What's saddest about this is how much good will the Obama's have tossed away like so much rotten salad. Here, on this one issue, so many conservatives had actually stood up and risked serious political fallout to congratulate the first lady on her garden, to extol the virtues of self-sustenance, organic living, and healthy diets. Conservative groups around the nation had set aside their many differences with the president's agenda and were actively raising funds and promoting awareness, encouraging people in their communities, constituents, whomever they could reach, to take the plunge and on this one issue, this one noble endeavor, follow the White House's lead. The excitement, the eagerness, the anticipation...it was all such a palpable presence in the air. Like a smell, like...like...like corn on a summer day. And now, this. After all that progress, all that effort, the Obamas have chosen to slam shut the door on those who'd actually dared hope for this one bright spot of agreement. I am reminded of the classic comic strip Peanuts, of Charlie Brown's inspiring but yet so sad insistence on clinging to the hope that this time, this one time, Lucy would not yank away the football. And yet, she did.

I didn't realize that the garden was in the basement, locked in the bottom of a filing cabinet in a disused lavatory.

The claim is partially correct. The book may not have been "ghostwritten" per se, but it is true that the current book was vastly revised from what Michelle Obama first wrote so as to make it more appealing to the American public. The original draft of the book was titled "To Serve Whitey" - I believe it was a cookbook of sorts.

C'mon guys, lets be honest with eachother here.

Michelle's last job when Barry was senator was some BS $300k/year community outreach gig at a hospital...but now here she is doing the whole FLOTUS Stepford wives schtick, with the crocs and the gardening trowel and the basket of veggies, "just another American Mom".

I mean you guys are smart, you all see this hilarious kayfabe for what it is, right? You realize they're hucksters, but since they pretend to be Demicans or Republicrats, once in a while they may ACTUALLY do something in-line with why you voted for them, if only because the politicos have to maintain the rabble's suspension of disbelief.

And now you're all just goofing around, pretending to buy into this crap just to mess with me, right? Or it'll be like some dumb movie where the protagonist wakes up at the end, and realizes it was all a joke, and all of his friends and family didn't turn into pod people after all, and the whole time you been voting for GW or Barry O or Raygun Ronnie, just so you could get time off work on election day. And you guys will slug me in the arm a couple times, and say "Man, LWN, we sure fooled you!" And then we'll go to the bar and I'll have to buy everyone a round of beers cuz for a split second, I was silly enough to think you guys actually believe this stuff?

It's something like that, right? Right? C'mon guys, it isn't funny any more.

That's a lot of words to say "Yes, I really am stupid enough to believe that Michelle Obama isn't literate enough to write her own book"

This is the most pathetic attempt at lame trolling I've seen in weeks. It's like one of those lame comics who stands there going "Now that's funny, right, folks? Isn't it? Is this mike on? Hello? Have you heard the one about the left-footed duck and the blind...so anyway, Chicago...yeah, there's a town..."

Sad. Very sad.
