Meh...  Punk's been mainstream for long enough that this sort of gibberish shouldn't really piss anyone off.

People that think Blink 182 is a punk band.

Sound like Dan needs to pull his head out of whatever orifice he managed to cram it into before he does himself some damage..

Or starts taking himself seriously...

Or begins imagining that anything any celebrity says is worth repeating...

And now, the rebuttal.

Considering the majority of punk rock is made and consumed by middle-class white people and it's just a rebellious phase before graduating college, I think it's pretty punk of the celebs to stir up the working-class drones who care about "what is and isn't punk" like this. You know who doesn't care about the definition of punk? Mike Watt.

I will turn 50 years old this year.

I was into the bands people called 'punk' when I was a teenager. There really weren't that many of us, but that was fine; that was part of it, really. That would be over thirty years ago.

So get off my lawn.

I am at the disadvantage of growing up in a time where all the things called punk were stuff like Blink 182.  Which is a lot of fun, but not punk, apparently.  I've always enjoyed the Clash, but a lot of the supposed 'true punk' bands really just make terrible music.  I do enjoy Rancid however.

Is NOFX punk?  Bosstones?  Enlighten me, o terribly condescending internet curators of punk rock.

Punk used to be about violence and politics, all condensed into 1 minute of angry guitars.

And then there's the Meatmen...

Punk as a mindset will always exist as long as there are teenagers and also adults who don't feel like there's anything desirable about hanging out with a dessicated corpse like Anna Wintour.

Punk as a fashion aesthetic was a thing.  Billy Idol made a career out of it.  Both of those things are over.

This thing at the Met is a sideshow that looks dumb, but it's not marketed at you.  You're not the kind of person who listens to Coldplay.

But they're punk-influenced. Green Day.also has a punk-influence.  I like to say they're punk-influenced pop-rock.  That's still a far cry from punk or the hardcore punk-rocker Avril Lavigne (I keed, I keed).

Of course, they're not the classic punk rock that we remember like the Sex Pistols, Angry Samoans, D.R.I., 7 Seconds, Plasmatics, The Exploited, Ramones, The Accused, etc.  I haven't heard any modern punk (does it exist)...I'm still stuck in the early 80's when it comes to punk rock.

Nothing really sounds like the Ramones or anything, but when I listen to FIDLAR, Black Lips, or Wavves, I feel like I'm listening to punk rock even if I can hear a lot of other influences besides just bands from the 70s.

Yeah, they are punk influenced pop rock. I wasn't trying to dig at that, really. Plenty of halfway decent punk influenced pop music. Plenty of asstastic punk influenced pop music too, heh.

I'm more of an early 90s punk fan, nofx, descendents(much love for milo goes to college), rancid. I always classified DRI as more of a skate thrash, metallica forerunner than punk, but they were a little early for me.

The last punk song I really dug was Vintage Kicks -"Gimme Gimme" (No, not a Black Flag cover.) It had a 80's punk meets 90's post punk feel to it.

I'd say the best Misfits songs are:

Last Caress
Horror Business
Where Eagles Dare
Bullett
Skulls
Attitude

By the way, the only person on the red carpet with a look that could be considered "punk-influenced" was Madonna.

/and when Madonna's "most punk", it ain't all that punk.
