I hope SC tells Sanford to take a hike.

2013-05-07 09:30:28 AM
he did encourage the people of South Carolina to vote, but not for any particular candidate.

2013-05-07 09:46:39 AM
I'm expecting him to win, but it's my district so I'll do my part and vote against him. I'm not proud to live in redneckistan.

Republican, SC, Christian(forgiven because he's a republican).  It will be close, but I don't see him losing.

Otherwise Just Fine: I'm expecting him to win, but it's my district so I'll do my part and vote against him. I'm not proud to live in redneckistan.

Why? She's ahead in the polls and has been running a great campaign so far.

It could be a situation like we had in New Orleans when Joseph Cao upset embattled Bill Jefferson in a run-off a few years ago (which, BTW, was pushed back because Hurricane Gustav hit the week of the primary and pushed it back to the general election in November.  Turnout for the run-off was miniscule, and even Jefferson admitted his supporters were probably too dumb to know there was another vote after the one in November).  Sanford may lose to Colbert-Bush, but she'll be keeping the seat warm for whatever Republican topples her on the next go around.  Cao - a Vietnamese American and a Republican - had no chance at re-election from the moment he pulled off the upset.

The most recent polls have it at a dead heat, and it's an R+10 district.  Advantage: spends-taxpayer-money-on-his-mistress-in-Argentina-and-debates-posters guy

If you want to know how farked our politics are, you only need to look at this.

The disgraced shiathead has a very good chance of winning over a good candidate - because hey, at least he's the right party.

As much as I'd love to see her pull off the victory, I have to agree. Being an unethical, misogynistic bastard pales in comparison to being a Democrat in this Congressional district.

We are a profoundly stupid district. Many, many teabaggers.

Side note: His campaign signs are poorly spray painted plywood with phrases like "Sanford Saves Tax $." There's one at the intersection where I turn into work that blocks your view of oncoming traffic. I want to firebomb that thing but that seems a little extreme.

I hope she wins. As an (actual) fiscal conservative, I think it stinks to high heaven that the TEA party and others are glorifying the guy who stole hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to spend on visiting his South American mistress as the "fiscal conservative" choice. For what he spent on government funded farking, he could have hired a couple more teachers so kids could have a better education. That doesn't demonstrate responsibility or conservatisim in any way.

It's a beautiful state.  It's just over-populated with nut-jobs in some areas.  There are plenty of nice folks, there, too, but they don't seem to be active in politics.

Either Sanford wins and is a giant oozing zit on the face of the  "values voters" party for a looong time, or the GOP loses a seat in an R+10 district to Stephen Colbert's sister.   I'm cool either way

Republicans these days never fail to disappoint me.  As soon as I think they can't get any crazier, BOOM, they elect Cruz.  I'm sure they'll sink to the occasion again and elect Sanford.

She has a run horrible campaign considering her opponent's main accomplishment is nailing a South American woman while in office. Whomever wins tonight they will only be in the office until the next election, where they will lose in a landslide of epic proportions.

SC Farkers, please, PLEASE don't let Mark unannounced-taxpayer-adultery-international-vacation Sanford get elected. I don't want to live in a country that'd reelect him.

I mean seriously, I'd petition for you guys' state to secede over this. I know you're doing the best you can, but please try!

2013-05-07 10:19:10 AM
Oh, and it turns out the former Mrs. Sanford has some really great stories about how he's an even bigger twatwaffle than previously thought -

http://wonkette.com/515382/jenny-sanfords-2010-book-suggests-mark-sa nf ord-maybe-a-bit-of-a-dick

"Another woman, it seemed, had come forward and suggested to a member of the press that she had also had relations with Mark, which meant he would likely have to address the accusation with an AP reporter who would be interviewing him later in the day. I was gut-punched all over again. Mark had sworn to me when I'd discovered his secret back in January that Belen was the only "other" woman. Now he explained that there had been nothing much at all with this new woman, nothing he had felt I needed to know about before. Ever businesslike, he wanted to know what I thought he should reveal in the interview. Here again he was asking for my advice instead of first considering how the news might make me feel. Here again he was only really admitting his indiscretions because the woman had come forward, forcing him to come clean."

What a tool.

2013-05-07 10:19:28 AM
My district, and I'm betting that Sanford will win, if only to prove that you need to do nothing good and can be a proven-unethical waster of taxpayer dollars and still be considered a "values" candidate that will "look out for the taxypayer."

He is hated and shunned by every SC pol that knows him.  Every veto he ever dropped as governor was quickly overturned... by his own party.  The GOP will have nothing to do with him.

Would it be unreasonable for us to "suffer" through a moderate Democrat for 19 months over this has-been?  No, because the people in this state legitimately believe that (R) is infallible and (D) means Siberian labor camps.

I know it is, and we've talked about this before. Some parts of SC are heaven on Earth. And then there is the rest of it.

I'm not from there, but my dad was routinely placed at the Sumter AFB. That's how I ended up being a Gamecock. I will never give up my years in Charleston, and even parts of Columbia.

But I will always view the state with suspicion.

Without a doubt.  My parents still live in the upstate, and I just could not bring myself to move back there after I finished law school.

I would have gone back to Charleston in a split second, though.  The low country of SC is God's country.  (In the figure of speech sense, not the evangelical, Bible-thumping, narrow-minded fundamentalist Southern Baptist sense.  Those folks are all over the upstate, not so much in and around Charleston.)

I'm calling it for Stanford. Mostly because South Carolina is full of water headed fundementalits who have been inbreeding since the "war of northern aggression" and instinctively vote republican because "dem Democrats are a bunch of negra lovers who support al-kayda and make bebe Jebus cry".

As a resident of the district, I can say that she's been playing it extremely safe because nearly any mention of Sanford's actual failings is construed as classless, opportunistic, negative, unfair, and horrible. In their debate, she burned him with using state funds to pay for his trip to Argentina in the context of fiscal conservatism and yet the next day the news was aflame with "How DARE that (D) biatch mention something Sanford already apologized for!"

He's a Republican, so he's forgiven. End of story. He can do anything, no matter how malicious or stupid, and he gets a free pass.

I don;t Mark Sanford really wants the job, either that or he's got some sort of side bet with someone that he can get elected just because he has an (R) after his name no mattr WHAT comes out of his mouth.

How else to explain the interview he gave the other day talking about his daily meditation practice and how he gotten so into Buddhist phillosophy his friends joke he's become a "Buddhist Christian"

I mean, c'mon, the whole ditch-your-wife-and-kids-for-the-hot-Argentinian-bimbo thing was bad enough,  but if he can pull this off in the beating heart fo the Bible Belt....

If Sanford wins, two things must happen.

1) Republicans are never allowed to make any sort of Bill Clinton sex joke or reference Monica Lewinsky ever again

2) Stem cell research must concentrate on human cloning, so Red Foxx can be cloned and go door to door in South Carolina and say "You big dummy" to each and every republican voter.
