The parents should get together and have every kid go to school with a pencil and point them at the teachers while making the "pew pew pew" noises. Then they'd have to suspend the entire school. Repeat indefinitely until this idiocy is stopped.

If a parent showed up with a pencil and pointed it at the teacher, would the principal call the cops?

You know when I knew we were farked by this attitude?
Years ago, a Nikon Rebel camera ad. "Image is everything".
A cold chill ran thru me and it has come to pass.

These out of control Nannys are like a virus, I agree.
I disagree w/ TFA, they were raised this way.

I got stabbed with a pencil in high school when the crazy girl in homeroom disliked my take on the sexual proclivities of the Backstreet Boys.

Back in my day for a pencil to be considered a weapon a girl would have to stab another girl in the face with it over a boy. Saw that happen during lunch the next day we all got into trouble for watching it and going "wild" over it.

Obviously the kid should have got more time in suspension, if anything.

Guns shoot lead. Pencils have lead in the middle. Pencils are only two or 3 steps removed from being a gun. And what if that kid had thrown the pencil? The lead tipped pencil could have caused serious injury or even killed the other kid

/Yes, I know pencils are made with graphite, not lead. But that's not the issue here. What matters is that a 7 year old had a pretend gun, and wasn't afraid to use it.

Most pencil cores are made of graphite mixed with a clay binder, leaving grey or black marks that can be easily erased.

They better make sure to check that pencil to see if it has more than 7 pieces of graphite loaded in it. This is even more serious if this kid was carrying around a high capacity pencil.

I wonder how many 7 year olds wish they had pretend pencil guns NOW!

The only thing that stops a bad 7 year old with a pretend pencil gun is a good 7 year old with a pretend pencil gun.

Maybe a bit of graphite?  I have a blue/black spot on my hand where I accidentally stabbed myself in my hand with an automatic pencil and a bit of the graphite got embedded in my hand.  That was 20 years ago and I still have it (faded a bit, but still there).

"Kids don't think about 'Cowboys and Indians' anymore, they think about drive-by shootings and murders", thanks to the hand-wringing, pants-wetting stupidity of people like Bethanne Bradshaw. If we didn't obsess over being unable to protect kids from the unforeseeable, we could let them live normal lives.

My kid is only obsesed with skylanders, Legos and Adventure Time.  He has no idea what a drive by is.

30 years ago i was obsessed with Battle of the Planets and legos and Atari.  Things haven't changed that much.

Hasn't happened with my kid yet, but the day he gets suspended for some PC crap like this, I'm going to make a quick stop to stock up on ammo on the way to pick him up.  He can serve his suspension at the range learning to put holes in the x-ring.  Unless it's turkey or deer season, then we'll be getting some camo for him and off we go.

Nonsense like this are why I can't find my little guy a decent six shooter capgun and holster without spending a fortune.  My little girl is going to get one too when she's old enough.

When I was in middle school, a lot of us did this 'tardish thing where we would snap our fingers with a coin between them to fling them at each other (they'd really sting if you got good at it - I never did get the hang of it, but I went home with welts from more skilled marksmen on many occasions).

During one of these epic battles, one kid (a willing participant BTW, not just an innocent casualty) took a million-to-one shot to the eye, ended up with a scratched cornea that got infected; he fully recovered in the end, but his "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" PTA-mom wrote a scathing letter to the school board about how her son was "NEARLY BLINDED!" by their gross negligence in allowing children to roam the halls unchecked with change in their pockets (the kid actually brought in a copy of the letter to show us, it was surreal - I specifically remember the phrase "inherent destructive capabilities of ANY metallic object").  I didn't actually get to see their response, but I'm told they were not exactly receptive of her logic.

A paper airplane is a weapon when thrown at a tower of books in a threatening way and boom noises are made.
