LasersHurt: If you want to know how farked our politics are, you only need to look at this.

The disgraced shiathead has a very good chance of winning over a good candidate - because hey, at least he's the right party.

Not sure about the good candidate part, but ...

What's the point of having a thread for this race before exit poll numbers come out?

2013-05-07 10:44:42 AM

Great_Milenko: If Sanford wins, two things must happen.

1) Republicans are never allowed to make any sort of Bill Clinton sex joke or reference Monica Lewinsky ever again

Sorry, when David Vitter was welcomed back to the Senate to applause, then re-elected, GOP shame ceased to exist.  Sanford, craycray-pants as he is, was more contrite than Vitter.

Charleston is the old south, where expensive clothes and wayfarer sunglasses reign supreme.  I'll actually be there this coming weekend to attend graduation ceremonies at the CoC.  Not sure it's fair to lump in the linen suits with the rednecks despite them sharing a state and tending to vote for Republicans.

dickfreckle: Nabb1: I would have gone back to Charleston in a split second, though.  The low country of SC is God's country.  (In the figure of speech sense, not the evangelical, Bible-thumping, narrow-minded fundamentalist Southern Baptist sense.  Those folks are all over the upstate, not so much in and around Charleston.)

Charleston fascinates me for reasons you and I live in the same town in 2013. One is cooler than the other, but both are charm central.

They are both unique, that's for sure. Both are just brimming with rich history. Charleston is smaller, quieter, cleaner, and far safer.  More genteel, certainly.  New Orleans is, however, more vibrant.  It is also more volatile, but we take the good with the bad, I guess.

Great_Milenko: 2) Stem cell research must concentrate on human cloning, so Red Foxx can be cloned and go door to door in South Carolina and say "You big dummy" to each and every republican voter.

I would love to open my door, see Redd Foxx there, and have him call me a "Big Dummy."  That'd be amazing.  I'd tell that story for the rest of my life.  "It's like that time my doorbell rang.  I opened it and there was Redd Foxx.  I was like 'Can I help you?' And he was like 'You Big Dummy!'"  I don't live in South Carolina, though, so even if Sanford wins and Redd Foxx is cloned according to your plans, I am fresh out of luck.

Just the repubs, right? Because life would be rather boring if I had to erase the mental image of Blewinsky under the oval office desk.

GoodyearPimp: firefly212: For what he spent on government funded farking, he could have hired a couple more teachers so kids could have a better education.

Look, everyone makes mistakes.  Let those that haven't made one little ethics violation cast the first stone.  Seriously, this was his line of logic on Morning Joe today.  I can't believe one of the hosts didn't burst out laughing.

I don't think Joe "Honest Officer I have No Idea How that Murdered Woman got in my Locked Office" Scarborough is in any position to cast aspersions about ethics.

They've got you covered.  If you say, "Sanford and Clinton both had affairs," they'll say, "But Clinton did it in the Oval Office!" and if you say, "They both lied about it," they'll say, "Clinton did it under oath!"

I.e., they'll retreat into things that are technically true but do nothing to exonerate Sanford.  It's not tu-quoque, but tu-quoque-sed-magis.  If that's valid Latin.  Which I doubt.

Paul Baumer: Oh, and it turns out the former Mrs. Sanford has some really great stories about how he's an even bigger twatwaffle than previously thought -

http://wonkette.com/515382/jenny-sanfords-2010-book-suggests-mark-sa nf ord-maybe-a-bit-of-a-dick

"Another woman, it seemed, had come forward and suggested to a member of the press that she had also had relations with Mark, which meant he would likely have to address the accusation with an AP reporter who would be interviewing him later in the day. I was gut-punched all over again. Mark had sworn to me when I'd discovered his secret back in January that Belen was the only "other" woman. Now he explained that there had been nothing much at all with this new woman, nothing he had felt I needed to know about before. Ever businesslike, he wanted to know what I thought he should reveal in the interview. Here again he was asking for my advice instead of first considering how the news might make me feel. Here again he was only really admitting his indiscretions because the woman had come forward, forcing him to come clean."

What a tool.

Ewwww. I guess I'm glad my ex isn't a politician. It was bad enough to get all the revelations one at a time like that.  If he had been a politician though, I am sure he would have asked my advice for the same reason.

Ewwwwwwwww.

As someone who has spent the past year living in this district, I will be surprised if Sanford doesn't still win. There is way too much derp in that area.

My step-father, who is voting in this district, recently told me how Nixon is one of the greatest presidents ever. Watergate isn't really a big deal. The 'surreptitiously prolonging the Vietnam War to get elected' was the kind of thing they all do. He then proceeded to go on about how Clinton did even worse things by getting a bj in the Oval Office and lying about it under oath.

He's voting for Sanford.

From the people I've met in this district, there's a lot of like minded people.

CujoQuarrel: I am amazed that Sanford had any chance at all to begin with

That's what I'd think. It's one thing to use state funds to take a vacation. That's all too common to worry about. Getting caught having an affair while in office should be enough to curtail your political career, but not always. The worst part of what Sanford did was to be completely MIA while in office. If there was a state emergency, he had no way to be contacted, but was still in command since he didn't notify his subordinates.

That's just it: Clinton stayed at work, on the job.  Sanford ditched the country for some strange, on the taxpayers dime, and left the other idiots in Columbia in a lurch.

CujoQuarrel: I am amazed that Sanford had any chance at all to begin with

Think of what that says about the 15 other Republican schmucks that he crushed in the primary!

Actually, I think they still call them "darkies" in that part of South Carolina.  Just watched Colbert interview the LBG biographer re: Vol IV.  Johnson escalated funding for Vietnam at the expense of proposed domestic social programs.

/and nicknamed his "Johnson" as "Jumbo"

/Doo-dah; doo-dah
