It is The IT Crowd, not The It Crowd.

That being said, please let this one episode lead into a full season Graham

I don't know what it is, but I find these "nerd shows" absolutely grating. This one, Big Bang, and Codemonkeys.. I've tried them, and I just keep cringing. I thought I would love it, they reference and do a lot of the nerdy things I like, but the delivery is always so farking awkward.

Is that the one where Moss was in a wheelchair at a theatre and Jen's boyfriend definitely isn't gay? Best episode.

I don't think the IT crowd is a nerd show like the Big Bang theory, and I'm basing that on the fact that I agree with what you said, when in reference to the Big Bang theory, because that show is rubbish and not funny, but the IT crowd is great and funny.

The IT Crowd was epic.  I really wish they had done a fifth season, so anything that will give the series closure is a good thing.

To think when we met you were so worried that you came from Iran ...

Yes it was.
The show is a Where's Waldo of nerdeness.
They even have the XKCD map of the internet in the background of a few episodes.

I don't really have anything to add other than that The IT Crowd had one of the worst uses of laughtrack* in any show I've ever seen. It slowed the pacing down to a farking crawl.

*for those of you who will likely point out is was recorded live in front of an audience: no one gives a fark about that distinction. It's akin to listen to a Live album with way too much crowd noise and is a relic that has way outlived its usefulness.

Bzzt. Wrong.

Being recorded in front of an audience is a rather necessary distinction, since all of their timing is based around, you know, THE AUDIENCE SHUTTING UP. The pauses aren't "you should laugh here", they're "if we kept talking, the audience would be bleeding into the stage mics". This is why those "omg Big Bang Theory without the laugh track is painful!" videos on YouTube fail so very, very hard.

At the very least, editing out the pauses would be mandatory. Depending on what's going on, that could make the show seem all stuttery, in a Gilmore-Girls-banter-high-on-coke way.

I love when they set fire to the monitor and trick Denham into thinking it's a screen saver... And can't remember the number to reach emergency services. It's easy! 0118 999 881 999 119 725... 3

regardless, laughtracks/audience responses, etc. completely slow down the pacing of the show to an excruciatingly slow crawl; especially on the IT Crowd.

In my defense, I was brought up in the American south so my ear for English is hideously malformed.

Seriously, if you grow up thinking southern accents are normal.....just....ugh.

I've tried to watch TITC a few times, but I can never get more than a few minutes in before I have to hit Stop.  I think it's the use of cringe humor; it's the same reason I never found either Office or CYE funny.

Funnily enough, the 'southern dandy' accent is far closer to the accent used by English speakers in medieval times through to the 1700s.  A case could be made that it IS normal and the way we should all talk.

The association of the accent with being dumb is a modern invention.

Out of all the "nerd" shows, the IT Crowd is by far the most humorous and intelligent. The shiat they try to foist off here in the States is boring, cliched and just flat out horrible writing.

2013-05-08 09:00:47 AM
I have the clip where Jen has a virus ("If that was a person, I'd shoot in the face!") on near constant repeat in my head when I get called to help out friends and family with their computers.

The IT Crowd is one of the few "nerd" shows that was pretty damned accurate, as opposed to just stupid and insulting (sorry, I've yet to meet any nerds or geeks who are anything like the people in BBT).  Any time the IT Crowd made me "cringe" it was usually because I was thinking, "Ahhh, shiat, I've done that."  Or better, "WHY DIDN'T I DO THAT?"

The answering machine with "Have you tried turning it back off and on again?" would have been great early in my career when I was supporting Windows Desktops primarily.

And the scene where Jen has the Internet, while somewhat unbelievable (I would say no one is that dumb, but after working for far too many years, I don't believe that any longer), was piss in your pants funny, especially when Roy and Moss see their clever plan not coming to fruition.
