Tommy Moo: Naming the console Wii U was a huge mistake. It gives the impression that it's just an upgrade for the Wii, instead of a legitimate entry in the next console generation. It shines a spotlight on the fact that the processor is underpowered compared to the PS4 and Durango/720. The phonetics of it is also just incredibly horrid. You can't say "Wii U" without torturing the front of your mouth and sounding embarrassing and silly.
Katie98_KT: that article sucked.
ThreadSinger: A another version of Super Mario 3? New levels, same basic premise? I'd jump on that in a heartbeat
ThreadSinger: I dunno, I'd love to play an HD version of Mario-Kart Wii, or a brand new Super Mario RPG. Heck, I'd pay to play a HD, upgraded version of Chrono Trigger or Super Metroid (not a sequel, just a remake, top-down/platform style).
ThreadSinger: A another version of Super Mario 3? New levels, same basic premise? I'd jump on that in a heartbeat. Instead, we get Mario Party after Party. Tighten up those graphics, release a few classics-made-modern, and you've got some promise, Nintendo. You won't beat my PC gaming (Mario is not Mass Effect), but sometimes I want to play something simpler, something else, something nostalgic.
poot_rootbeer: I can't argue that Nintendo hasn't made some serious missteps recently, but Adrian Covert is only the last in a long line of "experts" who have convinced themselves they know what Nintendo's problem is -- and are usually proven woefully wrong -- going back 20 or more years.Right now I'm not convinced either Sony or Microsoft will still be interested in video games anymore by 2020. Unless Nintendo manages to go bankrupt before then -- and even though their products are underperforming right now, I don't see that as very likely -- they still will be.
bbfreak: charging the thing is stupidly done.
ignacio: He's kind of right. Nintendo doesn't really court older gamers. It wants to be the thing kids and teens beg their parents to buy them. That means it doesn't need to play DVDs or house an entire home entertainment system, because the parents normally already have one of those. And because it doesn't, it can cost only $200-250 while the PS3 cost around $400 when it was released. And that's absolutely worked for them. They have a monopoly on that corner of the market, and it's making them money.

jbull217: Oh, they're still making new video game consoles? That's cool... I'll just be sitting over here playing the greatest system that will ever be made.
Iczer: You've, uh, not really been paying attention to the Wii/Wii U lineup have you...?

Mister Keeper: Selling 3.45 million when your target is 4 million is "badly missing"? I agree it's not good, but selling 86% of your target doesn't seem terrible, just poor.
poot_rootbeer: Iczer: You've, uh, not really been paying attention to the Wii/Wii U lineup have you...?To be fair, those are both versions of New Super Mario Bros. (DS), which neither looks nor feels like Super Mario Bros. 3.There also isn't the same kind of reinvention between installments that used to happen in the series. Super Mario 1 to 2 to 3 to World was an order of magnitude improvement each time.New DS to Wii to U has done what, added new levels and a couple novelty powerups? It's like going from Super Mario 1 to Lost Levels.

GavinTheAlmighty: If someone were to claim that NSMBU neither looks nor feels desperately like SMB3, I would urge them to play both again, because it's very obvious that it's been a while since they'd played at least one of them.
