I voted for the "Taint" flavor.
Second place was "Formaldehyde".

Meh...Tims Cascade Chips blows them all away.

The Sriracha-flavored chips were beyond repugnant. I tried one bag, and tossed it about 1/3 the way through. And I pour sriracha over my breakfast cereal.

/didn't try the other marketed flavors.
//Lay's Roasted Garlic and Sea Salt chips are pretty tasty

Cornelius Dribble: I like how everyone is going along with the idea that this was a real contest.

It must have all started at a meeting when somebody said, "Okay, who's got a plan for how we can promote cheese and garlic potato chips?"

My thoughts exactly. I don't trust these company contests. Most of them have to be rigged at some level. Don't you think? If not at the top then someone lower down made one of their family members or buddies rich. I doubt most of these companies keep an eye on their temporary backend programmers or marketing firms.

ferretman: Jon iz teh kewl: SIRACHA

That was the worst by far.

This.

The chicken & waffle chips were alright, if only for the novelty (or while stoned), but I thought the cheesy garlic ones were the only flavor I really liked. I tried one of the sriracha ones just to see how it tasted on chips (since I hate the sauce), and subsequently drank about 3/4 of a pint of chocolate milk to get the flavor out of my mouth.

I am very disappointed in America for picking the boring one (as America usually does).... At least they didn't pick the disgusting sounding one (but I admit I never tried it)... HOWEVER, I am just sad they didn't pick Siracha.. Not happy.

I honestly don't care. As long as I can continue getting my Dill Pickle flavored.

ciberido: the money is in the banana stand: corq: Jon iz teh kewl: YOU BASTARDS WILL ALL PAY FOR NOT PICKING SIRACHA

THIS

Literally, everyone I know that has tried these chips (at least 20) has picked Sriracha. I don't recall anyone picking the Cheesy Garlic and everyone hated the Chicken and Waffles.

Well, now you do.

Yeah. EVERYONE I talked to hated Hated HATED the Chicken and Waffles - even me. Tasted like overly salty pecans and sugar. Had the Shiracha(sp?) and was sorely disappointed; didn't taste like the sauce and wasn't hot.

And around here the garlic and cheese - which everyone I've talked to who could find it - is the favorite.

Too bad Lay's screwed up the distribution.

Me too.

Plus I found lots of new chips from this thread so it's 'win-win' for me.

Your friend should know better than to feed into a viral marketing campaign like that. Lays was going to pick the flavor they wanted for their own reasons, regardless of what the 'vote' did or did not indicate.

ciberido: ShawnDoc: azmoviez: I call bullshiat on this one.  No one I know preferred that flavor and all the buzz was on Chicken and Waffles.

Yeah, for novelty factor.  I don't know anyone who actually ate one and wanted more.  They were disgusting.

I was at a D&D game and someone brought a bag of each flavor.  We had a kind of taste-test or study.  I ate more than one of the chicken and waffles.   They weren't BAD exactly, just --- odd.  But overall they were my lest favorite of the four flavors we had to experiment with.

Try the Utz Old Bay ones. If you want odd, those qualify.

But really, I'm a simple guy. Give me Salt and Vinegar, and I'm happy.

I had the same problem.  I don't believe it was a distribution screw up, but more of a intentional supply shortage.  Make equal amounts of the new flavors and see which one runs out and gets phone calls demanding more.  They can only make so much chips each day.

/I will admit to not having adventurous taste buds and therefore I wouldn't pick up chicken & waffles or sriracha

All three of those flavors were very "meh" to borderline terrible for me.  Not too surprised Cheesy Garlic won, but Chicken n Waffles is the stupidest f*ckin idea for chips.

Sriracha was a huge disappointment; going back to Herr's Hot Sauce flavor chips and Hot Fries instead.

Dwindle: Cerebral Knievel: Popcorn Johnny: pxlboy: Pringles

Now you've done it, here come 200 posts about how "Pringles aren't chips".

why would there be an argument? Pringles are made from dried potato meal and corn and mechanically formed while a potato chip is a.. well a chip.. made by slicing a potato razor then and frying it.
they are "crisps" not "chips"..

the only argument that I could ever see holding any kind of weight in this discussion is that what we in the US call chips, the folks in the UK call crisps..  while using the terms "chips" for what we call "fries"

/runs out of the room laughing maniacally

It is illegal to call Pringles "crisps" in the UK, but I can't find anyone who knows what the hell they are called.

As I understand there, was a simular legal argument in the US when Pringles came out and dominated the market for a short while, all the regular chip manufactures cam out and caused a stink about the definition of what a pringle was, and the legal definition for what they are was set in the US back in the 70's as well.  but lord if I could find anything to link to besides the UK ruling either..

but hell.. no.. they aint chips... US definition of "Crisps" fine.. but it aint a "chip"

with that.. I declare the argument over :)

They're not Old Bay flavored. They're "Crab Chips". Utz can't afford to license the Old Bay name.
I do wish they'd bring back the Jalapeno Doritos 3D chips. farking amazing. Spent many a night in college nomming those and PB&J sammiches and playing Mortal Kombat while stoned.

Ahh, to relive the glory days for a night...

jw1987: Chicken & Waffles chips tasted like bouillon cubes

There might be a reason for that- they probably were flavored with cheap bouillon, the type that doesn't involve actual chicken in any way. Along with 'maple' syrup powdered extract.

if your town has a "china town" there is going to be an asian market, and in that market there will be a whole isle dedicated to ramen.. in my town, that market is called Tan-A and the ramen aisle is 50 feet long, both sides, floor to ceiling, and is.... awesome...

spunkymunky: They're not Old Bay flavored. They're "Crab Chips". Utz can't afford to license the Old Bay name.

Whatever. It's Maryland crab seasoning. Old Bay and seasonings like it were traditional Chesapeake Bay crab seasonings before they started putting it into cans and shipping it across the US. Old Bay is just a genericized trademark. They didn't invent the seasoning.

Either way, it makes a strange potato chip.

Exactly! I had chicken in a bisquit crackers dipped in bad syrup.

The sriracha ones just tasted like vinegar.

I'm going to go with a great big "duh" on this.
Cheese bread, it was the only one of the normal flavors.  It was the one they were always going to make, the "voting" was irrelevant.

If, somehow, one of the others won they would just drop it "due to low sales", then make the cheese bread ones anyway. Probably with a huge "look what's back" advertising campaign.

I tried the Chicken & Waffles first,  I liked the idea.  The execution left something to be desired.  A store would have to be out of a lot of options for me to buy another bag.  The household did finish 'em off, but no one asked me to bring home another.

I found the Sriracha chips to be really disappointing.  I had high hopes: Doritos Tapatio chips are good and genuinely reminiscent of the eponymous sauce.  The Sriracha Lay's were just too subtle.

I couldn't buy the cheesy garlic bread one: the one that intrigued me the least.  That flavor was sold out every time I looked for it, after finishing the other two bags.  This is why I'm not surprised by this result.
