If you had skills like that, you could just get a job in the West.

So we'll chalk that down as the Reaper drone is really effective.

I think that would be a worthy goal for everyone, Muslim or not, to do. Seriously, do you really want some "insect" videoing you in bed with your girlfriend? It's gonna happen, and you know it.

Actually, I'm sort of in favor of drone technology --- if EVERYONE had it. Scenario: you're black and get stopped by a cop in Beverly Hills. The conversation goes something like this:

(Cop car bullhorn) "GET OUT OF THE CAR AND ASSUME THE POSITION!!!!"
"Yes, officer." (assumes position on car hood, hands & legs out).
"WAIT! What's that goddamned big insect doing circling around us?"
"That's my personal protection drone, officer. It's recording, sound and video, everything happening here."
"WELL TURN IT OFF!"
"Sorry officer, it's on automatic mode. And as you know I can't turn it off until I get home to the control panel."
(Grumbling) "OK, did you know that your tail light was out?"
"No officer, I didn't. I'll get it fixed right away."
"OK, have a good day"

Seriously, folks, that's what we need.

/Would also be useful for when I have an argument with my wife and she claims she never said I was an asshole.

ZeroCorpse: Would it not just be easier for them to buy a bunch of remote-control airplanes, strap IEDs to them, and just fly them around and smash them into the drones?

I mean, I'm no military genius but I came up with that in a couple seconds. I see the hobbyist RC planes around here all the time. Some of them are very tiny, and some are about half the size of the real thing. They fly easily enough. Some have cameras in them. I'm not even an RC hobbyist and I know all this.

So it would seem to me that a bunch of loonies who know how to make IEDs in their cellar would make the obvious leap of logic and use RC planes to deliver their payload  and  patrol their skies.

Not that I want to help these assholes, but I can't believe they haven't thought of this.

For that matter, I don't know why the military spends so much on the drones when they could do the same; Load up regular RC planes with a payload and have soldiers and pilots handle them from a remote location. I could cut the drone budget by millions, I'm sure, and get the same effect.

The terrorists would not believe that a 1/3 scale model of a Piper J3 Cub is going to kill them.

No.

Model jets wouldn't be able to fly fast enough, accurately enough, or high enough to even go near a drone. That would be like trying to take out a zeppelin from the ground with a lawn dart.

Seems like it would be a lot less work just to quit bombing everyone you meet and go about your lives, then the drones cease to be a problem.

FullMetalPanda: What if we were being lied to this whole time and the drones are actually being piloted by naval trained dolphins?  So even if they hacked the drones, nothing would happen because the dolphins are inside flying the drones?

Study it out!
