Good luck with that.

Just a couple of days ago the Bull's coach said that he wouldn't be back for the playoffs.

I hate the ESPN cycle.  Like Tebow.  Relentlessly publicize an athlete, then have your color commentators biatch about how Tebow is always relentlessly public with things.  Then have stories about how people are sick of all the Tebow publicity.

Now we are easing into - Are people tired of the Derrick Rose story?  Why is Derrick Rose always showing up on tv?  Why can't he just keep his mouth shut and stay on the bench?  Is the backlash against Rose growing?  Is Rose overexposed?

LucklessWonder: So he's only going to play in 3 games this postseason?

Heh.  Bulls fan, and I thought "that sounds about right."

2013-05-08 08:46:05 AM
The only reason to put him in tonight rather than Game 3 would be to get him some game experience this year. Otherwise, they've already picked up a win in Miami to earn themselves home-court advantage, Deng and Hinrich probably get back in Game 3 as well, so they have a much deeper team and bench and there's no pressure on Rose to start or play huge minutes.

That said, getting up to game speed is a HUGE deal. We saw how crappy the Heat looked in the first quarter after just a week off. Rose has been out a year.

2013-05-08 08:46:36 AM
Time to roll out the Derrick Rose is coming back story. Hopes he doesn't. This isn't his team. It would be like rollling Jamir Nelson out in the Finals.

Even if Derrick had come back as soon as he was cleared, and was in prime game shape right now, I still don't think they take 4 from the Heat.

Thibs is the best coach in the league, but he's not a miracle worker.  The Bulls don't have enough top superstar talent.

He was cleared to play like 2 months ago, right? I'd bet a hundred bucks that he doesn't play Friday. This guy seems to have some deep confidence issues or something else going on. I wonder if his career is actually done and we don't know it.

Well, if he comes back now, then the Bulls lose, he gets blamed for it and everyone says "should he have come back? It seemed to disrupt the team's chemistry and cost them the series." If he comes back and they win, well, sh*t, they've already won without him so far. He is in a lose-lose situation.

People now SAY that they figure the Bulls are still going to lose this series, but what people say prior to something happening has nothing to do with how they will treat an event after the fact.

Well I am resigned to Rose not coming back this season and don't see them beating the Heat regardless, but all media BS aside the basketball kid in my just said

I also figured that IF he returns this series, he'd want to do it at home instead of at a hostile arena.

Well, it is Miami, so "hostile" is a bit of an overstatement.

"Derrick Rose" -- 11 letters.  "Barack Obama" -- 11 letters.  Derrick Rose plays for the Chicago Bulls, Obama got his political start in Chicago.

FURTHERMORE, If you translate "DERRICK ROSE" into numbers, where A=1, B=2, C=3, etc, you get D=4, E=5, R=18, R=18, I=9, C=3, K=11, R=18, O=15, S=19, E=5; total is 125.  125 = 5^3.  The game takes place on the FIFTH day of the week (Sunday does not count because it is a day of rest), and is the THIRD game of the series.  COINCIDENCE?!?!?!

Plus, just check Revelations 5:3: "And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon."  It's pretty clear what that means.  IF Derrick Rose is allowed to step onto the court tonight, Obama will finally take his throne as the Anti-Christ, and Rose will be his herald, and the takeover of the world government will be financed through Obama's secret bank account at Fifth Third Bank.

I think they'd have as good a shot as anyone (except a healthy OKC team).  It could happen.

I'd rather they didn't bring back Rose, honestly.  The team's playing well now, and there's no way he goes from being out a year to playing at this level, even as good as he is.  Let him start fresh next year.

See if you can spot the difference:

"I think that if a doctor clears you to play, that gives you a lot of confidence going out there knowing that you can play and take a hit, so I'm not concerned," said Crosby, who will wear a protective plastic shield attached to his helmet to try to limit contact with his jaw area.

vs

His brother and manager Reggie Rose ripped the Bulls for standing pat at the trade deadline in an interview with ESPNChicago.com, saying it could be a "big factor" in whether Derrick plays this season. Then, the website reported two weeks ago that Derrick Rose had been medically cleared to play but told the team he won't until he can dunk with confidence off his left foot. All that fueled the idea that the team and its star were not on the same page, although Rose has said there is no rift.

"It could be tomorrow and I feel like I can play the next game," Rose said as the Bulls practiced before Thursday night's game against Portland. "Nobody knows but God."

God's not telling, Derek, but the doctors are. So get your ass out there.

If the Bulls win tonight, I believe there is a good chance Rose comes back for Game 3.

Who would want to come back and play for a team that is close to being eliminated?? It might not look good if he came back when the series is tied 1-1 (or down 2-1 if they lose the next two) and he was not able to turn the series around.

After about 5 minutes of that, it will turn into what a warrior and fighter he is, selflessly coming back to try to help the team, but he was just not healthy enough to do it. But man, what heart he had!!

As much as I would LOVE to watch Rose play as soon as possible, I'm ok with letting this team decide their fate on their own. They made it here without him, let's see what they can do. Especially (as extraordinarily unlikely this is) if they happen to win tonight.

I had a friend say last week that if Rose doesn't come back this year, Bulls should try to trade him. I just laughed in his face. I think people are getting too crazy about this whole situation. Fans are getting ridiculous with all the "this will forever ruin his reputation in Chicago" nonsense. Yes, it's frustrating that Rose hasn't played all year, even after being cleared by the doctors, being able to dunk, etc. It's frustrating we're not hearing any reasons why other than vague "I'm not ready, God only knows" statements. But in the end, it's just 1 season. He has a long career ahead of him. It's not like this Bulls team has been together forever and this is their last chance to win anything. It's completely revamped from last year. At this point, I'm totally fine with him starting fresh next year, and it really will not affect how I feel about him as a player or a person.

Exactly. FFS, Jordan missed his second season with a foot injury. There's still plenty of time. And again, the Bulls without him are a pretty good team.

Car_Ramrod: Yea, Noah and Rose sure seem to have a horrible relationship. You're spot on.

That's not what I mean. Noah is coming out shining in all this willing to fight anyone who so much as insinuates Rose is weak - you know - like a good teammate and leader should do. He's shouldering the burden on and off the court for this team.

What the Rose situation has shown is that it is Noah's team now. Rose is an amazing player - best on the roster - and absolutely key to any future success. But, he's going to be playing on Noah's court next year, not the other way round.

That's *got* to chap Reggie and BJ's asses with their insistence that the other humps aren't good enough to be on the court with their golden goose. (And really the crying is more about his manager and agent oddly trying to drive a wedge b/n Rose and the team with that crap, and Rose dutifully dancing to their tune).

I don't think that's true. Coming back next year, Rose will absolutely be the center of this team. Noah has earned a lot of respect from Chicagoans this past year, but all eyes will be on Rose.

I honestly have not heard anything like this coming from Reggie or BJ. Do you have any cites for this? I find it unlikely they would be blasting the team, or that Rose would go along with that. Doesn't seem like that kind of guy.

So ESPN and Rose are involved in a conspiracy? Or is it ESPN and the Bulls? Hard to keep track of all the people/teams ESPN is in a conspiracy with. I bet David Stern is involed in some way, he's probably in a conspiracy with the refs to make sure Miami wins tonight for better ratings on Friday.

Or is it not a conspiracy and this was just a stupid headline?

They are being extra careful with him because they don't want another RG3 situation with him. The Bulls organization pretty much said in the beginning of the season that he would probably be able to play by playoff time but they are not going to play him this season.

Those are the Team Doctors. I would trust Shaq to make 6 crunch time free throws in a row before I would trust a team doctor.

There's going to be significant psychological hurdle after a significant injury, particularly for someone like Rose whose natural playing style is one with a high degree of reckless abandon to his own body.

So, the guy has nothing to "prove" to me by suiting up sooner rather than later, but that doesn't change the fact a swarm of highly functioning neanderthals with armchair PhDs (I'm talking elsewhere, not specifically here in this thread) "insisting" he plays because of emotional, BS reasons X, Y and Z I see all over the internet.

Yeah, his not coming back in late March/April pissed me off and I don't believe he should play (especially against a physical Heat team that will constantly be knocking him to the floor) in the playoffs. But to say that Nate Robinson is better for the Bulls than Derrick is just plain stupidity.

On the one hand, getting rid of him would be incredibly stupid and no, Nate Robinson isn't better for the Bulls as a franchise than Rose.

On the other hand, Robinson is better for the Bulls RIGHT NOW, so it's not stupid to say "Who needs D Rose? We have Nate Robinson" IF you're referring to this postseason and this postseason only. You don't need Rose to cape up for you - you just earned a road win in the second round of the playoffs - you have one of the eight best teams in basketball. You clearly don't have the NO chance that ignorant people pretend you do. Concentrate on what you have, not on what you don't have, because what you have is a pretty damn good team.

If his teammates don't mind him being out, why do you?

So Rose shouldn't play because he's scared and that's OK? Really? Refusing to play for months after Docs have cleared you is ridiculous. When has a team's superstar ever just refused to play because he's scared? Can you imagine the beating someone like Lebron a year ago would have taken if he pulled something like that? For some reason Rose gets a pass from a lot of people.
