Uh, without knowing what the reasoning is for the contempt of court, this is a useless argument. A judge can and will throw you in jail for contempt of court for something as minor as talking out of turn repeatedly.

BOTH SIDES ARE BAD SO VOTE FOR SANFORD

2013-05-07 11:59:23 AM
People weren't upset that he had the affair (OK, some were)

People were upset that he abandoned his post and lied to his subordinates about where he would be and didn't leave any way to contact him in case the state was suffering an emergency in order to have the affair.

I really don't have a dog in this fight.  I left South Carolina years ago.

Contempt of court during a messy divorce?  I can't imagine why the media hasn't made that a front page story.  It must be a conspiracy.

It's a liberal media conspiracy.

OR maybe, just maybe, the Sanford campaign doesn't want to be talking about messy divorces for some reason?

Probably the first one.

The winner serves a 1.5 years of a 2 year term. Treating it like it's meaningless because they don't serve the full term is a little strange.

2013-05-07 12:11:01 PM
Eh, there's a lot of contemptible things that happen in courts.

2013-05-07 12:11:28 PM
Old contempt charges vs using public money to carry on an affair, lying about it, then grudgingly reimbursing the money.  Yeah, both sides are bad or something.

So, the examiner went from really crappy articles about entertainment to really crappy articles about politics?  Is this still about Drew's buddy getting clicks, but they realized they'd have better luck in the politics tab?

2013-05-07 12:14:22 PM
So... Events that took place during a minor court case a decade before the Internet took off are difficult to find using google. Who knew?

2013-05-07 12:15:09 PM
Mark Sanford was push polling about this, along with a few other scurrilous lies about his opponent.

I wouldn't give it too much credence until I see it in a legitimate news source. And honestly even then I wouldn't care.

2013-05-07 12:15:52 PM
Media more focused on the guy who used public funds to go to another country to have an affair while lying about it than contempt charges during divorce proceedings.

Hrm.

I assume this is all a false flag operation to get our guns.

If it is something minor/stupid, just admit it. If you run around trying to hide it, it makes it look way worse.

Also, gotta love the cognitive dissonance.
Headline: Media silent on arrest record of Democrat Elizabeth Colbert-Busch
TFA: On Sunday, the Independent Sentinel reported that Colbert-Busch spent time in jail on contempt-of-court charges during a messy divorce.

2013-05-07 12:20:07 PM

Lost Thought 00: The winner serves a 1.5 years of a 2 year term. Treating it like it's meaningless because they don't serve the full term is a little strange.

If Sanford wins, his losing primary campaign starts in late of November of this year, giving him 6 months of 'governance' before he's running again.

If Busch wins, she'll begin her losing reelection race in February of 2013, giving her roughly 8 months of 'governance' in which she will run as hard right has she possibly can if she really wants to attempt to keep the seat.

No matter who wins it doesn't change the legislative math in either direction, nor does it boost either side's platform.  If Busch wins it's because Sanford is a terrible candidate with a horrible past. If Sanford wins it's because the district is strongly Republican. Either way, in 2015 neither Busch or Sanford will be the Rep from SC01.

Any other importance placed on this race is just projection.

Last month, the media was pushing a story about how Sanford could be held in contempt of court for an alleged violation of a divorce court order.  Now we find out that the media-sponsered candidate was actually arrested and sent to jail for contempt of court.  That's ironic.

2013-05-07 12:23:45 PM
Did she use taxpayer money to abandon her elected office and fly to another country to have an affair while lying about it to both her staff and the public?

I do really enjoy that the so called fiscal conservatives in the republican party don't seem to think that stealing taxpayer money for personal use should disqualify one from public office.

Oh, I agree that the race is completely meaningless, as are most House races. It's just that the special election nature of this doesn't make it any more meaningless than it normally would be.

You forgot to mention that he also used taxpayer money to do it, denied that fact, then only repaid the money when someone called him out with the proof.

born_yesterday: So, the examiner went from really crappy articles about entertainment to really crappy articles about politics?  Is this still about Drew's buddy getting clicks, but they realized they'd have better luck in the politics tab?

If you check the front page of the Examiner you will see that they are "powered by 100,00+ independent contributors"

I had a friend who had an Examiner page(for videogames) and he only got paid a straight commission for pageviews.  That's it.  It's not a job, and you aren't employed by or write for The Examiner.  You write for yourself.

There is barely little oversight or control on the Examiner's part.  It is little more than a mass of bloggers playing at the news getting paid peanuts.  But it looks official and is dumbfark easy to do so it attracts the idiot tea partiers to it in droves now.

So when you see a link to the Examiner on the politics tab, just remember these magic words:

"Your blog sucks"

For a fun exercise, imagine what would happen if you took money from your boss and left the office for several days without telling anybody how to reach you.

I can't take anything seriously if it uses Breitbart as a citation.  I just assume it's bullshiat, most likely twisted just enough to resemble reality without really reflecting it.

Does anyone have any actual facts?  How many times did Colbert-Bush fly on the taxpayers dime to another continent to sleep with his girlfriend?  How many times did she lie about it on national TV?  How many times did she abandon her duties as governor in order to do these things?
