And there was even a law against committing murder, but that didn't stop this guy -- why is this ineffective law even on the books?

When are we gonna get a Waffle House in New England?

They could make some big bucks.

because quite possibly murder isn't a right guaranteed by the document that your country was founded upon? the earliest written record of murder doesn't focus on the weapon- but the person, and the motive.

The NC general assembly agrees.

There's nothing in the article proving the shooting took place AT the Waffle House. So it's very possible that everyone, in accordance with store policy, left their guns in the car, and since we all know an armed society is a polite society, there naturally began an argument inside the weapon-free restaurant. Then it seems they took the argument outside and one of the debaters Stood His Ground in a way that God and the People of Florida intended. I don't actually see what the problem is.

There's nothing in the constitution explicitly outlawing murder. Therefore, murder is a right that is reserved by the people, as per the 10th amendment.

I've seen the weirdest sh*t ever through there.Your first line of defense is always your cellphone, but I'm damn happy to be armed through there. In fact, I'd feel even better if my car could do oil slicks, smoke, toss out tire spikes, etc. It's crazy through there.

Does the idea of going somewhere public, say the mall, where every single person had at least one if not multiple grenades on their person frighten you at least a little bit?  Because it should.  Nothing bad would happen though because freedom, right?

well, the police are often in public, and they sometimes carry grenades, or automatic weapons. we dont flip out over that, so why should i flip out over anyone else? besides, something bad happens: a grenade goes off. you're either dead or waiting for a large cash settlement. life sucks sometimes, and legislation won't change that. and if you're dead, well, what will you care?

The police are highly trained in use and safe operation of the equipment and weapons they carry.  Still, accidents happen.  Trusting Johnny Numbnuts with the same stuff with no safety knowledge or training doesn't really sound like a good idea to me.  And that's what's at the heart of the debate on background checks, training requirements, licensing and so forth.

the police in mentor-on-lake used 56 bullets to kill the suspect who was shooting at them. that doesnt sound like highly-trained to me, i'm sorry. but most police officers spend less time getting familiar with their weapons than I do. i'd take the bet that any carry permit holder in TN could outshoot most police officers at a firing range. hell, my sister who is only 13 could probably do it.

so dont give me this BS about "highly trained" because they're not. you want highly trained, talk to the military.

nobody's saying that if this guy had a gun, this would have been prevented. in fact, in the great gun debate, my position is that if you have a weapon yourself, you have a chance. if you're unarmed, you stand far less of a chance of coming out alive.

the only thing i can say is, be aware of your surroundings. this guy was on the freeway when he was shot; it doesnt sound like having a gun would have helped, here, in this once instance. but we dont know what might have happened if the shooter had missed, or the guy had noticed what was going on and stopped.
