No, this is Boxing on Ice. For hockey, you apparently have to watch the NCAA.

Because there are no fights in NCAA hockey.

Do you watch a lot of NCAA hockey? They fight they get tossed form the game and almost always miss another game after that.

Hey, how 'bout that, people that play a lot of hard, emotional games against each other get pissed off.  Just proves the emotion is real.  As opposed to football, where the teams are slappin' fives and laughing between plays.

Guys from the bench should have thrown their gloves on the ice just to add to the confusion.  "I have an extra glove here!  Is anyone still missing a glove?" Also, I'm petty sue than guy stole his post fight celebration from Mighty Ducks 2.

No kidding. It seems like the hockey fights I watch are pretty even because no one can literally get any leverage, but not in this case. The red jerseys just dominated.

My favourite comment on this was from our local radio sports station "ok Montreal if you are going to try to send a message by creating a lien brawl don't get your asses kicked in every fight."

You had a feeling this series would get nasty after game 1. It's not often someone loses gallons of blood while sprawled out on the ice, yet it's the OTHER team that has just as much of a reason to b*tch (I saw nothing illegal or dirty in Gryba'shiat, and it was a stupid suicide pass from Diaz in the first place)

cheezitmojo: I didn't have as much of a problem with this as I had with Subban deciding to be an MMA fighter against Turris 7 minutes later.

I'm of two minds on that. The fact that it happened bothered me and I think Subban should've been suspended a game for it. It was a blatant attack and utterly detestable.

The fact that the victim of the attack was Kyle Turris, who whined his way out of Phoenix because he didn't have Gretzky to pamper him anymore, didn't bother me at all.

Going to the game again tonight. I'm not a big fan of fighting in hockey but when a team is getting their arses kicked on the scoreboard and then start a fight and get them kicked again, I enjoy it as much as anyone else!

I agree with the comment above: Neil's face is punchable. He does invite opponents to do so but doesn't get a lot of takers. He's a tough little turd.

Go Sens Go

The fact that the refs don't try to break up a fight and that the fighters aren't ejected makes hockey a lesser sport.

You're tellin' me... At least I went to last Friday's game, which the Habs actually won. Might have to cherish that as the only high point they'll have in this series.

I don't know if it's just me, but I can't stand how TV coverage almost always takes farking 2 minutes* to switch to the camera covering a hockey fight.  I'm not sure if it's intentional  but it's bloody annoying.  It goes something like this: The camera following the puck/play pans across the ice, and just falling out of sight, 2 players start to tussle.  The crowd reacts and you know you're already missing the action.  The camera then follows some other player coasting along to the bench (the play has stopped).  Fark, even at this point, sometimes it will take another 5 seconds for the station coverage to start showing the fight, sometimes even showing something else irrelevant, like the bench or the ref, and by that point you've either missed half of it, or it's ended.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I have 2 theories why this happens.  1. The network wants to "milk" the fight with replays and keep people tuned in. or 2. The network wants to delay coverage to censor the fight if need be.

//*exaggerated
//the video posted does seem to be the exception in this case however

//off to get beer and watch tonights game.  Go Sens.

No, the network wants to switch to a close-up, but those big broadcast video cameras are still slow to turn and manual focus. They wait for the shot to come into focus and then they switch cameras. The camera switch has to be called by a guy sitting in a truck parked underneath the stands, who is trying to find the right camera on a bank of video. Other shots are planned, or follow a sequence they're used to following.

This all started going into the crapper when PeeKay started screaming AT HIS TEAMMATE.

With less than a minute to go in the game, post brawl, etc., the Sens' coach called a timeout.  The instructions were: "guys, lay off everything.  We got no bench left, and too many hurting already".

One player attended the ensuing face off.

After the game, Montreal coach: "Calling that timeout was the most classless thing I've ever seen".

The two handed slash that started the brawl: classy.  PeeKay's jump on Turris: classy.  But calling a timeout to settle things down: the most classless thing.

I sure would not want to be in tonight's officiating crew (and won't be).

I'm going to promise one thing right now: the officials for tonight's game will be told by the league to call it tighter than an early regular season game. They're not going to let things get out of hand this time. And all of them will probably be veterans with some sort of history of working games like that.

Agreed. Watch for a highly questionable early on, and a bunch of other bullshiat for about a period and a half, until everyone is all calmed down and Montreal has resigned themselves to the fact they aren't going to make the 2nd round.

Exactly. As fun as that game was on Sunday, it did cross a line. The line brawl was too much for the league, but not so much for the fans. Subban going full MMA on Turris was too much for just about everyone but the most bloodthirsty of fans.

Once a fight is started and they're already throwing punches (or about to) it's in the interest of the refs safety to let them duke it out until either one falls, or they settle down/tire out.  I for one, would not try and get between two people throwing haymakers because the odds of me getting an errant punch to the face is pretty damn high.

And some fighters are ejected with the 5 + 10 game misconduct, depends on the situation.  In this case, it looked like a bunch were ejected who weren't involved in the original fight that set this thing off.

I love hockey fights. so much better than big checks because the concussion issue is much more of a problem with the head hunting turtles out there.

when you see the stat sheet that has a ridiculous amount of PIMs, you know something great went down.
