jocks, war crimes -- get more apologists than spree killers or serial rapists ("these are lies spread by those who hate our people/player haters!").

Paradoxically, the group participants in crime will often blame a lone individual for the crimes, e.g. Germans after 1945: "yes, terrible things happened, but Hitler did them, and he's dead now, so we're good, right?"

Note to self, if I spot women on leashes in the neighbors yard, I will report someone smoking doobage instead. The PD will then roll with battle tanks and fury, kill everyone and those poor girls will be put out of their misery.

If it was just one or two calls, maybe, but there was a pattern. Naked women, women signaling from inside, etc. When you get four or five calls to the same property and all seem to relate to some woman being abused inside that house, at some point you have to do more than just knock on the door and leave when nobody comes out. Of course nobody is going to come out, you're being called to a home where a woman was paraded naked on a dog leash in the yard, or where a woman was seen frantically banging on a window trying to get out. One point makes a dot, two points make a line.

I really hate to say it, but I kind if thought the same thing.

If I see a woman on a leash in my neighbor's yard being controlled and treated badly, I'm going to make damn well sure she wants to be there.

MutantMotherMouse: chairmenmeow47: GreenSun: I feel sorry for the girl who gave birth to her rapist's daughter. That must be an awful feeling, to be impregnated by someone you don't love yuck! I wonder how the daughter will be treated. In this situation, it wouldn't be strange if she gave the kid up for adoption because most likely the kid will remind her of years of torture and fear.

i can't even imagine.  still though, i imagine such a situation created a bond that the mother probably would not want to break.  she probably has been protecting this kid for 6 years.  why would she stop?  or just have escaped without the kid?

Yeah, I suspect she risked an escape attempt for her daughter. I doubt the fact that one of those monsters fathered the little girl kept her any safer than the other hostages. I'm not an especially brave person and may not be able to protect myself, but I'd do whatever it took to save my children.

I sadly suspect that she risked an escape attempt now because she feared the brother's would start molesting her daughter (if they haven't already).

This reminds me of that freaky CSI episode where the teen daughters BF kills the parents and the brothers in a family, but not her younger sister. Turns out the Dad was molesting the teen daughter since childhood and the mom and brothers where in on it, and the "little sister" was actually the incestuous daughter of the teen and Dad... and the Dad was starting to molest the "little sister".

/Lots of therapy all around
//Asshat should have been put in jail when he almost killed his ex-wife, would have prevented all of this.

It's amazing but based on the time of some of these comments it's apparent that they don't watch the news.  They see headlines alright and make up their minds but don't actually follow the stories.  About 3 hours ago according to the press conference the 2 brothers had nothing to do with it.

I admit it was a bit early to say that and I'm sure they will be investigated more but lets pay attention more shall we.  An interview with the guys son even said that that he (the kidnapper) would have the basement, attic and garage locked while he was growing up so denying access to parts of the house seemed to be common place with this guy and that goes back to before he kidnapped these girls.

Then what's the point? If gods don't answer prayers, if they don't stop evil, if they don't punish the guilty, if believers don't live in perfect health until called to meet their maker, what's the farking point? If their "plan" is is so inscrutable and so independent of the needs and happiness of their creations, what good is it? If it isn't good or evil because those concepts are too basic for the gods, then again, what's the point?

Is faith just self-hypnosis that helps you deal with the bad shiat that is going to come your way regardless because nothing, not even your benevolent god, is going to stop it? Well, then I have other, ways to deal with it that don't involve massive buildings, hierarchies of priests, converting the heathens, legislating "morality", etc., etc., etc., ad nauseam.

I noticed a few people in the thread hoping the brothers (now apparently, just the one brother) get long sentences and get raped in prison. Sorry, but the guys who get raped in prison are young and/or pretty. NO ONE is going to rape these ugly, old bastards. Beat them to death, perhaps. But not rape them.

Maybe she will look to Dexter as a role model and target douchbags who kidnap girls and rape them in cellars.

I would help her.

bdub77: Neighbors said they called cops two years ago when they saw a naked woman crawling around Castro's back yard - but officers dismissed it as a prank.

And affirmative action and nepotism hiring.

That shiat pisses me off. Back in June of last year, when we were living in the truck, we were down Santa Ana way, hidden from the street parked behind some shops. Suddenly, very close from the other side of the concrete wall, we heard angry Spanish, three voices. Then: POW POW POW....POW POW.  Then quiet for about 3 or 4 seconds then POW..........POW.  It's been awhile since Vietnam, but I know a gunfight and a double tap coup de grace when I hear it.  I called SAPD and told the dispatcher exactly what I wrote above. She says, "Probably kids with firecrackers." I called her a stupid coont and ended the call. We left the area, so I don't know if SAPD ever showed up.

DROxINxTHExWIND: RatOmeter: TheDirtyNacho: DNA sequencing of these guys' genome should be done.  Amazing that 3 brothers seem to have the same sociopathic nature.  Perhaps one day we can spot these people before they're born...

Hope you're both joking.

Didn't she carry the kid with her when she escaped? And I saw pics at the side of her daughter in the hospital. Carring a child and giving birth is a usually huge deal to the mother. And the fact that the father was a rapist douchbag is not the kid's fault. The mom knows that; I would not be surprised if there was a huge bond of love between the two.

There are plenty of ignorant trolls on Fark, but I suspect you are simply stupid, not a troll. Did it EVER occur to you that there are millions of americans who like to take mind altering drugs just for sheets and giggles...... and when they do, they often see things that are not the least bit real?  Hhhmmmmm????? How long have you been on Fark? Have you never heard of some drugged-up guy running down some street ripping his clothes off because he thinks he is on fire?

So, please pretend to have a brain for a few seconds...... police respond to a call about naked women in a backyard..... maybe they respond in 10 mins if it is NOT a busy day, maybe they respond in 2 hrs if it is a busy day....... but there is no-one around when they do arrive. Perhaps it was just some drugged-up loser making up BS. Are you Honestly stupid enough to want police to break down the door of every house where some odd occurrence had been reported on recently??? Just. In. Case.

They DID investigate. But police can only respond to Actual Events That THEY witness....... if you drive to work tomorrow and are CONVINCED that the person in front of you is drunk and phone it in, they canNOT go to that person's house 3-5 days/weeks later to arrest them for drunk driving based solely on you jotting down their license plate number.

/puts up with ignorant rednecks at work all day; NOT particularly happy that they seem to have fark accounts as well.

Try going to a gun range some day. That which sounds like 'obvious gunshots' to you are NOT what you will hear at any gun range. You are basing your 'expertise' on Hollywood movies, which are Entertainment, NOT documentaries.

Just as a followup, on another article posted on Fark, the police gave their side of the story.

You can't blame them for the two calls that had nothing to do with naked women in the backyard.

They only received a fight in the street call and another, less severe, call to that area.  The police have proof...at least the proof they want to show us.

Until there's proof of anything else, we can only consider is circumstantial conspiracy theories.  Stories aren't proof.

Seriously, it's just annoying, boring and tiresome. I come to Fark to be entertained, and the equivalent of Terrance and Phillip fart jokes, repeated ad nauseam, do not qualify as entertainment in my book of favorite things. Only Beavis and Butthead morons always, without fail, go after the low hanging fruit (i.e.: easy targets).  "Huh huh huh he said the earth is only 6000 years old lol lol lol."

My wife and I go to atheist and freethinker meetups and most of the people at these events understand that the Creationists are a relatively small minority of the religious set. (I know this for a fact because when we were homeless and relying on food and money aid from various churches I talked with a lot of the people involved with helping the poor. Maybe 2% are Creationists. Most think evolution is one of God's tools. (And I believe that is the Catholic Church's official position.) Of course, this is Southern California. I'm sure there are states where the number is higher, possibly much higher.) At the meetups, criticism and ridicule of Christians is at a somewhat higher level (for example, discussion of the logical fallacies inherent in the various proofs of God's existence. You know, adult conversation.
