Good, but not unexpected. I believe there's a law about selling high technology to terrorists.

"The axis today is not liberal and conservative, the axis is constructive-destructive, and you've cast your lot with the destructive people. Fox has become an incredibly destructive force in our society. You can be better, and this is going to be your legacy if you're not careful." Jobs said he thought Murdoch did not really like how far Fox had gone.

Well said.

In other news, ratings aren't the only determining factor for ad buyers.

Smart business being the average Ifanboy would be a liberal dink. No one who watches Fox News is going to be camping an Apple Store to get their Iphone 5 two days sooner than everyone else.

Regardless of his brilliance in technology, Jobs was a social retard.

Democrats and Republicans: Same stuff, different piles.

So vote Republican right? Right? RIGHT???

Cable news is killing this country. There is no reason we need 24 hour news channels when you have the Internet readily available. All cable news does is incite, divide, and misinform in their quest to either be the first to break a story or be the most provocative and controversial.

Those more prone to worship a man like a god, the way many view Jobs, tend to be leftists. Look at Mao, Stalin, Kennedy, Obama, FDR and the countless assholes in Hollywood and the music industry.

would do well to emulate today. A quick look at FoxNews.com shows the likes of Sprint, Nuance, Mercedes-Benz, Nstar and New Relic failing to take the same care with their corporate names.

I can't believe there is a really a large subset of people that would have a lesser opinion of a car because they advertise on Fox News. I suppose it makes some sense for a consumer electronics company,
It seems like it'd be really limiting, since I would think Fox News has a large base of viewers that watches little other TV (and thus don't see other iProduct ads). There is a small group of people that would think Apple's brand would be "tarnished" by advertising on Fox, who would really see a lot of ads on Fox, no?

It doesn't seem to be a healthy reason...

The product jobs was shipping is an intermediate between the non-tech aligned and the high tech world. It seems his target audience should have been the common folk who have money but not the interest in becoming big tech users.
The kinds of people who just want things to work and don't work tech jobs.

Instead he targeted hipsters, who just want something name brand and use lots of other tech. Its a strategy that made some money, but its left an opening that other tablets are beginning to capitalize on.

If we look back on this in a decade and gizmos like the kindle end up eating apples lunch, people are going to wonder it the cult of jobs was a healthy thing to develop rather than the product itself.

Believe it. If I understand the phenomenon correctly there's also a large subset of people who won't go see a movie starring a particular actor because of the way they vote.

Rush Limbaugh is a very avid and very loud Mac Supporter so the Fox News demographic was exposed to his products any way.

It is amazing how you can swap Fox News and with just about any news outlet. CNN, MSNBC, huffington, NPR.

That. I think the guy's was a pretty big douchebag, but he was smart, shrewd, and eloquent one. Credit where credit is due.

JohnHall: I can't believe there is a really a large subset of people that would have a lesser opinion of a car because they advertise on Fox News. I suppose it makes some sense for a consumer electronics company,

It's not a lesser opinion because they advertise on Fox News. It's that they have a higher opinion of Apple for forgoing some [easy] marketing targets for the sake of some ideal. Doesn't matter if it's accurate or not; it's the ability to make people go "well, they could have made money and they didn't, they must stand for something, right?" And when your brand is based on a "culture," making sure not to dilute that is important. It'd be like Lamborghini trying to get a pace car at a NASCAR race or a cross-promotion between Natty Ice and the Metropolitan Opera.

Speaking of NASCAR, Sprint goes pretty hard that demographic, so advertising on Fox News probably fits into their strategy nicely.

On the rare occasions I've viewed Fox News, all the ads seemed like they were for people who'd given up on life years ago and were now hanging on by a thread.

If you wanted to start a service that delivers sweat pants to people who are too lazy to leave the house, Fox News would be a good place to do it. Selling fancy new electronics? Not so much.

To be fair, didn't he die from a form of Pancreatic Cancer?  Sadly, you're counting the days if you get diagnosed with that.

I've been led to understand that if he had treated it when it was diagnosed he would have survived.  Instead he waited and died.

Link. He might have done some goofy diet stuff, but "he would have survived" is never the feeling I got from reading stuff. He could have maybe gotten a few more months, but that prognosis was a pretty damning one from the start.

According to his biography, the type of pancreatic cancer he had was a rare type that actually does have a relatively high survival rate if treated early.

In other developments, the stunning news has been revealed that Lancome Cosmetics executives saw to it that their product was never advertised in the pages of Road and Track magazine, and that Martha Stewart has never advertised any of her products on "Soul Train".

I don't think so.  From what I understand from news reports, there are generically two types of pancreatic cancer.  Patrick Swayze had the "you're doomed" one, which had also metastasized to other organs (i.e., very bad news).  Steve Jobs had the "people often live with it for years" flavor, islet-cell, but resisted western medicine for 9 months, later got a new liver (implying metastasis), and eventually succumbed also.
