But pink elephants are still okay, right? There seems to be one in every room.

Conservationists warned on Monday that Hong Kong may lose its rare Chinese white dolphins, also known as pink dolphins for their unique colour, unless it takes urgent action against pollution and other threats.

Goodbye, pink dolphins.

"We're 99 per cent certain the calf died from toxins in the mother's milk, accumulated from polluted seawater," said Hong Kong Dolphinwatch spokeswoman Janet Walker, who added it was the third such incident reported in April alone.

And not because they are born underwater where there is no air to breathe. That would never happen.

Interesting fact: every dolphin that has ever been born has died because of this very issue.  Talk about a design flaw!

The same reason we call people with orange hair "red heads".

People should really stop flogging them.

Would be a damned shame. Saw a mother and calf myself from my parents' boat a few decades ago, bizarrely in about the most polluted place in Hong Kong, Hebe Haven. Swam alongside our boat for a little while, and we guided them back out into deep water, then they swam off.

If your nickname is accurate and this is a fair representation of your reasoning abilities, it would explain an awful lot about the United States of America.

QFT.  They've basically destroyed every other piece of the environment, why would the Chinese stop now?

Damn, being a conservationist in China has to be one of the most frustrating jobs in the world.
Those dolphins don't have a chance. :-/

Aww, but pink dolphins are the tastiest dolphins. I really hate dolphin free tuna, it just does not taste as good as what I remember from my childhood. When men were men and everything in the sea was food.

I grew up on lantau island and took the boat every day to school. Saw them once!
Pollution has beeen getting worst before 97, and the coastal development is insane. A disney land was placed right infront of the Bay where I lived and shoots fireworks every single night. I'm sure the dolphins find "It's a small world after all" more frightening than whatever the airport can spew.

Since about 8years ago, a BLUE SKY IS AS RARE AS A BLUE MOON! That's a better benchmark than those pink dolphins.

It's China, so the dolphins are probably also endangered by the fact that they're considered delicious and their pineal glands cure impotence/balding/athlete's foot.
