Also in the poll; average Americans have little idea how the judicial system works.

I would trust Scalia over Judge Judy.

I don't trust Scalia to create sane case law.

/Unless the people could say who Scalia et al. are without prompting their opinions are meaningless anyways.

President Comacho said Secretary Not Sure said to use water, like from the toilet!

I have never believed that Judge Judy was putting corporate interests ahead of what's right. I can not say the same of all of the Supreme Court justices.

WTF Indeed: Also in the poll; average Americans politicians have little idea how the judicial system works.

I'm a B2B salesman and I meet a lot of people most days of the week.  While I do run in to some people that may not be the most informed individuals out there, the majority of people I meet are not retarded.  Or at least they don't act that way when I meet them.  I'm building a conspiracy theory that all this "poll shows that Americans are farking stupid" malarkey is a ploy by Them to convince people that they're dumber than they actually are and that it's the status-quo to be ignorant of civil functions.

2013-05-08 08:58:29 AM
Wait, does this mean someone who holds the nation's legal maturation in his hands is more likely to do something to annoy people than an arbitrator whose most significant issue is two roommates arguing over who scratched up the Dawson's Creek box set?

The real sign of the apolcalypse is that they have good reason to trust Judge Judy more than the Supreme Court.

I have frequently peed on the legs of Supreme Court justices, and they believed me when I told them it was raining.

You do B2B. If you worked retail, or any job like say mailman where you had to deal with EVERYONE, you'd change your mind.

How can anyone trust any of them.  They sell our liberties to the highest bidder.

How many Americans trust the Supremes over the Supreme Court?

I'd like to say NO.  I'd really like to say it.  But there is THIS:

unlikely: I have never believed that Judge Judy was putting corporate interests ahead of what's right. I can not say the same of all of the Supreme Court justices.

The SCOTUS is made up of PEOPLE.  Just like you and me.  And all people are capable of DERP.  The SCOTUS has proven without a doubt that they are NOT exempt from this fact.

2013-05-08 09:12:57 AM
While Judy is great at weeding out the BS, I've never seen her address a constitutional issue...

2013-05-08 09:19:25 AM
Judge Judy hates poor people.  She would be waaay more conservative on the SC than a Scalia or a Roberts.

2013-05-08 09:22:48 AM
I'm not American but you can add my name to the list as well.

2013-05-08 09:26:11 AM
Why would anyone trust a judge? ANY judge?

2013-05-08 09:32:30 AM
Let's see. Histronic biatchy old people like other histronic biatchy old people.

Got it.

I'll write it down.

Judge Judy makes like $8M/year.  She IS a corporate interest.

It's a Readers Digest poll; they polled your grandparents

Has anyone seen the 20/20 report on Judge Judith Sheindlin before she was "Judge Judy"?  She was a hellraiser and, during the interview, passionately called out flaws in the Manhattan Family Court System.  Yeah, she went reality, but if she was running for office, she'd get my vote.

But not near as scary as those who think gun violence has gone up ove last 20 years, actually down 39%

RobotSpider: Judge Judy makes like $8M/year.  She IS a corporate interest.

Actually, per celebritynetworth.com, she makes $45M/year.

I think that even if he more than scratched the surface of his B2B customers he'd find plenty of derp. I've met plenty of otherwise intelligent educated adults who buy into the wierdest conspiracy theories. One of the scariest was a dentist (graduated from a respected west coast university) who somehow steered the conversation around to FEMA death camps. He was so serious that my ex-wife pulled me aside and asked if we could please leave the social gathering we were at.

It's may be true that there are fewer well educated derpers but there are still plenty of them.

Sure everyone's got a little crazy in them.  And I have worked food service so it's not like I haven't met the full spectrum of people out there.  What I'm saying is that Americans, on average, aren't as stupid as they are made out to be in the media.  News is consumed by normal people and are most interested in abnormal people so those are the stories that get told.  What is generally true is that most people are selfish and solipsistic and will tend not to explore the world unless they are prodded to do so.    The point I'm making is that I've never seen a poll that I thought was an accurate representation of the populace that I have encountered.

Since there would be no way to prove or test your assertion and it nicely allows one to blame "others', I'd say you have a winner.;)

There is something, however, about the American air, water, or...something, that introduces much more "derp" than I've seen in almost any other developed country.

There is some sense of pride of being contra-academic. To reject what those who have studied issues for decades have concluded. To be ignorant of basic knowledge and concepts - perhaps even basic mathematics - and not care.

That's why we have TV series like "Law & Order" and "CSI" to educate them.

The average TV watching American sees Judge Judy slap down douche bags, and sees the Supreme Court pass things like Citizen's United.  Is this poll result really that surprising?

You think "The average TV watching American " has a clue what citizens united is?  Hell, I'd bet most don't have an opinion based on facts about any ruling they have ever made.

But you are right, it's a stupid poll.  "Do you trust Gordon Ramsey to make your dinner or this unknown body of people who are also chefs."

Based on the last two supreme court appointees, I'd trust personal injury lawyers more than the supreme court.

Well, she does allow her cases to be recorded, discussed and decided in full view of the public. Maybe if they started doing that with the rest of the courts, things would change.

Judge Judy is being sued in a case of divorce fraud.

I watch JJ's show regularly.   It's like a collection of Aesop's fables, bite-sized morality plays.  It's fun to try to figure out who's lying the most, too.

Judge Marilyn Milian is more compassionate, and much hotter.  Watch her dance in a Mom-miniskirt.

Joe Brown is a racist caricature.
