TMrhrphr... Nope, can't count past one dick in the mouth.

Granted I don't watch the Tee Vee or ride limos, but do they have child locks on the back doors?

Well. that's one way to read it. A stupid way, but....

I've not seen anything about how a car fire killed 5 people so quickly. Nothing on why they weren't able to get out. I know fires and smoke can incapacitate a person quicker than we'd like to think, but still.

The stories I've read said the fire started in the trunk area and quickly engulfed the rear of the limo... where the only doors to the passenger sections were location.  The four women who survived climbed out the divider between driver and passenger sections.  The five women who died were found pressed up against the divider.

Sounds like an Italian dessert.

Maybe we can get some 9/11 Truthers in here to help figure this one out.

A SECOND LIMO HAS BEEN ENGULFED IN FLAMES!

The good news is that the invisible hand will step in to regulate the limousine business. The bad news is that it took four charred bodies to get there .

Limos are not for reach people but for HS students and middle-aged, drunk ladies going to a bachelorette party. Let this be a lesson to you.

Well given it was an older Town Car, I'm thinking repeated fatasses caused suspension failure (swaybar u-bracket? - did happen in rearend collisions in those cop car fires) which punctured the tank. Fuel meets exhaust, BBQ Time.  It's possible anyway.

I'm puzzled at how nurses... so, you know, moderately educated towards getting a thought across to another human being... couldn't seem to communicate more than to simply say "smoke".

"reach people", phonetic spelling FTW.

It's almost like a fast-spreading fire in a contained space you're unfamiliar with can be disorienting and leave you confused and overwhelmed....

I'm sure you'd have just busted out your hulk arms and smashed a heroic hole in the side to save everybody if you'd been there, though.

/ or maybe you could have smothered the fire in piss-soaked pants
// sorry, I'm a little testes today
/// testy... but the autocorrect was more amusing

"Brown said he immediately stopped the car. By then, the glass partition was down and the women were trying to crawl through it to safety. A San Mateo County coroner's official said the five victims were found near the partition, indicating they tried to escape that way before being overcome by smoke and flames. Brown estimated that two women made it out of the car that way. He said one of them opened the rear door to let her friends out and that's when the flames engulfed the rear"

For what reason was it not possible to open the doors from the inside?  And if the limo was intentionally made that way, why?

Yeah, but unless the limo the exploded, and maimed 190 people, no one is going to care.

I wonder if the shop that built the limo (not Ford obviously) mounted an extra battery in the trunk for the increased electrical demand.

One of the Bay Area news programs interviewed a different limo company, and the other company said they often turn on the child safety locks so the drunks don't fall out.  Not those exact words, but that was the message.

The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves: I wonder if the shop that built the limo (not Ford obviously) mounted an extra battery in the trunk for the increased electrical demand.

That is my unsubstantiated theory.  Battery failure triggered the fire.  Doors were autolocked as a safety measure while moving (drunk people do stupid things) so by the time the driver figured out something was wrong by the passenger statements and the car stopped on the bridge, the smoke and heat drove the passengers toward the driver and the partition to escape and away from the doors.  They were overcome by the smoke and when the rear doors were finally opened, the rush of oxygen caused the car to flashover killing anyone left inside.

Hmm, and that could explain why the doors wouldn't unlock.

If this was anything like the body I had to pull out of a car fire on my very last call as a EMT-Paramedic, I feel bad for everyone who had to deal with that. The smell (car fire + body) and the condition of the corpse still haunt my dreams almost 20 years later. I didn't quit that line of work because of it, that just happened to be my last scheduled shift before moving on to another line of work. It was, coupled with some other horrifying sights, enough to convince me to never go back, especially at the rate of pay most EMT-Paramedics get (fire service excepted-those guys do OK).
